  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Loaners...This looks bad

Still doesn't make sense why they would even bother becoming a dealer then. Instead of wasting time and inventory space, they could have had cash in hand. :wallbash:
Sure it does. It's an opportunity to sell another product; one with accolades and awards with little to no investment (because they're simply ignoring the "rules". They know they can ignore them because theres no enforcement. Bel Air Genesis sales manager told me that flat out when I was shopping. Actually laughed and said, "...yeah the stand alone dealerships ain't gonna happen and that I should probably look to another real luxury brand if i want perks if I could afford it hahaha..." needless to say, I went elsewhere.

Sure, but if you waste that opportunity (aka make little to no sales), you probably would have been better off taking the check and reinvesting that money somewhere else, right? I suppose the GV80/SUV sales were the opportunity they wanted to have rather than the G70/80/90, but even then they would be hard pressed to earn repeat business if the dealer continues to treat the luxury brand vehicles as Hyundai products

Maybe theyll het their act together, but I doubt it. Again, their bread and butter is Hyundai sales and Hyundai buyers dont seem to care because i guess they dont expect perks like loaners or valet or nice showrooms.

But really, from what I've seen, the Hyundai dealership style seems to be "You should feel lucky that we are allowing you to buy a vehicle from us."

That is not exclusive to Hyundai. I've walked out of a bunch of different showrooms for that exact reason. My favorite was a dealer that called the next day to tell me they could do better. Sorry, I left you place and went to Dealer X and bought it for much less.

I had a similar experience with my MB purchase a few years back. First dealer made me feel like he was doing me a favor by letting me just look. I asked a few questions about a purchase and again, it was like they were a gift to man. Visited another MB dealer and the rep. was excellent... low key, knowledgeable, and got me a good deal with the SUV that I wanted. I have to admit that if there weren't dealer options then, I might have went to another brand.

Now, I just placed an order for my G70. Sales rep was pretty new.. 9 months on the job, and he as well as the couple of others I spoke with were excellent. We even chatted about competition and all were respectful and would admit when they weren't familiar enough with the other brands. We even talked a bit about how the Hyudai/Genesis dealer network is/isn't evolving. Frankly, they were happy since they figured they'd get shut out of the Genesis brand. With some of the stories that I've read I had low expectations. Suffice to say.. they easily surpassed them. I wonder if it has something to do with location? Or maybe it's just the personality of a particular dealership.

Dealerships in the US are private businesses, so there some good and bad ones based on how those independent companies run things. Most automakers set rules for the dealerships that sell their products, but some dont enforce them; Hyundai and genesis seem to fit that.

Couple of months ago they hired a new guy to be in charge of dealers so I'm hoping he can get something done. First step should be getting rid of the worst.

This is similar to my experience with a Jaguar dealership just before I bought my G80. I was looking to replace my 2014 XJL with a 2018 XJL (because no one wants to own a Jag out of warranty, lol), and we were down to just about a $1k difference on an $80k+ vehicle and the sales manager refused to budge. A week later I ended up flying to DC to purchase my G80 and a few days after that I received another call from the Jag dealership asking if I was still interested in the XJL. Sorry, bud, I had moved on. I subsequently found out that they sold the car for $5,000 less than my last offer.

I"m first time Genesis buyer and will not buy again if I have to continue dealing with dirty hyundai dealerships. I got caught up in the car but If i could do it over again I would not buy G70 again mainly due to dealing with hyundai. Im very surprised how much time GMA is giving dealers to get their $hit together. Its hard to imagine how anyone that walks into BMW, Audi, Infiniti dealer then steps into hyundai and forks over 50k... still dont get how/why i did it haha. I must have been drugged.

Fortunately the two dealers I've used were as nice and clean as any and had trained Genesis people. If they can do it, certainly others can too. GMA should be setting standards and holding dealers to them.

As for forking over 50k, at some of the other dealers mentioned you'd be forking over 60k so that was probably part of your decision. But that is still not a reason/excuse for slopply showrooms or service.

I get it.. there good and bad. actually things were cheaper over there because had CPO options, G70 being so new had no CPO options. But in the end it was between G70 and 340 and went with G70 to get better reliability.

Yeah, the sooner the better. With the SUVs coming, they have to be aware of the lost potential due to the lack of true luxury dealerships. No way can they compete as a valid luxury car company with the current dealership model. They have the products, but they need the full package.

I have to wonder if they will use the GV as leverage. As in "yes, the dealer across town got 16 of them but we can't find your order"

Funny you phrase it like that. When I was speaking to the GM at the dealership I bought my car from (he also manages the Cadillac dealer next door) said something along the lines of "we pick who we want to sell a car to. If they look like they'll be a pain, we will just choose not to sell to them." :suicide:

In the live streams, they stressed that GV80 will demand a high degree of customer focus if you want to sell it. This may only pertain to Korea for now and maybe they will adopt a different model for the USDM. Time will tell.

It was heartening to see that Genesis recognizes this issue and is focusing on it - even calling it out multiple times. I hope they do more than just refocus in the Home Country, where they have massive control, and pay lip service in the others.....

Short story: my mom leases an IS350. Lease is up in about 8 months. I think the G70 is perfect for her. Her response, I won't get a car without valet and car loaner. I think this will be a big deal sooner than later.

And your local dealer won’t give you that?

btw which other dealers do valet?

Appears that there will be a new (modified) dealer pay-plan that will try to better address customer satisfaction when it comes to sales and service.

The new plan, he said, "is simplified, is reasonable, especially when it comes to the earn-back portion, which is really earned on [customer satisfaction] performance." But it still sets a higher bar than the old plan, with potential winners and losers.

"It's still a complex program," Fink said. "The earn-back currently has very low hurdles in which to clear, you need a current sign, or there are some very low bars to clear to get the money. Now, the earn-back is more variable. You could earn more than the current amount, you could earn materially less, you could even earn zero if your [customer satisfaction or sales satisfaction] scores are not at set levels."

High stakes at Genesis

At Genesis, the facility program is going to be even more critical, given that its luxury cars currently are sold out of Hyundai dealerships. The brand wants to establish its own identity through exclusive showrooms, separate service facilities and even standalone stores for dealers who believe they can generate the volume to make that profitable.

Building out Genesis facilities is an important part of its goal toward disrupting the U.S. luxury market.

"What we are asking our dealers to do is to invest in the dealerships with us," Del Rosso said in an interview this month. "There's going to be an initial reaction, but then as the dealers experience the program, there's going to be more and more momentum."
