  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

3.3T Genesis G70 Oil and Filter change (how-to)

Looking to make your Genesis unique? Look no further than KDM Warehouse - where orders are shipped immediately!
Ha, they probably take your Mobile 1 Full Synth and then fill the car with their stuff...
That's a nasty thing to say. Why would the owner of a shop I've dealing with for nearly 20 yrs steal my oil? He has no reason to do that, and nothing to gain. You have a very cynical, counterproductive and downright mean view of things. Maybe YOUR dealer does that to YOU, but I don't do business with car dealers' repair / service departments.....

And if you still do, maybe you should think about quitting - especially if you think they're ripping you off.....

Whoa Nelly... it was a joke!

Statement retracted!!!

I can see why you would take it that way. From my POV, I just read it as a friendly rib jab about good ol' "caveat emptor".

Granted, mine is one of ZERO trust of any oil change place, dealer or otherwise. Unless I myself open the bottle and I myself pour that bottle into my car, I don't assume anything. So take it for what it's worth.

Now then, if I have to furnish my own materials to a dealership, that means I already have a trust issue with the competency of that dealership to select & utilize proper parts & materials. Concern about what oil they might use is one thing, but one would imagine a Genesis dealer service dept would get their oil filter from their own parts counter right next to them. If I have concerns about them not using genuine OEM filters... well, then there are some some very fundamental trust issues involved. Why would I even trust any service work they perform?

Honestly, if you cannot or don't want to DIY (understandable), you'd be better off taking the Mobil 1 and WIX filter down to your local Jiffy Lube. They let you stay right in your own car, so you get to watch them pour your oil and install your filter into your engine.

As Ronald Reagan famously said about the Russians... Trust, but VERIFY.

I can understand your point of view and your "trust issues" with these places - especially the dealers. Mine isn't a stand-alone dedicated Genesis dealership, it's a glorified Hyundai dealership with one of only two Genesis add-on franchises in the Pgh area. My car is treated like any Hyundai Elantra or whatever. I hate the place - they're overpriced and very lackadaisical about what they do in that service department, and the guys ("Service Advisors") at the service counter treat people like shit. The ONLY reason I went to them for oil changes (or ANY service) was the 3 years of free oil changes and PA state inspections included when buying my G70, with the pick-up of my car - which was a BIG feature, becuz they're about 18 miles away in the North Hills, I live way down here in the East End of the City of Pittsburgh, and free loaner for the day, then return of my vehicle to me at the end of the day. Sometimes they'd even wash it, but that was rare. My feeling is that, if you spent the $$ to buy a Genesis, EVERY TIME it went to the dealer for service, you should get it back freshly-washed....

Now that those 3 yrs are over, I'm going back to Brad at Lifetime Auto, my trusted shop owner in the neighborhood next door about 2.5 miles from me. I've dealt with him thru 4 vehicles over the past almost-20 yrs, and I KNOW that if I furnish him my own very pricey Mobil 1 synthetic oil and WIX OEM filter, his guys are going to put those parts in my car, and do a nice neat job of it.

One last thing. Speaking of parts departments, after 3 years I finally put new wipers on my car a couple months ago because the passenger side was starting to leaves streaks. I bought the OEM parts from from a dealer in CA thru eBay, paid approx $45 for both L&R wipers (including free shipping). The aforementioned local dealer up north wanted more than that (48 bucks) for JUST the driver's side wiper, then another $26 for the passenger side. So their price was $74 (plus the 18-mile drive each way to and from the place) for 2 wipers I got - delivered to my front door - for about 45 bucks.... I would NEVER buy parts from a local dealer. I can get the WIX oil filters thru eBay too or the local O'Reilly's a couple miles away for about $12.50 each, but then I found out (I think it was a post here on the Forum) I could get 3 of 'em from Rock Auto for about $7 apiece + $8 shipping (total 29 bucks, net cost $9.66 ea), so that's where I get them. Made in Korea, same filter Genesis uses at the factory.

It's crazy the parts you can get (at GREAT prices) from dealers selling on eBay - I figure that the dealer in CA had the best price on the wipers because they're on the left coast, closest to Korea and pay FAR LESS shipping costs than east coast dealers.....

Not sure what the problem was. This discussion did stay on topic, as folks offered differing opinions - and their perceived pros & cons - on how they go about getting their oil and filter changed.

We might not agree on everything, and there is nothing wrong with a heated debate. Consensus is not a requirement for forum participation; willingness to listen is.

"STFU" is the very antithesis of willingness to listen.

I'm not offended by it - a little bugged about it, confused I guess, but I take opinions like those "with a grain of salt" as they say... I think what they're referring to is ME introducing the subject of other parts (wiper blades) to the discussion that they feel should ONLY be about oil changes and filters. Or maybe it was the thing about dealers and our opinions of them, who knows. But I don't think either of those is TOO far "off topic" for a (very friendly, actually) discussion about oil changes and the types/costs of oil filters used.

And yer right, consensus isn't always a requirement - differences of opinion are what make the world go 'round, and allow those with their minds open enough to recognize other points of view and see that maybe, just maybe, those views may be valid....!

Beefer, if still he who is using his name and login, was one of the first G70 owners in the US, October 2018. He was here for the tenure of his ownership and his comments were occasionally useful but often failed to move the discussion forward and sometimes downright intolerant. When faced with replies that challenged his statements he used rudeness. He sold and bought another brand and many here were gratified.
I say ignore.
edit: lease expired, not sold for beefer

Sounds like some crusty curmudgeons I've dealt with in other forums. The sad fact is that these folks quite often sour the forum and drive away others who could have much to contribute.

I've been gone awhile and thought I'd drop by to see how things are going but it seems nothing has changed with Beefer. At least he's staying true to himself.

Haha, you're right.
Good to hear from you. Still driving a G70?

Nope, sold it 2 years ago. I must have been one of the few who just couldn't get comfortable with the seats. It sucks because I really enjoyed it besides the seats.

Haha, that's right, I remember now. That's one of my only complaints with the car as well. We're in the minority who find the seats really uncomfortable. I had to buy a cushion to make trips longer than an hour tolerable. I still choose my wife's car for really long drives. It is too bad, since the rest of the car is great (once you replace those crappy brake pads, haha).
What did you buy?

Had planned to get into a used 992 or GTR but plans changed and now I'm just driving my Acura TL which I had bought new in 2006. 😀

Good price. What year is your G70?
