Genesis Owners: What vehicle did your Genesis replace?

LS430. My V8 Gen was cheaper to lease than an ES350 though the Hyundai Genesis is equivalent to the LS460 save better handling with a few cost saving cuts in seating and a much crappier though no more dishonest dealership

Have you sold many highly tuned cars?

I've always assumed that the mods reduce resale value, so you lose all money put into the car, and then some. But maybe this is incorrect? What has been your experience?

It'll be interesting to see how much attention the Genesis gets from the aftermarket.

You just have to have the right buyer. This is my third time around selling modified cars. This time around I'm getting most of my aftermarket parts money back.

My Genesis 4.6 has replaced my 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX STI that went to my wife as a Xmas present! It only had 29K miles and lots and lots of "Subaru Bucks".

Interesting variety of cars in this thread. I'll be returning my 2005 Honda Accord EX-L lease 2 months early and picking up my 3.8 (no packages) on Thursday. Despite all the comparisons to Lexus, BMW, etc, I was not really lookiong for a luxury car. I was shopping for a fully-loaded 4-cylinder Accord or Mazda 6. Decided to try a BMW 323 and fell in love with the V6 but it's pretty small inside for 2 car seats. Then along came the Genesis with the V6, lots of room and lease payments between the Accord and the BMW.

I replaced a 2006 Dodge Charger ( 17K miles) with the Road and Track Package on it. Alot of people are unaware of the Road and Track package and assume it is just another RT Charger when actaully it is DAYTONA w/o the stickers being numbered. This was my first DODGE and I would swear by it. In all the cars I have had this is by far hands down the best one ever. The only reason I got rid of it was because the lease was going to expire while I am overseas for the next 4 months. Chrysler Fin was un-willing to work with me in regards to turning it after I got back ( MID April 09).

The Dodge dealer and Hyundai are combined where I live so I ventured over to check out a Genesis after I first saw the commercial during the Olympics. I was in AWWWWWW when I saw it in person for the first time. I said to myself and the salesperson that this is a "HYUNDAI" WOW. I did not buy my car until Mid Nov and it is currently just over a month old and has only 400 miles on it. OBTW White Pearl V6 with Tech Package, Tan leather with 35% Lumar Tint. It will sit in GARAGE from Jan - April, wife will start/ drive on occassion.

I am still feeling out the car and learning the tricks of the systems. Two major things I noticed is the ride is not as nealry as comfortable as my Charger ( Very Stiff). The stereo sounds awfull in FM and SATELLITE mode very flat. Boston Acoustics was in my Charger and it thumped well in any mode. The Lexicon is great when the CD/ DVD is playing though. So as I continue to drive and feel it out will update my experiences.

Check to see if your tires are properly inflated to the right pressures. Hyundai generally over-inflate their tires when shipping across oceans.

Mine (4.6 w/tech pkg) is replacing a Mercedes C230 Kompressor which I've owned for about two years (bought when I got tired of putting $70 worth of gas a week into my Lexus LS 400). Before that it was a Mercedes E400. This is my first Hyundai (though my brother had an orignal Exel ($4995) when we were kids. Went for the test drive expecting to be disappointed and was impressed instead.

Unfortunately, that's the result of the poor quality of the source material (FM, etc.).

Otoh, that's a reflection that the Gen has a kick-ass sound system.

In my rather modest sound system at home (modest compared to what typical audiophiles have) - some CDs sound horrible (a result of poorly recorded CDs).

Remember that the EQ settings are different for each mode. That is, you have to go in and set whatever EQ you want (pre-set, or custom) for each mode. Just because the CD sounds great (wider dynamic range) doesn't mean FM will unless it's a newer recording, and the EQ curve is set for it.

There are other threads elsewhere on this forum talking about this a little further.

I sold my 07 Saab 9-3 Aero in order to get the Genesis. I tried to trade it, but was offered ridicules amounts on trade ($12K to 15K) and ended up selling it to Carmax for $18.5K. It was a good car (made even more memorable by the Saab Academy down at Road Atlanta that came with the car), but I needed more room for the kids. My 2 year old kept kicking the back of the driver's seat which really got on my nerves. I will miss the driving experience of the Saab (stick and the more sporty feel), but other then that the Genesis has really grown on me over in the first 3 days of ownership. I can't believe for costing less then the Saab how much "nicer" the Genesis feels.

2001 Mercedes-Benz E320 with 115,000 miles on it. Genesis is more comfortable, and handles every bit as well, as the MBZ. Took one look at the $55K price on a new Mercedes and determined I really cared more about function than nameplate!

I just bought the V6 with the Tech Package. It's my Hyundai, i've had it for 2 days, and I'm loving it!
It replaced a 2006 Chrysler 300 Limited Touring.
I never did like the Chrysler as much in all 3 years I had it as I do the Genesis in my first 2 days!
The ride, the comfort, the luxury, man! I love this car. I'll check back in 6 months from now to see my level of satisfaction, but right now, loving it!

