  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis GV80 won't save their fool lives withOUT their seat belts on. I suppose it's not cool to roll being secure.

something must have changed on this website as I no longer see videos on any of my Mac devices. It just says video unavailable with a black screen. This is also happening on older videos posted here. I’m thinking something to do with this site and safari. I can see YouTube videos on YouTube through safari.

I was trying to see if I could just put the link to the video in incase anyone else cannot see the video but it keeps changing it to embedding the video instead of just the link even when I use the "add link" button.

So what are they talking about being able to move the car with voice? Never heard of such a thing.

Not sure what Genesis maintenance will eventually be though.

Well, we are all in that same boat right now, aren't we? I'm not going to lie. I get in mine every day, marvel over all the chips, the software, the tech.... then say, "all this cool new sh*t is gonna cost me a lot of money and/or aggravation one day." So, my cup is half full and I hate it. I hope we are driving these things for 100,000 miles. But, sadly, I'm not feeling it. Plus, (sorry so negative) we're dealing with a bunch of Hyundai dealerships/sales staff/mechanics. Nice folks, but they aren't used to dealing with a bunch of demanding luxury car customers who can shell out $60,000-plus for a car. We'll see.

Ditto, just traded in my 18 Macan S for a GV80. The Macan was great, we enjoyed it for 3 years, one 3,400 mile road trip, but we needed something larger, and while the Cayenne may be sportier, to get anything even close to the way the GV is equipped was an additional 30 to 40k. Now we're enjoying the GV.
I understand the foo foo factor of the GV, but why do people not go for the loaded Palisade? Bigger for sure and a very elegant well appointed car. Seen 60K + on GVs with 4cyl engines and a lower price on a V6 Palisade. Just curious about going towards the GV.

Palisades was a bit too large for our taste, and the GV was far more technical marvel. Besides, we are used to having an AWD that's rear wheel biased. Just handles a lot better. Another element in the decision was purely esthetic, we liked the looks better. I will grant that there is some "snob" appeal to having a more luxury appointed vehicle too.

I swapped a loaded Palisade for my GV80. The Palisade is undoubtedly a teriffic vehicle and doesn’t have to apologize for anything - it’s a great package for the money. It could easily wear the Genesis badge. However, the GV80 is just up another level in attention to detail to the point that it’s worth the jump if those small details are important to you. It really feels special, at least to me. Of course, YMMV. :) BTW, the driving experience of rwd/awd, and the big twin turbo V-6 is a major incentive for parting with a few more bucks, too.

I did look at the Palisade but the dash is very high leaving a slot like windshield. I knew my wife wouldn't even sit in it, let alone drive it. We both like big windows and the GVs are definitely as small as we would want.

Twolf, we are all offering our opinions. And everyone seems to have looked at/considered the Palisade (me included). FINE VEHICLE!

Personally.... I wanted a bit more zoom. Even the GV80 4-cylinder has better 0-60 than the 6-cylinder Palisade. For me, the technology was important, and there's no debate there (GV80 wins). For me, the Palisade was a bit big (I also own a large Lexis SUV and I'm out of the 3rd-row seat market, but need some SUV storage in my daily driver). But most importantly...... Each vehicle has its own target market, based on styling, etc. Given it's styling, finish.... I consider the Palisade a 'soccer mom' car. Forget price, the GV80 is clearly designed for a more luxury, sporter buyer (competing more directly with BMW, Benz, Lexis....). In your words, "the foo foo factor" is important. Price, at this level, not so much.

Then, being honest, there's the whole badging issue ('Hyundai' vs 'Genesis').

For me, it wasn't money that was the driving factor, it was the aesthetics. I simply didn't like the look of the Palisade's exterior - so a purely subjective decision. A friend of mine has one and it's a great vehicle, just not to my taste. The other factors that I learnt about later that others here have already mentioned - RWD platform, etc. - clinched it for me. The other two on my shortlist were the BMW X5 and the Kia Telluride - again, purely based on exterior aesthetics.

I also don't enjoy the aesthetic of the palisade. I prefer the Telluride in that regard. But I have sat in it, and it is lovely. The GV80 is in another league really. From the froufrou factor to the tech to the power and aesthetics, all one step up.

However, beauty is in the beholder as they say. 😁

The way I see it, the top trims of the Palisade and Telluride are competitors for the FWD Japanese lux CUVs, whereas the GV80 goes head to head with the X5, GLE and Aviator.

Everyone's response to my inquiry is spot on and for sure, it is a matter of personal preference. I commend you for all the reasons stated here for choosing your GV80s.

A German's (Thomas) take on the GV80.

Basically sees the GV80 being closest to the non-AMG GLE.

Thinks the interior is better than the Germans in certain respects.

Weakness is the ride/suspension (not that Thomas thinks it's bad) - not being as soft or sporty as the Germans, but that comes with the cost and complexity of an adaptable air suspension.

(Thomas takes the GV80 to over 100 mph on the autobahn.)

As much as Thomas seems to like the GV80, think he'll like the GV70 even more.
