  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Great news: Android auto -- call your dealer!!!!

Just called my local dealer and they don't have Android Auto and have no news about when it will arrive. He sounded surprised when I told him that I heard it was available.

I doubt this is available yet given that Hyundai hasn't announced it on social media like they did when it came out for the Sonata recently.

Exactly my moms 2014 Mazda 3 has this feature as well!!

So if you have iPhone, you can use the Siri Eyes Free by holding down the Voice recognition button for 8 seconds. Then you can ask it about just recieved text messages! But not sure about Android. Very cool if Android auto is coming, maybe carplay wont be far behind? ;)

the lack of text msg bugs me. My 2013 ES350 had a feature where it would read the text msg's to me, and if i was stopped, i could actually see the text on the screen.

My 2015 Ultimate will read and send texts (and emails) with Siri Eyes Free if you have a compatible iPhone...and you only have to hold the voice button for ~ 2 seconds - not 8!!

Does compatible in this case mean an iPhone 6? I have a fully updated iPhone 5 - waiting till about Sept. when hopefully the new 6S will drop to update - and never had it announce/read or send a text? In fact, the fact I cannot DICTATE into an app as the bluetooth will automatically open Siri - to do what I'm not sure - and no words appear on the screen annoys the heck out of me.

Seems like the OP was click bait. Dont know why he/she did that!!!

Sorry, folks. Forget what I said. Don't call your dealer -- at least not your CAR dealer. I was frustrated when I saw posts of people saying their dealers (that's "car" dealers) didn't have any on the update for Android Auto, despite what I had been told by that guy Steve, the team leader for the Premium Group (per my original post which started this thread), so I contacted Ricky Lao, the guy from the product development team who gave me good information before and asked him to finally clarify the information -- and the news is not all good. This is what he just wrote to me:

Thank you for the email. Yes, unfortunately, there’s been some confusion within our call center regarding Android Auto. Let me set the record straight. We’ve also corrected this information with our call center staff so that they are providing the correct information.

Here’s the current situation:

· Android Auto has only been announced for and started production on the 15MY Sonata with 8” NAV

· Yes, dealers have received the Android Auto update for 15MY Sonata with 8” NAV (beginning May 26th) à This is for Sonata only.

· There has been no final release or decision for either 8” or 9.2” NAV for Genesis à Sorry, the information provided to you was incorrect. I apologize for that since I know you’ve been diligently waiting for official word from Hyundai.

When the decision is made/finalized for Genesis regarding Android Auto and Car Play, you will definitely be one of the first people I will contact.

Thanks again for your patience and understanding!

Best Regards,

Ricky

The fact that a final decision has not been made as to whether those of us who are Genesis owners will even get the update is worrisome. I wrote him back and told him, I hope they do go with the decision to update the Genesis or there would be a LOT of pissed off owners who have been eagerly awaiting this update and think it is unfair that the Sonata owners got it and those of us in the luxury end might not. I would suggest we start an e-mail campaign to Ricky Lao (Rlao@hmausa.com) to demand the upgrade for the Genesis and perhaps threaten to switch to another manufacturer for the next purchase/lease to get Hyundai to do this. They seem to be very interested in consumer feedback.

Thanks for the update. This is definitely upsetting. I know they are trying to quickly please the masses but lets not leave the luxury owners hanging!!!

It seems their dev team isnt all that great. Everything between the budget ios/android apps to missing tech car features. I still love the car though!!!

I also reached out to Ricky Lao and this is the response that I received:

Hi Mr. Evans,

Thank you for your email. I’m glad to hear that you are enjoying your Genesis. I can definitely understand the excitement and enthusiasm around the possibility of Android Auto / Car Play.

To set the record straight, we have:
· Announced and deployed in production Android Auto for 15MY Sonata with 8” NAV system

· Dealers have received Android Auto updates for 15MY Sonata with 8” NAV system (for 15MY cars produced prior to the Android Auto rollout from the factory) à This only applies to 15MY Sonata.

· There has been no announcements or timing of implementation made for other Hyundai models, including Genesis

As I mentioned to other Genesis owners, please stay tuned until we have an official announcement. Rumors are just rumors until then! Thank you for joining the Genesis family and I appreciate your patience and understanding on this matter.

Best Regards,
Ricky

I read this not as being that they having made a final decision as to whether the Genesis will get the update (they DID announce at the North American International Auto Show in January that all 2015 Sonatas, Azeras and Genesis would get Android Auto), but rather they just have not finalized on the timing. Working for a technology company myself, I can totally relate to this. We often will commit to the concept, but engineering commit in terms of timing is a completely different thing.

A small update. Just heard back from the Customer Connect Center. Here is the relevant snippet from their note:

"Thank you for contacting Hyundai Genesis Customer Care Center. We would like to congratulate you on your new 2015 Genesis. We are also very excited to see Android Auto become available for our vehicles and are happy to provided more information for this feature.

At this moment Android Auto is only available for the 2015 Sonata. It has not yet been released for any other vehicle. We are currently working on other vehicles that have the same Navi system as the Sonata. Those include Genesis (Standard AVN 4.0), Veloster, Elantra GT, Sonata HEV and Azera. More models and trim levels will be added when the Display Audio system launches. We will have news of the display Audio System launch this summer. "

So, as I so often tell my customers who ask about a new software feature, "It's coming, but so is Christmas". We'll just have to be patient.

Thanks for the update. What is the "Display Audio System"? Is this bad news for us 9.2" screen users?

The DAS is an entirely new platform that will be the standard for the 2016 and above models allowing Hyundai to bring Android Auto and Car Play to the whole fleet. I think those of us who have the standard 8" DIS are in good shape since it is the same system as on the Sonata, but unfortunately this doesn't bode well for the folks with the 9.2" system in the Ultimate.

I have a 2015 Sonata with the 8” display that has Android Auto loaded (recently by dealer). It’s nice but not life changing. The significance of it is as far as the Genesis is concerned if I had to do it all over again and knew that I couldn’t get Android Auto on it I would still pick the Genesis Ultimate with the 9” display. It’s just that good.

I highly doubt it. We know the Equus will have the 9.2" LG-produced navigation system, like in the Genesis Ultimate. There's no way that the flagship vehicles of the company would be left out. Now getting the software upgrades released at the same time across the board is another story...

While I do not have an Ultimate, I hope that is true as I think that those who paid for an upgraded system should reap the benefits of new technology. That said, strange things happen in the car business. While not a 1:1 comparison, you can go spend $150,000 on a gorgeous Maserati Gran Turismo that has an infotainment system circa 2008 or you can spend $80,000 on a Maserati Ghibli that uses the UConnect system straight out of a $25,000 Chrysler with all the bells and whistles.

My big concern is that Hyundai will dodge the non-Ultimate Genesis to keep the Ultimate buyers at bay. That will suck.

Not exactly a fair comparison as you're talking about 2 different Maseratis, one of which was in development before the Ghibli was.

Folks, just a small update. I received a reply from Miles Johnson, Manager of Connected Care Publicity yesterday evening. He writes:

"Ed,

We will have news related to Android Auto on Genesis with fourth generation navigation later this year and we plan to update existing customer vehicles once it is available.

Miles"

So, not much more information there other than another confirmation that they do intend to update the existing gen 4 nav systems with Android Auto which is good news. I have replied to him and asked for more specific timeframe, but that is usually when the Hyundai folks stop replying in my experience so far.
