  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV80 Reviews

A German's (Thomas) take on the GV80.

Good review, thanks for posting it. I was curious as to what form the Euro version would take and this review scratched that itch 🙂

Here's a good review by A8 which shows some of the unusual aspects of the GV80 without being annoying or silly like Doug.

Definitely goes over a good # of things that most reviewers have missed.

There's a comparison with the X5 and GLE by Edmunds, but not going to link that since Takahashi is so biased (says something when a German gives a more objective review).

Someone over at Edmunds should tell Takahashi to knock it off with the attempts at humor b/c he's not even remotely funny.

A German's (Thomas) take on the GV80.

Basically sees the GV80 being closest to the non-AMG GLE.

Thinks the interior is better than the Germans in certain respects.

Weakness is the ride/suspension (not that Thomas thinks it's bad) - not being as soft or sporty as the Germans, but that comes with the cost and complexity of an adaptable air suspension.

(Thomas takes the GV80 to over 100 mph on the autobahn.)

As much as Thomas seems to like the GV80, think he'll like the GV70 even more.
There is NO way the interior on this Hyundai is better than on the X5 or GLE. Even accepting the subjectivity of reviews, the GV interior is just not up to par. And the new Sonata passenger side of the dash looks pretty close to it for way less money.
The power of marketing and pricing can work magic on gullibility though. Enjoy the Hyundai dealer service.

GV80 demolishes the new MDX...

Delusional then, okay.

Being a badge whore is a hell of a drug.
Thank you for making my point. Take a Hyindai, call it a Genesis, and bring in the cash from gullible buyers. That is what badge whoring is all about. Repeat, enjoy the Hyundai dealer service.

Someone who can't even distinguish between leather and plastic isn't really fit to judge what is and isn't premium. I'm sure you'll love the plastic if it has a German badge on it though.
That is a big dollar diff just for what they call leather.

Moving goalposts, nice lol. Thanks for demonstrating the mental difficulties that badge whores experience on a daily basis.
Hiding the Hyundai behind the Genesis badge is whoring. Leather imstead of plastic is a product difference.

I'll entertain your delusions for a bit longer. What Hyundai is the GV80 based on?

If you want to troll at least put in the slightest bit of effort.

According to whom? You?

Every auto pub has been seriously impressed by the interior of the GV80 (and even more so, the GV70 compared to its competition),

Such as from on C/D -

The interior is as lavish, the powertrain is as polished, and the design is as striking as anything it might compete with. Okay, no one's trading in a Bentley for a Genesis based on brand recognition alone, but anyone driving a Mercedes, a BMW, or an Audi will be shocked that Genesis can offer so much luxury for so little.

Even Autogefuhl's Thomas says he thinks the GV80'S interior is better in certain aspects.

Sonata left, GV80 right. Seat pattern is even similar in the Sonata.

Wow, similar seat pattern must mean they're the same.

The Germans also used diamond quilted seat patterns, but unlike that for the GV80, they are flat and not raised (which is more luxurious).

No different from Toyota/Lexus, Nissan/Infiniti or Honda/Acura, except unlike the Japanese - Genesis doesn't sell tarted-up versions of FWD Hyundais.

Every Genesis is on a proper RWD platform.

Furthermore, a Genesis model here is a Genesis model in Korea, unlike any Infiniti or Acura model being sold in Japan - which are sold as a Nissan and Honda.

In Japan, the Nissan versions of the Q70 and the Q70L were also sold as rebadged Mitsus.

The 1st Acura Legend was a Rover/Sterling.

The Acura SLX was a rebadged Isuzu Trooper.

The G90 is the flagship of the HMG; the LS 500, otoh, loses that honor to the Toyota Century.

But the Germans aren't immune to this either.

Many Audis share their underpinnings with VWs (and for that matter, Skoda and SEAT).

The FWD BMWs are basically Minis underneath, except that BMW can't seem to tune their FWD models as well as Mini.

FWD Mercs used to share a # of major components with Renault (less so true today), as well as sharing them with Infiniti in its ill-fated journey to cut development costs.

And Merc also sells/sold a tarted-up up Renault (the Citan) and a tarted-up Nissan (X-Class).

All of them, except for Genesis, sell economy-minded FWD (subcompact) models.

Hiding the Hyundai behind the Genesis badge is whoring. Leather imstead of plastic is a product difference.

Audi and BMW do the same with their FWD/transverse models, and Merc took it a step further with the Citan and X-Class.

Plus, Audi and BMW also wh*re-it-out the other way with Bentley and Rolls.

Heck, the VW Phantom shared its underpinnings with the Bentley Continental.

What you're making such a fuss about is much ado about nothing.

In actuality, the Genesis brand has less to do with economy-minded models (FWD subcompacts) than the Germans, much much less the Japanese.

Twolf...According to you, I guess I'm a whore for thinking the GV80 is (significantly) better than the BMW 640 I also drive. Or maybe that makes me the John...not sure which. And negatively comparing the Genesis to an Audi makes me want to laugh. My wife's Audi A4 is like a '68 Volkswagen. Quicker, yes, but about the same in comfort. Either way, I'm happy with the whore/John badge you've assigned to me. I will agree the GV80 isn't as cushy as the BMW750X I used to drive. But then again, I didn't pay $120,000 for the Genesis.

Don't tell Twolf that the Lamborghini Urus and Bentley Bentayga are just rebadged versions of the Volkswagen Touareg lol

Or that smart is a Benz sold under a different brand.

It's also interesting to hear the diesel (which we don't get in the US of course).
