  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis USA website update?

I thought I started a thread about the poorly executed website and instead I found out it was a stupid topic that I should only be able to talk about if I have a solution. I also read some very good advise about what I should and shouldn't spend my time worrying about, because its just a waste of time.

As for Genesis listening, I am skeptical because it is not fixed yet and I really expected this thread to grab their attention. On the other hand, when the website is fixed I am taking all the credit for getting the ball rolling!!!

Just don't expect to much. Keep in mind, your expectations and Genesis's are probably far apart. Just be patient and watch, things will change.

Not particularly interested in the personal attacks on other forum members, however entertaining they might be. Am somewhat interested in what’s behind the apparent ineptitude of an organization that’s demonstrated brilliance in developing enormously complex products but can’t seem to handle getting the “build & price” function working on their website. Doesn’t smell right.

I experienced similar repeated delays, confusion, excuses and unfulfilled promises when trying to buy a G90 at the end of 2016. Took almost 4 months and 3 different dealers to get the car I wanted. Coincidence? One of the principals in one of those dealerships suggested that the scarcity might not be accidental. People tend to want what they cannot have so scarcity can be an effective product introduction strategy (see iPhone). Also, many say there’s no such thing as bad publicity.

My guess is that Genesis (Hyundai) planned a scarce rollout of the G70 and then ran into unanticipated problems when they tried to ram the exclusive dealer model down the throats of all the Hyundai dealers. Many dealers were able to use the multitude of different state laws and regulations to block Hyundai’s plan. Untangling the legal mess has undoubtably interfered with the rollout schedule since presumably, they were prohibited from shipping product to dealers without valid renegotiated dealer agreements. Hence the current chaos.

As for the corporate website, maybe that’s a timing issue. Wait until sufficient product is deliverable in enough locations before turning on that demand enhancer?

Those are my wild guesses. What are yours?

Good an explanation as any. They have new models across the line coming out and still want to get rid of the 2018. Let people configure them while they stock up. Then you put the new system up for all models.

I’ve never owned a business nor been a CEO of a business, but where I live, the strategy of BMW, Audi, Mercedes appears to be to put lots of cars in their dealerships and to sell them to as many people as possible. They didn’t get the scarcity memo. It seems to be working.

BMW US Sales in Sept 2018: 29,459
Genesis US Sales in Sept 2018: 419

Good point but it seems the legal snafus are probably the main reason for declining Genesis sales. I didn’t realize it, but they actually stopped importing ALL Genesis vehicles in the Spring of 2018. Here’s one of their press releases:

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Sept. 4, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Genesis Motor America today reported sales of 613 in August, a 66 percent decrease compared with the prior year. While planning to transition to a smaller retail network, importation of model year 2018 vehicles was stopped in the spring. This retail result stems from a significant lack of inventory.

Wards has a much better explanation of the Genesis scarcity issue than mine:

DETROIT – The continuing U.S. launch of Hyundai’s Genesis luxury brand kicks into a new gear this fall, as the first steps toward a realigned dealer network gain traction.

Genesis was born three years ago, its cars greeting shoppers in special cordoned-off sections of Hyundai showrooms.

But the ’19 model year marks the start of a new direction in which current franchise holders must sign new agreements to continue to sell Genesis vehicles. The strategy is designed to raise brand awareness, distance Genesis from Hyundai in the minds of buyers, provide customers with a better ownership experience and improve profit margins for its remaining dealers.

Currently, 850 Hyundai retailers are licensed to sell Genesis, but that is expected to drop to about 400 once the herd is culled over the next six months. Even that doesn’t go far enough to perfectly position the brand for success, executives say, and the network is projected to shrink further in coming years.

“Four hundred is still higher than what is ideal,” admits Genesis Executive Director Erwin Raphael, on hand here for a media backgrounder on the new G70 sport sedan, the smallest and most nimble of the cars in the Genesis lineup.

“I think (ultimately) that will come down,” he adds, noting that given expected volumes, some of those remaining dealers will not be able to operate profitably. “It just doesn’t compute to 400.”

The process of reselecting dealers is a complicated one, and the job isn’t expected to be completed until late February.

Genesis is in the midst of applying to each U.S. state for the right to license franchisees separate from Hyundai, a task that should be wound up by the end of the year. So far, the brand has secured licenses in about 40 of the 50 states.

Once it has a license, it can make offers to dealers in that state to sign new franchise agreements. Current dealers have two options: Ink the new deal or take a cash buyout based on their past sales performance. At the point the contract is offered, current franchise holders have 30 days to make a final decision, but all already have a clear understanding of the buyout terms. More than half are expected to opt out.

