Genesis GV70 Reviews

If a loaded G70 is ~54k USD...I cannot see the GV70 being much over 60k.

That’s my guess.

~6-8k more for some more metal...and some extra tech.

I haven’t checked lately...but what’s the price difference between a loaded A4 and a loaded Q5?

Even price difference between the new G80 and the GV80 (both loaded)?
Replying to my own post.

I had some down time this afternoon.

I priced out a loaded 2021 A4 and a loaded 2021 Q5 (not the hybrid). The Q5 came out $3.5k more ($53.3k vs $56.8k). I was actually shocked.

I did the same for the new G80 and GV80...both loaded. The GV80 is $3.3k more ($68k vs $71.3k). So pretty darn close.

So...my guess is that the GV70 will be well below $60. Loaded G70 (current version) is $53.3k. GV70 will have the newer engine and more of the new tech...so lets say about $58k for the Sport.

If it goes over $60...I will be in shock and out of my price range. But...if they could nail it for about $57k...that would be f'ing brilliant and beat out the Q5 as the Audi does not have the free maintenance in the above price.

The only thing that blows up my theory is looking at the S.Korean site. I built the new G70 (still old engine and same tech) and the GV70. Both loaded Sports. I took both prices...converted to USD...but only to find the difference. The GV70 was about $12k more. I just cannot see that happening.

That GV70 definitely needs to be cheaper then the Q5. 55k is the highest imma go can't justify anything over that. They could've atleast put the mood lighting in the G70 they did that car wrong in the interior department. I can't see that happening also 12k more thats ridiculous I know it's an SUV but damn.

Yeah...even a loaded up X3 is right at the $55-56k range...4 bangers though. So If the GV70 is over $57k...they are making a huge mistake.

55k-56k for an 4cyl is absolutely ridiculous and toooo much money to be charging in my eyes for an 4 banger. That's why I dont understand why people buy these Volvo's with 4 cyl I would be pissed. Genesis shouldn't be charging no more 57k tops but mid 60s is what I think they will do.

Well if they do that...they are 101% fubar'd. They would officially be WAY more expensive then their direct competitors...loaded X3/Q5. Their entire shpeal is to under cut their competitors.

Ran some numbers to come up with what I think may be a close price for the GV70 in the US based on the price of the GV80 and comparing the Korean MSRP and US MSRP and exchange prices. You can never do a 1:1 conversion from other currencies to USD and say "that's what it will sell for in the US". It doesn't work that way due to many different factors, some of that being taxes built into the price in some countries (not sure if that's the case in Korea or not, but I know it's like that in UK, EU with VAT) and other reasons like package builds being available there and not here, and vice versa. I've been doing this for many years, even with Japan MSRP vs US and have been really close.

In the sheet/image attached, you can see the price in KRW, and also as a 1:1 KRW to USD, vs what the US MSRP actually is for the GV80. Applying some math, and we can see the percentage difference in prices between the GV80 packages. What I found really interesting is that the RWDs are more discounted than the AWDs. (Or conversely, the AWDs are carrying a premium/marked up?)

So, I carried that forward with the same percentages between RWD and AWD. (There is no 3.5T RWD listed on the Korean site).
I think this will be close to what the pricing will be in the US, and if so, I cannot wait.
🙂

In a nutshell, expect the GV70 to be about $10k less ( +/- $1k) than a comparable GV80. And yeah, a fully loaded 3.5 will be in the $60k's with all the options ticked.

Think it'll all depend on how much Genesis USA includes in the top trim or if they decontent some stuff that the top KDM trim gets.

Figure a modest price increase for the FL G70 - say, around $55-55.5k.

The GV70 should be $2-3k higher in price with the same level of kit, but will have more tech and amenities, so the price can certainly creep up to the $60k mark, if not exceed it (depending on what all Genesis includes).

Drives of all 3 KDM powertrains (English subs).

For those who don't need AWD, the 2.5T RWD seems to be the one to get for those who want optimal handling (lower weight up front).

