  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis G70 Reviews

It doesn't seem like the handling difference was simply the tires. The 2.0T they mention later also had the same handling tendencies. I think the BMW just has a firmer suspension to handle severe direction changes from an autocross course, and their AWD system has been consistently praised at being amazing and easy to modulate at and past the limit. But both of these situations don't really seem like real life use cases, and they did say the G70 feels better the handle otherwise. So I'm okay with that.

^ did i miss something? no audio, commentary or narration? just a guy driving two cars...nice way to spend some time i guess

Agreed, I thought they were inconsistent at best.

Cars.com is sending mixed messages here. I'm so confused:

https://www.cars.com/articles/2019-bmw-3-series-8-things-we-like-and-5-things-we-dont-412429/

The article says the suspension for the 3 Series is more comfort oriented, with no reward for being aggressive, and is less sporty than the G70. I thought this would be for the regular, not M Sport suspension, but they mention later that the test car does include it. So this contradicts everything else cars.com said in their comparison.

Best way to find out is to drive em both yourself. Reviews are great for preliminary research, but really the butt dyno and how you enjoy the car are what matters

I’m a bit reluctant to even share this, but this poor attempt at automotive journalism at motor1.com gets so many points wrong that it should serve as a warning to anyone reading this publication. G70 2.0t M/T “review” is here: 2020 Genesis G70 2.0T Review: No Shift

I use the quotation marks because I don’t believe they actually drove the car. There are a number of factual errors and inconsistencies. For example, to say that “Sport mode makes ride harshness even worse” shows that they irreparably suffer from placebo effect or, worse yet, they didn’t drive the car. The 2.0t M/T does not have an adaptive suspension.

After driving mine for several months now, my experiences and observations are very different from theirs. FWIW

^ me thinks some editor had to tailor the article to suit that 'clever' headline.

there's a thread in the general section talking about the 2.0T acceleration. this motor1 article lists 0-60 in 5.9s. i don't think i've seen that time listed before. ~6-6.2s has been the low range of times i've noticed to date. now, 5.9 or better is where it should be at, but no other reputable source has achieved that yet as far as i am aware so i doubt these clowns were able to.

This guy's review is fun and he does a great job capturing the essence of the car..

Hahahaha 😂😂😂. I think you're right! Or maybe that wasn't just normal Coke he was sipping on 😉. Definitely the most jolly, smiley, enthusiastic reviewer I've seen. He does do a good job of getting the idea across, and touching on the pros and cons of the car.
That guy must have gone through a whole tank of gas in twenty minutes. 😂
Great video, thanks for the link. I think Genesis would sell a bunch more of these things if they could use his video for ads (legal issues aside).

Ok...so this is so bizarre. Found some video regarding cheap luxury cars, etc. What instantly caught my is is a...wait for it...yellow G70. WHAT?!?!?!

So why the F would these guys take the Siberian Ice from the press launch...and turn it yellow? That will just put people in a mind-spin thinking it exists.

Mind you...Genesis needs to officially come out with a yellow color !!!

Anyhoo...here is the vid...and picture below it...

in the video they show all the real colors. my guess is they photoshopped a different color to catch peoples eye and be click baity

If we are still talking about 2.0T acceleration, I can explain why the 0-60 time is pretty high vs the competition. The 2.0T engine really runs out of power at the higher RPMs, like 5-6k. I noticed this when I would suddenly accelerate after driving at a low speed. Basically, the engine would downshift, skip the meaty peak torque between 1.5-4k, and stay between 5-6k upshifting as needed. When this happened, the push into the seat is noticeably weaker than when accelerating from a stop.

Luckily, this behavior matches my needs for the engine. I just keep the RPMs around 4k when accelerating, and the pull feels satisfying. It doesn't get you up to speed as fast, but it still feels fun while being reasonable in everyday driving.

As for why the 0-60 times have been inconsistent... I'm still not sure.

What happens to 0-60 when you shift earlier? Just past peak torque. It's similar with the 3.3T and @scotttisha found shifting earlier than the transmission is programmed makes a difference in 0-60 and 1/4 mile.

Car and Driver removed the G70 from their 10Best for this year. I got the magazine article where they talk about some cars that didn't make it. For the G70, they said it's still just as great as when they put it on the list last year. However, the problem is that the 10Best now contains crossovers and not just cars, so it's not good enough to make what is essentially top 5 sedans/coupes.

It could improve on 0-60 times. Unfortunately, I don't think I'm a good enough driver nor do I have the tools to do a competitive 0-60 measurement. Car magazines push the cars hard and repetitively to get the times they get, and I don't want to do that to mine :(.