Those who do agree to the new franchise terms must apply to their state for a dealer license.

So far this year, U.S. retailers have had to grit their teeth through the tough transitionary period. Genesis sales plummeted sharply after imports were halted in March as the automaker looked to clear inventories ahead of the relaunch. Raphael says there now is a less-than 30-day supply of cars on hand. In August, Genesis sales totaled only 613 units, and through the first eight months volume reached just 8,480 units, down 36.4% from like-2017, according to Wards Intelligence data.

Only dealers who re-up their franchise agreements will receive ʼ19 models, with shipments expected to begin to a handful of retailers this month, when Raphael says the brand’s sales should begin to rebound.

“By the end of the year, we will be hitting on all cylinders,” he promises.

Genesis would like dealers that stick with the brand to set up stand-alone showrooms, but it is not required and not all are expected to make the investment. Raphael says the first dedicated stores should begin to appear within a couple of years.

“I would like them all to be exclusive (showrooms),” he says. “We won’t be able to deliver the (customer) experience without it.”

The new showroom design template still is being finalized, he says, but dealers who opt to add the stand-alone showrooms will not be forced to meet a specific minimum investment target.

“We have no dollar (requirement),” Raphael says, adding Genesis may offer incentives to some dealers to build showrooms in key markets.

The G80 and G90 are competitive with BMW but the brand, as a whole, just isn't ready yet. BMW has a full portfolio of vehicles it's been developing and selling for decades. Even if Genesis had a competing vehicle for every segment that BMW is already in - there'd be no reason to assume it would even be close as far as sales go. There's just too much history and too many past BMW customers to compete with. Hyundai/Genesis has no issue with trailing BMW in the sales department. Their mission is to offer a similar product at a better price to grow their business into the future. Things will brighten up for Genesis once their CUVs are available - as that's the hottest selling segment in the market these days.

Very true - tough to compete with sedans only these days.

It's nice to finally see the price and feature breakdown (e.g. Burgundy is available O_O), and the guide showing your local Genesis dealers is definitely welcomed. Maybe that's why this took so long lol. Not sure how accurate it is for dealerships that are continuing with Genesis, since a salesman at one of the listed dealerships said they weren't going forward with Genesis. The trim builder has some errors though:

- All trims display the darkened headlights that are exclusive to the Sport trim
- Non-Sport trims have the bottom lip trim colored in a chrome that matches the grille, when it's actually a dark grey plasticy color in actuality
- Dynamic has a slightly different headlight look for some reason?
- Accessories like mud guard and wheel locks don't show up
- You can't rotate the exterior
- The interior view is a joke

It's a good first step, but considering this should've been available months ago, it's really weak. Between the issues with dealerships, state licensure, and the configurator, the delays aren't bad luck one-offs or isolated incidents.

I'm most disappointed that: 1) brown interior is not available; 2) I cannot figure out what rims I'll get with each trim. But it entertained me for a good 10 minutes 😭

The wheels change with the trim when you pick the exterior.

It looks like Adavnced are 20 spoke; Elite, Prestige and Dynamic are 10 spoke and Sport are 5 spoke.

You are correct, weirdly I only saw the 10 spoke rims for all trims when I saw it last night but now I can see the changes. I hope these are the final decisions, as the 3.3T awd prestige I test drove had the 20 spoke. Still the dark 20 spoke looked good esp when it contrasted with the white exterior.

I wouldn't trust for what they are showing now. This is their disclaimer:

Good eye!

Interesting for sure. I notice only two Genesis dealers for greater Chicago (at least so far). My dealer is one of them thank goodness.

Still stuff missing.
The Promotional page is missing the G70.
As mentioned...no 360° view of the exterior or interior.
Comparing of vehicle with other brands not working.
No info on 2019 G80 or G90.
The Schedule a Test drive should state any distance limits. Will they come to my house 100 miles away to give me a test drive?
No downloadable brochure/spec sheet.
Also...the satellite dealer Genesis sites have no mention of the G70 (other than inventory if they have em). A select few have hacked their site to show the G70...but it is random and usually looks awful.

They have had months to get this stuff going.

We have G70s on lots, G70 commercials, when is Genesis USA going to acknowledge that they have 2019 automobiles?

Even if they don't have them in all states, you'd think they would want to let people know they will be selling 2019's, G70s or the others.
Hyundai's website is BAD. When I bought a 2019 Santa Fe, I was waiting for the 2.0T engine, Ultimate trim. You couldn't even build/spec it on their webpage. I had one purchased off the lot before they changed it. Bad marketing. PRE-SELL the product for God's sake.