This guy bought the cheapest GV70 RWD with no options whatsoever (converts to 44.5K USD with tax included), and to sum up their initial impressions, they can't believe it's the base model. It has 18 inch wheels which looks a bit weird on here, but the synthetic leather was a real surprise for them in how good and comfortable it was. Back seats are very roomy for the class, and the interior still feels like a luxury car interior. I'm not sure about the half digital instrument cluster though, looks a bit off to me.

I'm sorry for this type of compact suv I'm going for the 3.5T sport trim with everything in it. I personally can't do the base model.

Follow up video of his family going from Seoul to Busan in this same car. Takeaway comments from him:

  • 18 inch wheels ride comfortably but still not the best ride comfort. He found the 21 inch with the adaptive dampers more comfortable.
  • Interestingly better suspension setup than the GV80 they tested, due to less shock intrusion in the GV70
  • Fake leather still looks and feels very nice, although doesn't look as good as nappa leather
  • 300 hp is plenty good
  • Fuel mileage on highway not as good as expected
  • Compared to the new Tucson and similarly priced fully optioned santa fe and pallisade, this base 2.5T GV70 is at another level and is just better overall. You can feel the luxury badge here that can't be matched in a similarly priced Hyundai

Not a fair comparison to include the Tucson (Inspiration 32,140,000 KRW), Santa Fe (Calligraphy 39,100,000 KRW). Base GV70 is 51,800,000 KRW before options. It's almost a 13,000,000 KRW markup over the Santa Fe and 20,000,000 KRW over the top Tucson. I'll give you the Pallisade comparison though (VIP at 52,800,000 KRW), however you're also getting a much bigger vehicle for the price.

He was commenting that someone who replied to his original video said he bought the new hybrid tucson for 40 mil KRW (and regrets not comparing to this base GV70), so the price can definitely get up there. And with RWD, the GV70 is 48.8 mil KRW, not sure where your 51.8 is coming from (adding AWD?).

The standard dampers don't come with the road sensing/reading feature that's also on the GV80, right? That could be the difference between the 18-inch wheels with standard dampers vs 21's with adaptive dampers and possibly road sensing.

And yeah from my experience with the G70 seats, I actually like the pleather Genesis uses vs. their standard leather (not nappa). The standard leather is the same stuff they use in Hyundais, and it's stiff, taut, and rubbery feeling. The pleather has a lot of foam insulation for a soft sit, though the surface texture is a bit squeaky since it's so smooth.

I was comparing the Tucson Inspiration top trim with AWD with the comparable AWD GV70 (it's be foolish to compare the 2WD variants). All numbers from Hyundai in Korea. And throwing hybrid into the mix is also not a like-for-like comparison. (But does get closer to 40mil but still not 40 mil, and you're still 10mil away from the AWD GV70, so point still stands that's a LOT of KRW). ;)

You cannot build a 40 mil KRW Gas Tucson, and my prices included the highest tax rate. Closest you can get is 35 mil with all options. And again, comparing AWD to only RWD doesn't work. Have to do like for like.

Granted the Tucson is also going to punch above it's price, especially with all the options ticked. :)

My wife's 2019 CX-5 Gran Touring Reserve was only $35k out the door. It's loaded and we have no complaints. Yes, it's two years old and doesn't have quite as much new tech as the GV70, but if the price difference turns out to be anywhere near $20k, that will be a tough sell, especially with the CX-5 continually getting rave reviews. Just got a 10 Best award (again) by C&D. We chose it over the Audi and BMW.

The rear cargo volume of the GV70 is what I'm waiting to see (for the pups) and the CX5 is the one just above the cut line at 30.9 cu/ft. There are a lot of cars I'd consider also and price is sort of a factor but not a big one, given the options and what it can do. I'm also waiting to see what they do with the new Grand Cherokee (regular, not the new L). I mean, even the RAV4 and new Tucson & Sorento (3rd row not needed so will always be folded down) is on my list (huge cargo areas).
