  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis G70 Reviews

So are you looking to offload your S5 for the G70? If so...why?

Not offload, but switching over when my lease is up...in 2020 lol.

As to why? Not happy with the throttle response in regular auto D mode. I have the Sportback and it's an amazing car otherwise. I also personally don't have the need for a bigger trunk, so a sedan with a little better rear visibility, better throttle response and cheaper will work out much better for me in the long run.

Don't regret getting the S5 though. The rear differential torque vectoring with Quattro is amazing.

I love your car btw. I was about to buy it if the G70 took longer...I still might.

It's a solid car, but not perfect like any other car. Test drive it in D mode before you decide.

I have an Audi now (non-S A4). I have had 2 S4's in the past. I always drive in Sport...LOL. So not an issue for me. I might put it in non-Sport on highway drives.

Just love the way it looks like a mini-A7/S7...which I think is the sexiest car on the planet ;)

So if the G70 falls through...the S5 Sportback is my 2nd choice. But it is sooo much more $$ :(

It's a good looking car no doubt, but I like all my drive modes with no throttle hesitation or unpredictable lag and the B9 doesn't do that for me. And, yes it's pricey. Which is why I leased it and even that is expensive.

Note to self and others - Make a list of present and past dislikes in any car you have owned. Then just make sure you critically drive everything you are interested in vs. that list.

No car is perfect, but for years now, in multiple cars, I've noticed the slow throttle response issue. Could it be something to do with emissions or trying to get a better mileage number for advertising purposes? For those who ever test drove one, remember the Genesis Coupe V6, the throttle response/throttle tip in was over the top the other way. Ie; likely to chirp tires just getting going normally.

Here's a local (WI) review of the G70.

Savagegeese says a few things about the G70 in a ride w/ The Straight Pipe guys (review to come later).

3:49 mark.

Seems like Savagegeese is not particularly enthralled w/ the G70 as he has been w/ the G80 (and G90) - which is surprising as he is definitely more on the enthusiast side of things and he really liked the G80 Sport and G90 as luxo-cruisers (recognizing that they aren't on the sportier side of the spectrum).

Don't think referring to the G70 as the budget G80 is really accurate as the G70 rides and handles pretty differently from the G80 (nevermind that in many respects, the interior of the G70 is nicer).

Savagegeese did give his input from the angle of comfort and luxury, since he was comparing it to his experience with the G80 which he really admires for its comfort and isolation. His full review will include the driving mechanics too and hopefully how the comfort compares to the compact sedan class instead of just vs the G80. I wonder how his overall impression will be since it didn't seem positive from that little blurb.

Honestly, I probably would prefer the G80 more if it weren't so heavy. I don't know why it has to be so much heavier than everything in its class :(.

Cant really pinpoint it but i never liked Savagegeese and his reviews, Straight Pipes all the way though !

I think I've seen maybe one of his videos. But I won't watch another. He seemed as if he didn't want to be there. Like he was annoyed. I agree about the Straight Pipes!

I'm a fan of both of them. I like Savagegeese because he puts crazy amounts of effort in his videos and isn't afraid to say what he dislikes about cars.

I'm with you, I like them both. Not a big fan of Alex or Redline. Alex too boring, red line is better, but both don't say enough bad things about the cars. still I like straight and savage better.

Do you have a link or title for a review from savagegeese of the G70?

Regarding SPC...confirmed that it’s not in NA.

More from my contact...

However, we have the powertrain “smart mode”, where it adjust powertrain and chassis settings depending on vehicle behavior. It will adjust engine and transmission performance, and the TCS system continuously monitors chassis and adjusts accordingly.

We also have the Transmission TCU. It actually learns driving behavior and adjusts transmission shift quality depending on the transmission hardware condition, and how a person drives. It has an actual “learning mode”.

Also, there is a seat adjustment which occurs when shifting into sport mode that provides additional support, but this is separate from the SPC system.

Can't wait to see a Doug DeMuro review of the G70...

Right, but SG's less than enthusiastic blurb was a bit surprising since among YT reviewers, he's more on the enthusiast side of things, rather than evaluating something as a typical daily driver (but have noticed him liking rides w/ more comfortable suspensions/rides - maybe he's getting old or maybe Michigan roads just suck so bad).

That's what the new G80 is supposed to address (in part).

Lighter platform/chassis, greater use of lightweight materials (higher % of ultra-tensile steel and likely will see an aluminum hood and maybe the trunk lid (have to keep in mind that the G80 is on the larger side for the midsize segment).

Like both; they're different.

The SPipers are more fun, but they don't go into nearly the detail that SG does; and he's one of the few reviewers that dives into the mechanicals (which is why he purchased his own lift, instead of having to do it at his buddy's garage/work place).

Like AoA (and Soyfan) as well, as he's pretty comprehensive.

But he's more like the Consumer Reports of YT reviews.

But my fave is probably Thomas Holland and Throttle House.

Definitely geared towards the enthusiast and Thomas gives a lot of details on the performance, handling, etc.

Plus, find him to have one of the more engaging voices/personalities.

I love Dougs reviews

Personally, can't stand his reviews, (both the substance and his personality/presentation), but that's what makes things great - plenty of choices.

Genesis Canada seems good about hooking up reviewers with G70s. According to Savagegeese's shout out, this seems to be thanks to Patrick from Genesis PR ;).
