If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV70 - honest discussion

Hi all. I thought I would ask here before starting my open thread to ask a somewhat silly question. I've been searching for a new car for over year now. I currently own a Ford Explorer and it is great for carrying people and cargo, but it's no fun to drive. My wife has a Audi S4 which I love to drive and zip around in, but I need a little more space. I've considered everything from an Audi SQ5, Audi A7, Ford Explorer ST and Lincoln Aviator (going more luxury instead of fun to drive).

I have seen a few GV70's on the road but I have been able to find one on a car lot within 200 miles of me, they all sell before I can get to the dealership. Because I cannot find a GV70 on a lot, I have been unable to see/feel the rear cargo space. I know all the specs for the cargo space, but specs are one thing and how the space can be used is another. Ultimately all I care about is how a set of golf clubs fit in the cargo space. I know, it's silly. But 7 months out of the year my golf clubs are a permeant fixture in my trunk/cargo space and it's important to me the gear fits. My Ford Explorer purchase was made because the golf clubs could fit in the cargo space of the Ford Explorer length-wise or width.

I am well aware the GV70 has far less cargo space than the Explorer, but I was curious if any GV70 owner who is also a golf could chime in with their thoughts and possibly even share a pic of a set of clubs in the cargo space. I'm hopeful the GV70 has enough cargo space for the clubs and can provide a little more fun while driving than a full sized SUV.

Thanks in advance!
Don’t forget a cargo shade! I’ve always been cautious with tempting a person from walking by and getting evil thoughts about my clubs When I own a suv.

Thank you very much @vin0770!!!! That is exactly what I was hoping for. Puts my mind at ease that I can make the GV70 work.

Thank you again!

I bought a house instead. Or should I say I'm buying a house. I'll reassess after it's done. My G70 has very few miles on it so I can wait. Probably wait for the car market to get better.
Smart man…interest rates are good for that too 👍🏻

Hi, I just bought the 3.5T sport prestige, my golf clubs and push cart fit. I went from a Toyota avalon and a BMW M2, now one vehicle, the GV70. It handles quite well, as soon as I find lowering springs I will have them installed.

Thanks. I have a cart bag and normally have about 2-3 pairs of shoes and a hat caddy. Based on the photo shared about and your comment about a bag and push cart I feel very confident the GV70 has enough room for my needs. Now I'm just dying to find one to drive it. And to hopefully see the blue interior for myself before I settle on that color. I like the red, but my wife said "no chance." :(

These are not golf clubs but the Autoblog article might still prove helpful:

Thank you. The reason I ask specifically about golf clubs and bag is because of the length and diameter. The difference between rectangular shapes and golf bags is more than I would imagine. Some cargo areas have a lot of volume for square type shapes. While others have smaller volumes but because of how the space is divided a golf bag fits great. For instance in my wife's S4 there is a cubby area behind the passenger side wheel. Looking at the measurements of the trunk space of the S4 I would make the assumption golf clubs and a bag do not fit. But if you put the club heads in first to that cubby space and then sit the rest of the bag down into the truck there is actually a lot of room for the bag, clubs and shoes. But when I try to get two carry-on bags and two backpacks into the trunk of the S4 I need a Masters degree in mathematics and physics to get it to fit. :)

🙂

If you need space for two golf bags, is it correct to assume that only two people are going golfing, and that the back seat is not used and could be folded in the worst-case scenario...?

I saw the trunk in person, I currently have a current-gen hybrid Rav4 and am waiting for the electric GV70, and the trunk 28cf) was clearly smaller than in the Rav4 (38cf), while cabin space was almost identical. The trunk seemed a few inches less wide and less deep, so I guess about 6cf goes missing there while the other 4cf is due to the slopier roofline. When going to the cottage I fill only the lowest part of the trunk, never all the way up to the roof, and figured that should still fit my needs, if a bit tighter.

Folding the rear seats down is an option. Ideally I would like to be able to have one set of clubs, some golf shoes and the rear seats available for other passengers. Ultimately I will go to the dealership and see how it drives and how things fit in the cargo space. I appreciate everyones help and sharing to confirm a set of golf clubs will fit. That help allows me to continue down the path of trying to find one of these unicorns on a lot make the final decision if I will purchase.

Wishing your wait for the electric GV70 goes by quickly and you're able to source a GV70 fast.

Thanks again everyone!!

Thanks, regarding the electric GV70 I'm not very optimistic of getting one before fall 2022, I first need a 3 feet deep and 40 feet long trench dug to install electric chargers at the condo (Spring 2022), then a charger at the cottage (Simpler, stuck to the house, probably Summer 2022), and since that version of the car should be unveiled in November but sales starting in 2022, I expect a long waiting time before I get my hands on one...

You know that’s a big a$$ cart bag in the pictures I sent you. Plenty of room for the other stuff you’re looking to add…seats up.

Just wait six months, the chip shortages will be over and they will be discounting these as they sit on dealer lots. Got to be nuts to pay msrp or more. With the very high money factor on the new genesis models, leasing these is insanely expensive.
6 months eh? Aged like milk

Way more than 6 months I was in the computer industry for 40 years. 1-2 years maybe.

genesis gv70 motor trend suv of the year,,,dealer by me was charging sticker ,,now 2 grand over
Thank goodness we have none of that gouging BS here in Canada. Dealers charge MSRP, plus about 130 in legit provincial/federal fees, and that's it.

Totally agree. When analysts and semiconductor manufacturers were predicting some easing in late 2022 or 2023, it was prior to Ukraine/Russia conflict. Key components used in semiconductors come from those two countries. So, my prediction.....easily into 2023, and probably 2024. Add more mishaps, like the fire in chip fab in Japan, or the freak weather in Texas that shut down production, and the shortage will extend even longer. And demand for chips is not going down. I hope I am proved wrong.

Personal take: The two spoke steering wheel doesn't bother me. The cars design is impeccable inside and out. BUT... whoever is designing the wheels for these should find another job, perhaps at Nissan. They went to great pains to make the car rounded, smooth, and shapely, then add either the edgy "Which way am I going" Hyundai leftover wheels on the Advanced or the "Hey, lets go to Waffle House" 5 spoke on the Sport. Why they couldn't have used a stylish multi spoke wheel (like they install on the G70) that would make more of a sport luxury statement?

Another article today warning about chip shortage, and it's going to get worse as a result of Ukraine situation.

I like the following from that article...

"Toshiba admits that at some point, customers would have to “share the burden” because, financially speaking, companies out there can’t cover the price increases entirely."

I don't disagree with that statement. The problem is with the dealers. Many are fully taking advantage.
