If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis GV70 Reviews

Excellent point!! This guy probably has no Idea his car is not manufactured in Germany, rather in Spartanburg, SC.
Oh is it? Really?? Wow I had no clue... Thank you so much for the education. I guess that explains why my factory order is being delivered 5 weeks after placing it. I mean I guess I just thought they had really fast boats from Germany or something.

It's a shame you guys have so defensive and want to just make this forum a place for fanboys without any contrary opinions that could be helpful to others.

An earlier poster made a good point - why are you not on the BMW forum inquiring about the reliability of and high costs of maintaining your BMW?

Like I already said, I spend time on that forum as well. I don't keep cars for more than 3-4 years so all of my maintenance/service costs will be covered by BMW. But, once again, thank you SO much for trying to educate me on the car I'm buying.

It's funny how you guys are so defensive. During my decision-making process, I started a thread on the BMW forum about the GV70 vs. the X3 M40i and not a single person got as defensive as you all are when the positive attributes about the GV70 were discussed. If you guys want to just see your car through rose-colored glasses, be my guest...but your reactions really do wreak of inferiority complex which I'm sorry you have because I'll say it AGAIN...I think the GV70 is a fine product.

I enjoy a good debate, but you really haven’t brought much to the table. As far as your opinion being helpful to others, what exactly is your point?

Just because he isn't a GV70 owner, that doesn't make him a troll. Every forum has its share of trolls and fanboys... The value is what lies in between.
Not referring to you but the other poster prior, coming here to talk about how the GV70 sucks "cuz its a Hyundai" is the very definition of trolling. Imagine if some a-hole came into the BMW forums you also frequent and started saying "nobody would ever buy this tarted-up Mini"- such a person would get roasted by the entire forum, and rightfully so. The same applies here.

I don't know if it's just a place for fanboys; I mean, looking at the threads, there seem to be more than a few ticked off Genesis customers. I'm certainly not under the impression that my GV70 is all things to all people. OTOH, I'm not sure exactly what contributions you can bring to a forum ostensibly dedicated to Genesis owners. Obviously you aren't an owner looking to ask questions about your new vehicle. Perhaps you have read the GV70 manual, or otherwise figured out how everything works in order to answer questions? Do you have at least a few thousand miles under your belt driving a GV70 in order to offer a more useful opinion than I can get with a test drive?

Agree, that's not a very productive approach. The poster before you asked what I was bringing to the table in this debate and my point is this:

I was cross-shopping the GV70 with its competition. I determined that for my needs (in which driving dynamics are the most important thing), the X3 M40i was the best choice (for me). When I voiced this opinion in a previous conversation with some folks on here they got very defensive and insisted the GV70 was overall a better package and I was choosing an inferior product.

If you read any of the more reputable reviews (not YouTube hobbyists), the consensus of the GV70 is that it's much more suited to straight-ahead highway cruising than spirited driving through twisties. There is nothing wrong with this...it's just for me the X3 was a better fit...and I'm buying one full-well knowing it doesn't have a couple of the tech features the GV70 does and that the interior of the GV70 is a nicer place to be (although still not a fan of the suede seats).

My point is, I can see the pros and cons of both vehicles. Some people on here seem to think the GV70 is far superior to anything on the market and can't stand when a counterpoint is made. I just find that a bit immature and misguided.

I guarantee you if I started thread on a BMW forum and denigrated the x3 like you have the GV70, there would be a similar response.

Like I said, I started a similar thread over there a couple months ago and X3 owners were actually more open minded than what I've seen here which is the opposite of what I would have expected.

And I hardly think my comments about the GV70 have been denigrating. I've said on multiple occasions it's a really good product and I seriously considered it.

