  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV80 Pricing (USA) Revealed

Yeah, no. Both the 2.5T and 3.5T Prestige on the pricing guide and configurator say that the extra features will be added onto the "Advanced" package, not the "Advanced+" which comes with the third row. There is nothing on paper that says the 3.5T Prestige will have a third row in its US configuration, despite having a 3rd row in car shows.

At some point you just need to man up and admit when you are wrong. Given your brief history here it seems like it is a very frequent occurrence so you would think you would be used to it by now. ;)

Well, I'd like it if you could show me where any piece of information on the Genesis site or paper says that you can configure the 3.5T Prestige with the Advanced+ package for the third row. ;)

Nothing on the spec sheets says the Prestige trims of either the 2.5 or 3.5 will have a third row. This is a fact.

LOL Meaningless to the discussion of the 2.5T.

Almost as meaningless as the 2k pricetag that still puts a lesser equipped (compared to the Genny) GLE350 without a third row at 70k+.

Don't see an issue w/ that.

A loaded Telluride is more a competitor to the RX than the GV80.

Genesis' intent was always to offer a lower-priced alternative to MB and BMW, not compete directly w/ the FWD-CUVs from the Japanese (eventually, the GV80 will be discounted; so better to base things off MSRP and for the RX it's $56k CAD).

Doesn't the Aviator start at around $69k CAD?
Nope. In Canada Genesis is one price - no negotiations / discounts. So it's 65K GV80 (no discount) vs 51K RX Base (5K discount).

This isn't on their build site and very wall around video of the GV80 did not have the power 2nd row seat function so guess we'll see.
Can't speak for the US except the press release. In Canada it's on the released PDF brochure, so if we get it, I bet you get it.

It's only "consistent" in that Genesis hasn't brought any 2.5T models to any shows yet, we've only been seeing the 3.5T prestige. None of the spec sheets indicate the 3.5T Prestige will have a 3rd row either. It's still up in the air.

It is no longer a question, the third row is only available in the Advanced+ package as shown on the website and the Pricing press release. I emailed Kevin and it turns out the vehicles at the Auto show were pre-production and fitted with the third row just to show the options.

Thanks for reaching out to them. Extremely bizarre decision that will result in Canadians and Americans trying their best to swap their respective versions of GV80 3.5T Prestige models across the border just for the sake of seats. I don't envy the Hyundai dealer that has to justify to their prospective buyers as to why the top-of-the-line GV80 can't have a third row while the Palisade 20k less can.

Guess we'll just have to wait til the summer since Genesis themselves can't give a consistent explanation.

YW. He is a good guy and always tries to provide me with information when possible. If the dealers would have his professionalism Genesis would be sitting pretty.

Must be 0 to 60 times and mpg due to extra weight. What else could it be?

I'm not buying that "weight-related" excuse when the Canadians get the 3rd row with the trim. Most realistically, it's a cost-saving measure. Again, Genesis and its dealers are not being consistent.

That brings up a good question, what version/trim of a vehicle do they use for the EPA and 0-60 testing? I was under the impression they only need to do one test per vehicle/engine combination and they always use the lowest, least optioned, model since it is the lightest.

I can't think of a good weight related reason either. I was leaning towards it being more of a demand and inventory issue. In other words, they didn't want to make all Prestige models have the third row since many customers looking at that level would not want a third row. Given that, then in order to offer it at the Prestige level they would have to offer it as an option which would mean producing versions with and without the third row and carrying that inventory at ports. I would imagine they did some demand forecasting and decided that would not be a profitable way to go.

Perfect.. with Genesis resale values I'll be looking to get a 3.5T Prestige in 3 years ~30k miles for low to mid 30's.

Since it's an SUV, I don't think it will depreciate to that extent. And I can only see Genesis resale values climbing as it builds more clout. Even now, the 2017 G90's resale price (~35k for a base 3.3T with ~40,000 miles) isn't much lower than similar mileage Lexus LS 460's from that time (which were originally more expensive vehicles to begin with).

The GV80 is $5k to $10k on avg cheaper than the GLE, X5 and Q7. To expect more is devaluing the brand, especially since they did a great job introducing the brand with the G80 Sport and G70. There is nothing to gain by being $15k cheaper for a vehicle that’s on par.

Site the case where a company has entered a luxury segment in any market being seen as “the value” luxury brand and succeeded in the long term? You can be seen as another option to the established brands in a luxury segment, a “cool” alternative luxury brand...but not the “value” brand.

The Palisade isn’t in the same league as the GV80, if you’re considering that then the GV80 won’t be seen as value...to you. The GV80 competes against the X5, Q7, GLE...and the overall market would never think of cross shopping those with the Palisade. The thing is, the GV80 has a great value proposition, it’s cheaper than the Germans and on par in every respect...if you’re willing to set aside the whole “established” brand mind set. Which has no actual value in real world use.
Lexus! They entered tin 1989 and blew up the lux market. They were so far ahead of the competition on the Price/Feature scale that they were the VALUE buy.

The XT5 isn't selling 10k units per month on A FWD platform.

In 2017 when the XT5 was the 2nd best-selling lux model (after the RX), the XT5 did 68k in sales compared to 108k for the RX.

68k isn't really close to 108k, but still, that isn't bad for what is a damaged brand.

While it's no-haggle pricing, Genesis doesn't lower the price/add incentives when it's the end of MY?

Scion and certain Lexus dealerships offered no-haggle pricing, but the incentives changed depending on time of year, switchover to an all new model, etc.

Typically 1K.

One time it was 5K off a G80. But that was end of year with almost no stock left Nationwide and only two colors like red and black or something.

The rates usually go from 2.9 down to 1.4 though, which is a good amount of savings on an 84 mth finance option.