Just got my Genesis, a 3.8L Tech in Silver, 3 1/2 weeks ago. This was a Christmas treat for myself, to replace a 2004 BMW 325i with 43,000 miles on it.

This is the first Hyundai that I own under my name, and certainly the first US-market Hyundai in my immediate family. However, my father drove a 1979 Pony when he worked in South Korea, and I spent some time in it (though too young to drive it), so I am no stranger to Hyundai vehicles.

There had to be a perfect storm of several factors to get me to give up my Bimmer and get a Hyundai. But it did happen!

1. The BMW (even without sport package) was a performance car, not a luxury car. Too firm a ride, especially after an hour or two on the interstate. I needed more of a luxury ride that could still perform well, not a performance car.
2. I was really getting fed up with BMW AG, BMW North America, and the dealerships. I had already spent 1 1/2 years looking for a different manufacturer with a decent offering.
3. I somehow spent three months in Asia, mostly South Korea, toward the end of 2008. I was very impressed with the Korean people and their now-advanced society and economy. I've been having tons of problems with the massive Korean-American community in Los Angeles - fortunately, South Korea is a much better place.
4. Part of my sojourn in South Korea involved a 2,600-kilometer road trip in a 2006 Sonata. Great car, despite the high odometer reading (85,000 km). I had test-driven the 2006 Sonata and the 2006 Azera stateside as well, so I knew Hyundai cars were getting much better than before.
5. But most importantly, Hyundai outdid itself with the Genesis - an awesome car at a great price. Otherwise, the car swap would never have happened no matter what.

The good part is that I paid cash for the Genesis! Unfortunately, the money came from the savings that I had earmarked for a home down payment. But I do still have a good amount left, so I'll be back in the game before I know it. At least by the time I do buy a place, I won't have to deal with the electrical gremlins that German cars are infamous for (my 3-series was already having a few random, rare ignition "issues" that mechanics/dealerships can't replicate, but nevertheless had caused a misfire or two).

Hyundai still can't deliver BMW's brand cachet and razor-sharp performance. But the Genesis still handles more than well enough for my driving style, and as for the brand cachet - well, I'm so fed up with BMW at the corporate/dealership level that the BMW name is a huge negative to me now.

People do tell me that I could've kept the BMW (I could certainly afford to, even though I have no place to park it) and sold it at a slower pace, probably to an acquaintance, for a higher price. On the other hand, everyone loves my Genesis and finds it to be a pleasant surprise.

Funny story. My wife will NOT drive the Hyundai under any circumstances (she's a snob). We also just bought a 2007 CLK350 convertible that had only 6200 miles on it. The salesman had her drive an E550 (she drove like three new cars, including her fave: the CLS550, but it was $80K). After driving the E550, the salesman asked her what she thought. Her reply: "I hate to tell you this, but my husband's new Hyundai is WAY nicer than this Mercedes". His reply: "OUCH"!

I bought a 4.6L w/ Tech pkg (Titanium w/ black inside). LOVE IT!

2009 Lexus GS430 loaded with Mark Levinson, Navigation and factory 18" chrome wheels. car had 34.5K miles on it. While i loved everything about the car, specifically the Lexus experience at all departments within the dealership, I made the right decision to purchase a 4.6 with the Tech Pkg. I was in final negotiations to replace the GS with a Lexus LS460 L loaded. I'm an admitted car snob having only owned Lexus, BMW as well as my other car an MB convertible. While reading my car mags, article after article kept raving about the Genesis. One drive in the Genesis and I am now a member of the Genesis fan club. After two weeks now, I find myself going on about this car to anyone who will listen. Just today, I took a work buddy who has a new 750IL for a spin and he was blown away. I describe this car as an LS460L with a $30K discount. I can't wait for the next generation to come out with the blown V8!

I traded a 2006 BMW 330i for the V8 with Tech Titanium Grey. I really like the car. The fit and finish are second to none compared to the 330i.

We all know the positives so I am going to focus on the minor negatives.

General Negatives after 24 hours-
1. My street is not on the NAV map. It should have been included because it was on Mapquest in 2007.
2. Interior lighting just comes on (like a camera flash) when you open the door as you exit the vehicle. Very cheap looking and almost blinding.
3. iPod Cable-Great, but its hard to store my iPhone in the top or bottom of the tray with the cable connected. This is minor.
4. Nav reflection at night in the front windshield is very annoying
5. Phonebook-Must manually enter all names. Only shows number which these days is pointless. Plus you only get 200 entries. Each number type (home, work, fax) counts as 1 entry. Inexcusable especially with a hard drive.
6. Wood on steering wheel is cold and annoying. Please make it leather, thicker, and heated next time

Driving Negatives compared to BMW-
1. The steering wheel is not as responsive as the BMW. Steering feels too lose.
2. I really miss the manual transmission! Steptronic is decent though. Paddle shifters would be a positive.
3. The BMW clearly drives better in my opinion, but this is a much more luxurious and comfy ride
4. Side seat bolsters would be nice
