However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Genesis GV70 Reviews

I have been debating between the 2022 BMW X3 at $48,000(HUD, Digital Gauges are included) vs Genesis 2.5T Advanced/Prestige at $50,000/$52,000. I test drove both 2.5T and 3.5T and really liked 3.5T but dont have the budget for its prestige package but I found bmw drive of X3 better than the 2.5T GV70 (I hate Genensis are not giving digital cluster on 2.5t prestige model).

2022 x3 does look way better than the 2021 version but GV70 has a very exclusive look but no digital gauge, hud and lesser drive in 2.5t is pushing me towards X3.

Both include 3 years of maintenance which is great.
I agree that is a tough call to make. The BMW was the other vehicle I considered but I was comparing the X3 M40i to the top spec GV70 3.5. I've had BMW's and that in-line six is a great motor but I wanted something new and different and the Genesis to me feels like a more special vehicle. I did not get this for my wife (I don't think she would know what to do with 375 HP).

That said I agree that the non-full digital gauge is a bit of a bummer. If I were going with the 4 cylinder as much as I like the Genesis design inside and out I'd probably go with the BMW. That 4 cylinder motor is very good with that ZF-8 speed transmission and the fuel economy is quite good. I'd spec it with the "M" goodies including the suspension but that would probably push the price into the mid-high 50 grand area. I'd get the Phytonic blue with at least 20' wheels. Tough call.

You are right on the money. I think if i had the budget i would go with 3.5t gv70 in comparison to m40i but for 4 clyinder engine, gv70 2.5t did not seem refined and did not feel fast either considering it has 300hp while 4 cylinder on x3 is still lot of fun and has just enough power and refinement to put a smile on my face. I have never owned a german car but 4 cylinder power on x3 for me felt sufficient. I really din like the 2021 looks but since that is fixed I might just go with 2022 bmw x3 with premium package which will put it at $48k plus tax. Unfortunately, I dont have budget for m package. I also think bmw will retain better resale value after 5 years than GV70, Planning to buy the suv on cash.

will you recommend the xdrive or the sdrive? I was leaning towards sdrive as I will be driving this in California.

Haha, if you care at all about resale value then don't buy a BMW, especially the X3.

This is good to know. Between X3 2022 and GV70, you think GV70 will have better resale value after 5 years?

Seeing as the X3 has the worst depreciation of any SUV in the past 5 years, I would be surprised if the GV70 didn't do better. BMW warranties go away after the fourth year, so unless you plan to buy an extended warranty the vehicle isn't going to hold its value after that point.

For those considering longer term ownership, the German SUV’s have somewhat lower reliability and exorbitant repair costs. I feel much better about the Genesis long term reliability and somewhat lower maintenance costs.

If you’re looking at 8-10 years in the family, those costs far outweigh depreciation differences. A GV70 would be a great hand me down for a grandkid.

BTW I forgot to mention that if I personally were getting the BMW ( either version) I would lease it. No matter what the residual costs are when they get out of warranty everything you have to repair is very expensive. BMW means Bring More Wallet.....

Interestingly I also went down this path and basic conclusion for me was that if I were to lease, BMW made more sense and if I were to own, Genesis made more sense. I ended up the ownership route in the hopes of keeping the SUV for 10 years and now it comes to about $7k per year out the door over 10 years with the extended warranty for the ADV Plus trim.

I am currently on my 11th year on my Hyundai Tucson and (knock on wood) have had zero mechanical issues. Only issue I had was a fuse box issue in first year that was resolved by the dealer after 3 tries.

I am now debating between Genesis 2.5T Select at $46,545(Without Discount) vs BMW 2022 X3 with Premium Package at $45,737(with 5% discount). Planning to purchase in the month of September. Since I am paying cash, after talking to few dealers, discount of $2000 or more shall be possible. Almost same price for both of them.

BMW X3 - Gets the better Steering Wheel, HUD, Heated Steering Wheel, Full Digital Gauge Cluster
GV70 - Gets Lexicon 18 speakers, Front Ventilated Seats, Better Looks, Wireless Charger, Better 14inch Infotainment Screen, 300HP engine, Cheaper Maintenance down the road, 5 year warranty (Lack of Full digital gauge or option for it is super annoying!)

I have few more weeks until I make up my mind.

Has anyone read up on this?

There has been an ongoing issue with Hyundai 2.5T Smart Stream Engine, This video does a good job explaining the issue. This is crazy! Lot of websites are full of this information.

The engines that have issues were the old Theta II batch, not the Smartstream. The Smartstream 2.5 mention in this video has been in the Sonata since 2020 without any major issues.

From what I'm reading, that channel has a pretty terrible reputation for making stuff up. It's more junk like Insa-K and Autopost, which basically cash in on German car fanboys by making crap up about domestic Korean brands and often tend to label accidents as actual defects. In fact they got to taken to court for slander because of this...

Follow up video from Master Park, he seems to be concentrating on the non-turbo, 13 to 1 compression ratio 2.5 version. Compares changes that were made. Time will tell what differences there are with Genesis version of pistons, rings etc. May not be apples to apples, but interesting points made.

oh boy, another German fanboy trying hard to smear Korean automaker reputation with baseless accusations. Do you guys at least get paid for your effort?

What's really ironic is that BMW is under tons of scrutiny in South Korea right now for spontaneous combustion (not recalls, actual documented cases of fires) and recently had their Korean department raided by police.

Of course this guy doesn't want to talk about it, he's too busy trying to convince his viewers that a used BMW 7 Series is a great investment!

I'm Portuguese but I have been living in Canada since 2013 and here's a few problems germans had in Europe that don't get reported here.

The Mercedes E class (W212) the models with the diesel engines were catching fire. A total of 150.000 models were recalled, I had a friend that lost his garage because the car caught fire overnight.

VW group. Their 1st generation 2.0 TDI couldn't reach 100.000kms due to a design flaw in the engine head. It was cracking the engine head when it reached 100.000kms.

There's also other brands with some severe flaws but they don't get sold here

New review:

Normally I don't like his reviews as he is prone to some bad information but he did a good job here. Would have been nice to see some acceleration runs as he lives in the wide open northwest. He got the pricing wrong as he said the one he has is 53k and it's 63k and change. So now that he's on board Alex and Redline should be soon.

I am not a german fanboy! Infact I have never owned a german vehicle before, This is why I have been researching about both cars and this came up and hence I shared it to get some thoughts. It looks like people like you take things quite personally.
