  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello everyone,

I got myself a 2013 Genesis V6 with tech and premium package June 2014. Feels like forever ago but I've enjoyed every moment driving this car (my last car was a 2007 Honda Civic!). I got the car with 3,000 miles on it and it just hit 14,000. I did have a couple of questions if anyone can share some insight.

1.) My wife was driving my car some time last week and possibly behind a large truck that kicked up a small rock and chipped (not cracked) the windshield very lightly. There's no fear of the windshield cracking because it is very very small. However, I do see it while driving since its right in my line of vision. The dealer told me insurance can take care of it BUT they are required to get a "special Hyundai Genesis windshield" and any ordinary windshield won't work due to rain-sensing wipers, sensors, etc. My question is, aren't the sensors on the inside of the car? Also, any way there's a DIY method to get rid of the chip or something I can buy from an Autozone to fix it? I'd show you all a pic but the chip is so tiny that my phone's camera can't focus on it.

2.) With only 14,000 miles on it, I noticed the left side of driver's seat leather showing white wrinkles. Once again, dealer said this is normal wear and tear...sure but at only 14,000?! I am 5'11 195 lb and I try my best not to slide on that part but anything I can do to preserve the seats better? Attached is a picture.

3.) Some days when I'm driving without music and cruising on a moderately bumpy highway (I-35 here in Dallas), the inside cabin makes this very annoying rattling noise. I can't figure out where its coming from and it drives me insane because the car's ride is so smooth and I want silence sometimes when driving.

As someone who just joined this forum after lurking a lot, these are my first few posts. I'd truly appreciate anyone's help who can provide any sort of help! I am sure some of you have been Genesis owners way longer than I have.

Thank you!

I have the same thing happening. I use a high end furniture leather cleaner and conditioner.

The windshields have open areas, special brackets, and sensor prisms attached to the glass based on the car's options. So, it is not just a sheet of glass, but it also has stuff glued to it in the right places for your rain & light sensor and the lane departure sensor. This is the same for all luxury cars.

Autozone does have glass repair products. Plus, the glass repair companies, like Safelite will also do minor repair pretty inexpensively. It might be worth a call to Safelite (or similar) to get a quote for the chip repair.

I think some of the cars also have an acoustic treatment done to the glass upping the price further.

I cracked my windshield on our trip from GA to CA and back. Didn't know any better and had the glass replaced by a local glass place. The rain sensor works fine but the LDW is messed up. The lane icons on either side of the display don't lock on to the lane markers. Most of the time they flash white or blank. But I've noticed when I move close to the lane markers it suddenly locks on and alarms. Wife can't stand it so I kept it turned off most of the time anyway. Lesson learned, make sure you get a Hyundai windshield no matter who installs it.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Appreciate it! I will give Safelite a call.

On the noise issue: If it is just on bumpy roads this may not be the problem but it may help someone else. I had a noise and traced it to small leave setting in the folds of the cabin air filter. The leave vibrated in the wind even when the car was setting on a windy day. I have another noise that I am still looking for...maybe the right side post between the windows or the sunroof. Need a buddy to check while I drive.

This sounds like the noise that I had on both my 2011 and my 2014 R-Spec. What I noticed that if I pressed lightly on the headliner immediately in front of the right side of the Sunroof the noise would disappear. After a couple trips to the dealership, the mechanic told me that there was a piece of plastic and wire cables running along the headliner in front of the Sunroof that was 'flapping against the roof'. He insulated the heck out of them and the noise is forever gone.

It took me quite a awhile to find it on my 2011. I was looking for it on my 2014 last year and noticed it within 2 weeks and got it fixed within a month. I knew exactly where to tell the mechanic where to fix it. Let me know if this is your problem as well.

My current noise gremlin is coming from the rear sun shade. Over moderate (or larger) bumps, the wheel that rolls up and down on the non-motor side briefly bounces off the glass and makes a sound when it returns against the glass. The dealership said it's a non-adjustable part. Nothing too annoying, and lowering the sunshade eliminates the issue.

Sounds like most of your questions have been answered. Only thing I will add is a good leather cleaner followed by a good leather conditioner on a regular basis will help take care of your seats. I have mine done about once every 3 months.

Funny, I test drove a 12' Genny and in the middle of the windshield had Hyundai Acoustics label in the middle. The one I have now does not have that on the windshield. Does that mean it is not the same type of windshield?

The safelite repair does a pretty good job of making the bruise disappear. With regard to I35 in Dallas, I can't believe how rough it's gotten recently. I'm sure if you drive on it alot, there will be more rattles. Thankfully, I can avoid it most of the time.

ComputerBudda,

I think due to the couple of ice storms we had here messed up the concrete and caused a ton of pot holes. Luckily, my work's office moved to Addison so no more I-35 and no more highway driving for me.

I will have the dealer check on the rattle to see if it is internal.

Thanks everyone.
