  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis GV70 Reviews

Nobody is realistically cross-shopping a Macan and a GV70. Genesis will maybe nab a few Audi Q5 customers, maybe. Macan driving dynamics are insanely better than the GV70. You can feel the body roll when you can the GV70 on corners, and you absolutely cannot compare the PDK to the in-house Genesis transmission. A change in tires will not narrow the gap between the two vehicles considerably.

The GV70 beats the competition on interior, totally agree on that. They don’t beat any German in this segment on performance and handling Can’t really say much on value when I ordered a fully loaded ‘22 X3 M40i for less OTD than the 3.5 Sport Prestige since they gave me an MSRP discount.
And you would be completely wrong, most shopper got Porsche like any other luxury item, not needed but to celebrate and show off their success, that's the sole reason any one buys anything luxury, do you know how many people care of pure performance? 1%.... most of us care of luxury feeling in interior exterior and quite and smooth ride quality, and yes occassionally a boost of power would be great too. Selling a car to a performance nerd is annoying. No body gives a f$%k about 0-60, it's a mere indicator of the sort of capability, in real world it's worth nothing. Most people/buyer cares about how it looks and how it drives in a busy hwy or road. They are not on a tracking with a helmet. Any idiot drives their expensive german cars like a race car is not covered by warranty, once a BMW service advisor told me they get transmission and engine problems from these young drivers, they look at the black box record on revs then tell them you are not covered, the car is not meant for racing, boom you are f**ked...anybody yeah yeah you are wrong, nobody gives a f$%k about hp or pure handling....

Calm down buddy.

Some people do prefer driving mechanics over other things (that doesn’t necessarily make them brand snobs). Some Germans do drive better than Genesis.

In the case of the Macan, it's the cheapest way to get into a Porsche-badged vehicle. That's the real reason why it sells, not because of its performance. Something from a less prestigious brand like the Alfa Romeo Stelvio doesn't sell despite running circles around Porsche and the rest of the Germans.

No doubt. The fundamental problem I have with the Macan is that if I want driving dynamics, a >2 ton crossover isn’t where I’m looking. Conversely, that’s exactly where I look when I want to comfortably transport my family and luggage for a week-long vacation in Williamsburg / Virginia Beach. Maybe with superb Tetris skills and my wife packing lighter than usual, I could fit everything in the Macan’s limited trunk. Or you know, I could get basically any other compact crossover and not worry about that stuff while having a little room to spare for stuff we pick up on the trip.

I liked the review even though he is leery about the quality. I’m glad he qualified his reluctance that electronic gremlins can happen elsewhere too.

I shopped hard in February this year for a fun yet practical work car and was looking at coupes (didn’t need four doors) and the BMW 430ix I selected was a no brainer over the MB C 300 and Audi A5, Cadillac CT4 and Genesis G70. I thought I chose wisely and just loved it until the electronic gremlins took over. Maybe it didn’t help that it was pretty well loaded up with features but after the fourth one appeared and needed a module that went in the steering column (waited 5 weeks for it to arrive) I got gun shy. Yes it was under warranty but I couldn’t help but wonder how much this BMW work would cost on my nickel?

Our first model year Palisade Limited has been flawless so the GV70 quality seems to be there and I would rather have this warranty than others. Yes it’s a crap shoot and you cross your fingers on any brand you try that you got a good one!

Since 2010 I have had work cars (30k+ mile/year) InfinitI EX35, Ford SHO, Nissan Murano Platinum, Toyota Highlander Platinum Hybrid, Palisade Limited (now wife’s vehicle) BMW 430ix and now this GV70. Both the Infiniti EX35 and SHO had over 140k on them when traded and out of all those vehicles, the BMW 430ix was the ONLY one that needed warranty work. Maybe dumb luck and maybe I’ve been spoiled but…I have high hopes for this GV70.

Many German cars may be German designed, but are no longer made in Germany. The X3 is manufactured in Spartanburg, SC, and some GLCs are manufactured in Finland.

My GV70 is now in the shop for 6 weeks with a new rear end in the wait. I'd go with " dumb luck" . Some have it and some are born under a bad sign..

And I would have preferred if this Brunswick green GV that sucked me in sitting in the showroom, have the Prestige package and I would have loved it more, but it is the Advanced package and doesn’t have the eLsd. So again it’s a crap shoot.

It does, but American reviewers for some reason keep claiming that the GV70 uses the same platform as the G70, even though it doesn't. The GV70 platform is the same scalable M3 architecture as in the new GV80 and G80 with the same multi-link front and rear, and like the electric G80 is also compatible with an EV setup as we can already see from spyshots of the EV GV70 variant floating around.

The G70 uses struts up front and was never designed with electrification in mind. The G70 platform itself was a slightly cheaper version of the one from the old 2015 Hyundai Genesis. It also wasn't built to accommodate the new 3.5TT found in the G80, GV80, and GV70, which is why the G90/Stinger/G70 have yet to receive it.
And the wheel base is two inches longer than the G…guess that’s small potatoes for them.

Very well put! There are plenty of drivers who want performance and handling… even in North America where we tend to prefer being pampered and surrounded by tech. However, the compromises involved in driving a huge SUV with a high center of gravity make performance hard to come by in this segment by any brand. So you make a choice based on family needs and preferences.

What I don’t agree with is the effort to intentionally blur the lines with the phrase “ride quality.” You end up having to go to great lengths to figure out what is meant by this…and what I keep learning is that when a car review talks of ride quality, what they mean is that you will feel and engage with the road, but when most buyers in this segment talk of ride quality, what they mean is not feeling (the bumps in) the road.

That is why I discount the “best car I have ever owned” testimonials. If the best car you have ever owned is a ginormous, tall SUV, then I am already sure that your definition of ride quality and my definition of ride quality are not going to be the same.

I would discount this reviewer’s comments. He does not own a GV70 and has no intention of buying one. He continues to come back and troll. The reality is the Macan is a sportier driving car, but on an overall basis (technology, front and rear room, luxuriousness, cargo space, ride quality, etc), it wins hands down, as past reviewers have noted.

Well I’ve owned among others, the ‘83 Toyota Celica GT-S, ‘91 Sentra SE-R, 2015 Mustang V6, 2017 Mazda Mazda6 and now The GV70, and I will go on record that this is by FAR the best car I’ve ever owned.

Just because he isn't a GV70 owner, that doesn't make him a troll. Every forum has its share of trolls and fanboys... The value is what lies in between.

I think some people (fanboys) get really overly defensive if anyone writes anything that isn't 100% positive about the GV70 on this forum. I get it, you want to feel good about your purchase. But, counterpoints and realism are what makes forums like this useful for people looking to make an educated buying decision.

It's pretty much universally agreed the GV70 is a good product. But, depending on each buyer's individual preferences, it may or may not be the best fit for his or her needs.

I selected an X3 M40i over the GV70 3.5 SP because I felt certain aspects of the driving dynamics were better for me and I valued that more than some of the other areas where the GV70 is superior. That said I don't think the X3 is perfect by any means. Nor is the GV70.

I’m curious why you spend time on this forum and not the BMW forum? do you like us better?

If it looks like a duck walks like a duck, it's a troll.

I love cars and find (most) of the conversation educational on forums. And yes, I spend time on the BMW forums as well.

If you think my post was trolling then you must not know what trolling is. You all are coming off more than a tad bit insecure. I seriously considered a GV70 but simply decided there was a better option for me. I'm not calling your kid ugly so relax.

Personally, I’d say your opinion is mute since you chose the inferior car.

Excellent point!! This guy probably has no Idea his car is not manufactured in Germany, rather in Spartanburg, SC.
