  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis G70 Reviews

At least they only make a couple of mistakes here and there unlike Doug Munroe who just makes shit up all the time but gets the most views!
Shows you how much viewers actually value factual reviews!

Did you misspell his last name on purpose? That's great if you did cos he does come across like a real tool at times. His review of the G70 had him going on and on about some obscure text in the user manual.

^ ha ha. yeah, that's kinda Doug's shtick. odd and unusual observations, goofy quirks, etc. he must spend a bunch of time pouring through owners manuals and the like to find these minutiae details.

You know he looks down on Kia when you watch him trying to find a way to discredit how good the Stinger is!

Interesting results.

Lap3... 450hp G70

...should this be in a different section?

^ not the most scientific of tests. i would've expected the Tesla to launch way harder than it did. i thought the 'instant torque' would have rocketed it off the line and the G70 would have reeled it in as speeds picked up and torque dropped off. then the G70 hp would take over. that's how most other head-to-head comparos have gone with electric/gas cars. this test was the opposite. strange.

Agreed if you didn't know better you'd think the hardware was reversed judging by G70 take off in the beginning.

In typical Korean fashion, I believe they will iterate until it matches or exceeds the competition, even if that means hiring ZF engineers until they get it right. Of course, transmissions aren't long for this world anyway, so maybe in this instance it wouldn't be worth it.

Think there's only so much they can do w/ the current 8 spd AT as it wasn't developed w/ performance (geared towards luxury) in mind.

But the shifts are snappier than the AT used by Infiniti.

Wonder if the delay in the long-talked about 10 spd has to do w/ going back to the drawing board to make the transmission more performance-oriented.

I respect your opinion, but I don't necessarily agree with this. The engineers are sitting in front of a CAD station and literally everything is open for adjustment or re-design. Now maybe it's sometimes better to start with a clean-sheet design- heaven knows that's true in software. Regardless of how well things were initially designed, after 5-10 years in production you know more about the problem, and you also know more about what you could have improved. Maybe that's the case with the 8sp AT as well. I just don't know enough about the engineering details.

I vaguely remember reading somewhere prior to the 2012 MY that Hyundai was at one point considering using the ZF 8-speed, but then at production it was revealed that they were using an in-house design.

Should've gone with the ZF. That was the best part about the 440i GC I test drove. The shifts were butter at lower speeds and violent at full tilt

One more mark against the Hyundai/Kia 8spd, looks like it blew up while testing Pure Turbo's hybrid turbo swap at the drag strip...

Terry, at the N54 forum said...
I think it ran 126-128mph traps but then blew the trans. So last I heard they are working on upgrading that.

Looks like the tranny is the weak point on our cars. The engine on the above test car is working just fine with the increased boost. For me, this is a major bummer... :c
