Test drove the G70 today! Went to visit Genesis of Vancouver (Washington) to check out their new inventory. They just received 2 G70's on new years day. Both AWD 2.0's, one in Mallorca Blue (Prestige) and the other in Victoria Black (Elite).
First thing we did was check the back seat space. The salesman let me test-fit my daughter's car seat in the back and things fit well with room to spare for how far back I put the driver's seat (I'm 5'11.5", I really don't put it far back at all, though). Even sitting in the back myself was nice, the seats are pretty deep; however, I can see how headroom can get a bit tight. I had to hunch my head a tiny bit forward to avoid having the top/back of my head bump into the roof - even so, it wasn't bad at all. Driver's seat felt perhaps a little bit tight, but not in a bad way. I was a bit concerned about the head room, though; but, I usually don't recline my seat back very far when driving. Also, the seat was able to lower quite a bit more than how I had it, so I wasn't too concerned.
The drive was impressive. The closest cars I've driven to this are the
Stinger, Volvo S60 Polestar, and the Giulia Ti Sport (all AWD). To me, the Prestige felt like something inbetween the
Stinger and the Giulia, being closer to the Giulia. For me, that is a huge compliment to Genesis. The Giulia is amazing to drive - and while the 2.0 G70 isn't quite as engaging, it is really close. The suspension feels very controlled, tight, and responsive. The steering, in sport mode, feels very quick and you do actually get a little bit of feedback from the road, though not quite up to the same level as the Giulia (which is abnormally incredible, btw).
Power was impressive, as if the numbers (ie 252hp and 260ft-lb) were a little bit underrated. While driving, we had 3 adults and one child, so the car even had a bit more weight during my test drive, but it easily scooted along. Transmission shifts felt very quick. That thing was fun. That said, I'm even more excited about the 3.3 now. Also, I really liked the HUD. It was nice to have something showing my speed and the posted speed limit right next to each other. Also lane keep assist was awesome, haha.
Exterior of the car looks strong. Very luxurious looking, and also unique. Mallorca blue looks really good, even my wife commented on how good it looked, and she hates every car color but dark grey. Hah. I like it. The chrome in the prestige trim looked better than I anticipated. It's a handsome car. I took a bunch of pictures around the car. I zoomed in on the clear sensor shield on the front grille, it almost looks as if you may be able to detach the clear plastic from the diamond grating. That said, it may be possible to paint the entirety of the chrome grating up front, even behind the shield. Still, it's tough to tell. I think I'd have to take off the entire front bumper to take a peek behind it to really figure it out. Anyway, doesn't matter, I was still really impressed with how everything looked.
I'm pretty well sold on this car. Honestly, I am leaning more towards the Sport trim now. I like those extra features over the Elite.
Here are the pics I took of it.
