  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis GV70 Reviews

Nonsense comment
The nonsense is sitting there wishing for stuff not available in certain markets. Did you email Genesis?

I already know full well what is available in the US. Stating jealousy of what other markets get doesn't mean I'm trying to change anything. This forum has folks from Canada, Australia and perhaps other counties that may be interested in videos such as that. Besides other details provided that were of interest to all.

I’ve had excellent service at a Hyundai/ Genesis dealership…
My experience has been good. There was nothing run down or dirty at the dealership I bought my G70 from. The valet service is amazing. I live about 40 minutes away from my Genesis dealer. I can schedule my car for routine maintenance and they drive all the way from Manchester NH to Kittery ME and drop off a loaner car and bring my car back later that day.

On another note I am hoping to get a decent deal on a GV70 mid September. They are selling it as MSRP but my worry are the "extra costs" dealers like to add on. Time will tell. I refuse to over pay for any car at any price. My G70 is still a very nice car with less then 15k miles on it so worse case scenario I keep it and keep looking. Right now I have equity in my lease and it is the only reason why I started looking at the GV70 15 to 16 months before my current lease expires.

My wife's has the intelligent lighting. It is the auto high beam feature and it works well. There is certainly a cabin air filter too. Of course it is a paper filter. Could the Middle Eastern spec have a special filter option? That would make sense.

Actually the auto high beam (High Beam Assist - HBA) is a different function than IFS (intelligent front lighting system). IFS uses 8 small leds per light module (in an array) that individually dim to reduce lighting across the throw width of the light pattern. (Note individual leds on or off at bottom of 3rd image graphic).

So the full array is high beams? Or do they also adjust the angle? And then selectively turn off as traffic is detected.

And we wonder why every little repair is so expensive now -- no buying a replacement bulb at Canadian Tire if someone breaks that headlight! Although I don't think they have bulbs for my ancient Ford Explorer (I still had a spare bulb until recently, cost about $3 I think), a single halogen replacement bulb is still <$10.

No moving parts, each led has it's own lens focusing the beam pattern a certain direction or angle (overlapping). Here's a good description write up.

Is anyone else getting horrendous MPG out of the GV70? I have a 3.5T and I'm getting 9.3 mpg driving around the city in eco mode

Not that bad ! Don't look after only a mile or two. The computer needs some miles to get a rolling average. I don't really do any city stop and go but I'm getting 15-18 in suburbia. But I'm prone to hammer if from time to time if the road is clear.

I've got a little over 3000 miles now and it's starting to improve. I've got the meter as high as 26 on a fairly level highway drive at 70 mph. Like I said in another post.. at the end of the day this is rig is going to be another 20 MPG deal. And that is one of the knocks on these Korean engines. They are not great on fuel. Somehow BMW manages to get so much more out of their in-line 6 and 2.0 turbo 4. It's kind of annoying.

I live in Miami do all city driving during the week and I'm normally in comfort or sport mode. I get 13-14mpg when I'm punching it quite a bit, otherwise I'm in the 15-16 range in the city. On the weekends once I do some Hwy driving I'm in the 18-20 range and that's with the occasional sport mode and spirited driving.

Thanks for the insight. I wonder if there will be an ECU flash that will help improve fuel economy

It’s really hard to out-engineer the original designers for fuel economy in this current market with all the EPA mandates. ECU tunes and chip tunes are designed for power. The best way to get better economy is not to mash the throttle, not to go that much over the speed limit, and to coast whenever possible. It’s hard to do all three unless you have trained yourself.

Wow. He's already done 3 reviews and many others have done none. Interesting that he picked out the BMW. That is the competition.

The exhaust note is not good when revving like that. Too much rev hang and it does not sound like it has the power that it does. No surprise that he find's the handling a little less than the M340i. Agree that the head's up display should change with the sport mode. I'm glad I got a full look at the Vanilla Beige interior. It's pretty looking but no way could I live with that much bright and white. I agree that they need to offer the full leather with other colors in top trim.

Review by Raiti’s Rides:

I love the camera work that Lauri? does. You really get a good look at the vehicles from so many angles up close and far away.

Timely review for me personally as, after a lot of back and forth, I placed an order for an X3 M40i yesterday. It was a tough decision and I really love the exterior/interior styling of the GV70... but for me the refinement of the overall driving dynamics (engine/transmission/handling) are what ultimately steered me towards the BMW. I was surprised to hear in this latest review that he prefers the GV70 transmission over the ZF in the X3 M40i because to me the ZF is superior when the two are driven back to back.

The mid-cycle refresh of the X3 has improved the interior a bit, but it's still not as nice as the GV70... Oddly enough though, my wife prefers the BMW as she finds the Genesis a bit austere... A word she used to use to describe BMW interiors. BMW has also tweaked the exterior styling a bit and made the M40i look almost identical to the X3M for 2022 (bummer for the X3M people but bonus for me). The optional 21" rims do complete the look in my opinion. I've attached a couple pics of the spec I ordered.

As far as price goes, the two vehicles are very similarly equipped. The only things I'm missing out on in the BMW are ventilated seats (I didn't spec them because the consensus is they suck), and the massage function for the driver. Otherwise, option for option, it's pretty much apples to apples.

As far as pricing goes, the MSRP of my spec is just over $67k. I was able to get a little over 5% off my order, so the sell price was about $63.5k. So, pricing wise, the current street price was about the same for both vehicles. And, since the X3s are made in SC, and my dealer had a week 38 production date, it should be delivered in about a month. Crazy fast, especially in this environment.
I've enjoyed this forum and am still greatly impressed by what Genesis has accomplished with the GV70. Continued happy driving to all you new GV70 owners out there...

@Wj100 nice choice and best of luck with it.

I‘m getting 27.5 MPG, combined, including mountain driving. This is in ECO mode, plus I’m not an aggressive driver. With only city driving, of course, it’s less. Going to take a long interstate trip tomorrow, and expecting to get higher.

Another world view from Herzliya, Israel.
Not exactly a review, but filming gives a good representation of the Uyuni White paint & Obsidian Black interior. Nice showroom, to boot.
