  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis G70 Reviews

From what I saw, there were two issues that caused the G70 release delay in the US:

Conflict with Dealerships
There seemed to be a lot of back-and-forth between Hyundai dealerships that could sell Genesis products and Genesis USA. The decision for separate brick-and-mortar Genesis dealerships led to outcry from dealerships and lawsuits too. Genesis USA should have worked out these issues a long time before a huge product launch, especially for their cheapest and most mainstream product.

Regulatory Delays
The submissions for new brand dealerships and maybe selling a new brand overall in the US, separate from Hyundai, to state-level bodies ended up being one of the critical paths to selling in many states. Genesis's regulatory department should know the submissions required for any change and the worst-case lead time for approvals.
Easy to say now "should have known" but what do we really know? They had a plan for dealers and were moving forward. Then the lawsuits started. The original plan was ahead of the G70 launch, but things went to crap. We don't know what they started and when.

Same with regulatory delays. They planned on many less dealers, suddenly the workload tripled. Again, we don't know what they knew versus what they should have known. The last new brand dealer launch was in the 1980s so they did not have an experienced staff. Getting everything for 59 states is considerable in itself.

Did they screw up? Certainly. Could any of the arm chair critics here done any better? We'll never know. Just think about the goings on at Hyundai/Genesis corporation. New products being developed and launched, updating of existing products, new dealers, distribution, new people. It is a massive amount of work.

One of the more quirkier youtube reviewers. He's a bit dry but he presents some interesting/unique takes during his reviews. It's impossible to not have fun with the RWD G70 in open mountain roads he lives near.

^ LOL...guy’s voice sounds like a whoopy cushion!!

I guess he doesn't like the emblem, LOL

Love this review! Thanks for posting! Love the guy’s comments about the emblem. I think this review may have convinced me to buy an Adriatic Blue one... I had been aiming for Mallorca Blue but I’ve noticed that seems to be the super trendy color now. I see it all over the place.

Doug DeMuro has a review of the G70 up:

I haven't watched it yet.
What a disappointing review from Doug. He spent more time complaining about clip-art graphics in the owner's manual than the actual car and performance aspects while mocking the Genesis brand.

He's a tool but people like the way he's passive aggressively talking about certain brands!
His Stinger review drivese nuts especially the way he stresses KIA!

His review was good. I don't see anything wrong with it. I prefer the G70 over the Stinger, but that's about the only thing I disagree with. For folks looking at an entry level luxury car, the review would probalby bring more folks to a genesis dealer.

I don't really like calling Doug's videos reviews because it's more of entertainment with the quirks and features. I mean the negatives with the sunroof (which is one-touch) and turn stalk are barely worth mentioning for an actual review. I do think his impressions are worth listening to though because he's driven many cars.

He does have legitimate concerns with the tech, gauge cluster, and conventional styling I think. But for the latter, I think he should consider that this car isn't competing with coupes or sports cars; the sports sedan category is fairly sterile, and even the Giulia is plain in the same way. Glad to hear he likes the driving.

On a separate note, I hate how all car reviewers are shitting on Genesis for releasing sedans. Since when were these people business experts, and since when did it matter what a company's product line up is for a car review? I don't see shit on Ferrari for not getting in the economy crossover market. And we all know they'd be complaining about a lack of sporty cars if they had released crossovers first.

Seeing the Reddit comments are hilarious though. People are so desperate to defend and justify German entries.

^ Really don't understand why DD is so popular (but then again, I can).

And those car reviewers are missing the point.

It's not like Genesis isn't developing CUVs (needed to wait for newer/lighter platform) and Genesis still needed an entry-level/compact sedan, the volume seller for sedans.

The 3/4 Series and the C Class make up a pretty big portion of BMW and MB overall sales, respectively.

Doug said he thinks the steering is sharper and more on point than the new 3 series, but then for value he gives the G70 a 7 ??? What other car in this segment has better value than this lol the G70 should be the benchmark for value

Hes a bit of a goofball but entertaining

He grades everything on the same scale. Not based on segment!

^ +1. explains why you seldom see really high scores on his "doug score" scale. a car really must stand out in a particular category. i.e., something like the Veyron would be a 9 or 10 on acceleration, with almost everything coming behind it. but then the Veyron would score very low for practicality, etc.

I thought that, my point is that makes the scores completly pointless as if a Tesla or Lambo is a 10 for performance then everything else is going to be a 5, its not really fair at all, Price should be the determining factor for all criteria

I don't understand what the problem with a car having a really good score in one category. If it's overall score is higher than another car's you can just look at the breakdown to compare. Prices are hard because they change so often, I think it would also make comparison difficult.