No doubt. The fundamental problem I have with the Macan is that if I want driving dynamics, a >2 ton crossover isn’t where I’m looking. Conversely, that’s exactly where I look when I want to comfortably transport my family and luggage for a week-long vacation in Williamsburg / Virginia Beach. Maybe with superb Tetris skills and my wife packing lighter than usual, I could fit everything in the Macan’s limited trunk. Or you know, I could get basically any other compact crossover and not worry about that stuff while having a little room to spare for stuff we pick up on the trip.
And it's good that you bought GV70 for your need and Macan is probably not for you. But would you buy Macan over GV70 if it had more trunk space? Personally, I would still prefer the superb interior, quiet ride, and 3-year complimentary service experience Genesis GV70 has over better driving experience in the competition in my situation, but some of my friends prefer Porsche Macan S/ X3 for their driving capabilities and looks (looks are subjective).

That’s only because Genesis chose to install the Michelin Primacy’s on The GV70. I think people would be amazed at how good of a job Albert Biermann did on The GV70 if they just put on some good UHP tires. In fact, Savage Geese, both Mark and Jack liked the way the GV70 drove over the GV80.

More space would have at least given the Macan a chance at consideration, though I doubt I'd have gone that direction in any event. As I implied, the main role this vehicle filled in my stable was long-distance highway cruiser for vacations, trips to the in-laws, etc. That superb interior and quiet ride you mention are pretty big factors when you're on a ~500 mile excursion. Sports car-like handling...not so much.

The primacy is probably a good general purpose tire with decent wear characteristics. Definitely not a performance tire. My VN came with 19" P Zeros. They stick to a warm road like glue. I have my all season Pilot's on now on 18" rims. Nice tires, but I certainly cannot push them like the Pirelli's. I agree, but when these wear out then I can pick some new tires for my wife's ride.

Let’s make sure we have properly defined and understood what a troll on the internet is and isn’t. A troll is someone who rudely and obstreperously interrupts the flow of ideas on the internet, makes things personal, resorts to name calling, all in an effort to make himself or herself the object of attention, and to be a pest, nothing more.

A troll is not someone who happens to disagree with you and says why.

This forum is open to car enthusiasts. It is for the (polite) sharing of ideas and outlooks. It is not a club where owners continually compliment one another on their impeccable good taste. What would be the value of a place like that, anyway? How many times can one tell or be told what a smart person they are, what a discerning buyer of vehicles. I mean, come on!

(What they would do or wouldn’t do on a BMW or other board is a red herring and a non answer. “Other people do it too” is the weakest justification around.)

Disagreement is not hostility. It‘s the process by which a group arrives at knowledge.

Can you please stop with this bullshit??!?!?!?! Enough already. Stick to the f'ing topic.
They can't stop themselves. They come here with no good intentions in mind, and you can spot them a mile away by their post. They don't own a GV70 or Hyundai/Genesis product.

People can say whatever they want. I honestly feel the GV70, and maybe Genesis cars in general, is great for someone who simply doesn’t care what other people think. It’s a great all-rounder and as long as you like it, that’s all that matters. Life is much better when you’re not constantly seeking affirmation.

Undoubtedly there’s a really good car in there, but the petrol version is thirsty at one end of the scale and not particularly exhilarating at the other. We’ve not tried the diesel but on paper at least it seems like the much more considered option.

Is this car better than an X3? At the moment, not quite, especially for those company car drivers who have got used to their Volvos and their premium German brands

Back on topic, by request, this just came out from the British magazine Car. I can only use a short quote from it because it is behind a paywall.

(I don’t own a BMW and have never come close to wanting one, just so you know. I think BMW’s are ugly. YMMV)

Do you know what's better than reading cars reviews? Go and drive the car for yourself. I did not need to read or wait for a bunch of reviews to purchase the GV70. I was interested in the vehicle from day one of seeing the prototypes and camouflage car. The official photos and the Asian Petrolhead review sealed the deal for me. So as soon as I could, a deal was done back in mid-June. Finally, I had the car in my garage. So far, I have not been disappointed. Is it 100% perfect? No, but no vehicles are. There will be failures, and every car manufacturer will have failures. One thing that surprised me was the public's reaction to the car. People are always complimenting and asking questions about it.
