  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Wing Emblem Installation Process

Everyone writes how easy it is...but my H seems to be stuck extra tight. I'll try again and maybe use a hair dryer to heat it before trying to pull it free. I don't want to scratch the finish taking off the emblem.

Just remember you cannot pull the emblem off. You must use a strong dental floss or fine fishing line to cut through the adhesive tape that holds the emblem on.
How are you liking your 2012?

HEAT is your friend for sure in removal!

My flying H came off in pieces. I could never have removed it without heat from a blow dryer. Then I used a semi hard plastic scraper to pry it off. Took about 20 minutes for the whole process.

I sprayed WD-40 and let is soak for about 10 minutes, then it peeled right off.

Dubai I like the idea of the WD40! Next time I'll use the heat first (faster) and if it doesn't give I'll try the WD. MHT I LOVE THE 2012! For me the 2010 I owned was nearly an ideal car but just this side of too stiff/firm riding. As I've written before the new 2012 rides as if someone found a "tautness" lever and turned it down two clicks from the previous years. The same nice firmeness on level surfaces but the reaction to the odd pot hole, expansion joint, lane divider or whatever has been tamed. AND AND I do believe that there is a touch more padding in the seats because they feel more comfortable. Could be that the seats feel better because the suspension firmness has been decreased. I am really happy with the car!!!

I got my nose badge installed yesterday on my pearl white 2012 and it looks great. I have not replaced the "Lazy Flying H" yet, but removed the tabs on the KDM logo anyways, though I do not know if the KDM badge fits in the trunk holes, if any trunk holes exist on the 2012...

Anyways, I have a 2012 with tech/prem pkg so what wheel emblems/steering wheel emblem/badges do I need?

Hey QuantumRift,

Be sure you don't have your front and back badges mixed up.

The front badge is bigger and that's the one that needs the tabs filed down so you can stick it above your grille. To match the badge style of the Korean model Genesis that has two holes drilled in the hood, you will want to center your larger wing emblem approximately 15/16ths of an inch above the grille. Don't drill into your hood.

When you take off the Hyundai "H" badge on the trunk, you will see two holes in your trunk lid that exactly match the rear badge. So, for that one, no need to file down the tabs. The rear badge is slightly smaller than the front one.

For wheel badges, you will want ones that fit the center of the 18" wheels that come with your Genesis Premium/Tech. You have two choices and can find images of each here on the forum. Most prefer the style that let's the "points" of your spokes show fully. It matches the ones currently on your car, replacing the "H" logo with the wing. That's more expensive unless you put these together yourself, which is not too difficult. Do some searching on the site and you'll find mucho info and images, too.

Heat was the answer! I've had the winged badge for months and thought why not be proud of the H and leave it. I must say that since replacing the H and appling the Genesis badge I really like the look of the wings. Pictures don't do justice to the winged badge. It is really quite attractive

No kidding. :) Sometimes you just have to go for it with all the advice on this forum!
It really is a totally different look, the way it should have been in the first place.

Thanks, yea I got the BIG wing on the front nose...I just removed the tabs on both of them at the same time with my Dremel, not thinking about the rear holes. I'll just plug it with some RTV when I put the read emblem on. Thx for the info on the 18" wheels. I'll post a pic when I get one done.

Yea. If you don't like the wings in front then you can always put them on a chain and wear them as bling. Lol.

Yep, that's the one, and it's at a good price unless you want to craft them yourself. Super easy to install. You have to take out take out that cover to get to the lug nuts when changing a tire. Just use the tool that comes with the spare. Simple.

I sprung for these covers, too, and it really completes the rebadging "makeover." Be careful of all of those annoying babes wanting to hang all over your car when the job is complete. . . And rubberneckers can cause accidents, so do be careful!

I assume this is what you are referring to as "letting the points" show..

wow. They are not cheap, eh?

I've not had the opportunity to remove the wheels or caps (yet). How difficult is it to replace the caps? I would guess it's a "no-brainer"... ??

You can actually just replace the center part of the actuall center cap. Got mine off ebay for $20, but it looks as if they went up to around $40 or so. Grab a heat gun or hair dryer and it takes about 20 minutes.

Point me in the right direction, will ya (eBay, that is, what vendor in eBay is selling them)....post a pic of yours..

I wasn't sure I could do this myself so I called a dealership in Arlington, TX that will do it but they wanted $40 for the emblem and $70 to install so I went ahead and ordered the emblem from ebay. I used the "Glide" dental floss to remove the dealership "tag" and it was really easy. When I started to remove the "H" the glue was more difficult but after about 3 yards of dental floss I was able to remove it and used GooGone to get rid of the adhesive sticking to the car.

No one should pay a dealership those crazy prices and do this yourself. I can barely change a roll of toilet paper and was able to do this without any problems.

two thumbs up!

After I shaved off the center posts, cut two circles of sticky tape and put that in the middle to give some extra stick. So essentially you put two large dots in there so they sitck to what's left of the posts, pull the tape of those, then remove the tape of the rest of the emblem and stick it in place.
