If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. A New car 2010 V6 Premium w/tech pkg, about 800 miles now. I was having problems when I refueled. I couldn't pump a full tank of gas because the fuel nozzle kept cutting off even when I tried to slowly fuel the car. Happened 3 times at 2 different stations. Made an appointment with the dealer to check. The evening before my appointment I decided I would give it one More try at a different gas station. Worked perfectly without the nozzle clicking off at full flow and filled the tank before it did. Needless to say I canceled the appointment.

I do love driving this car. Previous 3 cars were Lexus 1 ES300, a RX 300 and a 2007 RX 350.

That has been noted here on this forum by other people as well. Not sure what the outcome was for the other people.

Thanks for the comment on the subject. I have only fueled the vehicle 4 times and 3 of the 4 with difficulty. No conclusions made at this point but
I'm suspecting possibly a venting issue.
I will try a search on the subject to see if others were able to resolve this issue.

Have a new problem that popped up. I am interested in anyone else experiencing a brake light failure with their Genesis 3.8 with prem/tech package. No indication of anything wrong inside the car but both taillights and rear window brake light failed to operate yesterday going home. When I parked the car, someone told me so I checked and sure enough only the tail lights worked with the headlights. Brake lights did not brighten when I pressed the brake. This morning I tested them before I started the car and they worked fine like nothing ever happened. I started the car, turned on the headlights and turned off the headlights and the brake lights lit every time I pressed the brake pedal.

Anyone have their brake lights fail and start working on their genesis?

Followup post from Doc: (see my two prior posts in this thread)

My dealership finally got permission from the "Field Engineer" to replace the TPS (throttle position sensor assembly) and recalibrate it to my vehicle. The throttle problems had been ongoing for months but since an error message never showed, they had not taken action. I think it helped for me to write down the specific issues and to bring in the story from ehayden1 about how his was fixed. Thanks, ehayden!

and.......

Everything works beautifully now! No lagging on acceleration from a stop, no inappropriate revving at startup, and no intermittent shuddering and chugging at highway speeds. The TPS replacement has solved the problems.

I'm glad I was able to find help and information on this forum.

Does anyone know why in a recent Consumer Reports, (April 2010) they have the reliability for the 2009 V6 as above average while the 2009 V8 is average?

I don't know what their source is, but the difference is probably meaningless - I imagine it's based on a small sample and just amounts to a statistical fluke.

Their source is actual statistical data from owners. Was the statistic on just the engine, or on the entire car. V8's tend to be optioned higher, with more electronics. The electronics are the least reliable. You can see the same phenomenon with BMW's and Mercedes. Actually, the German's have much worse reliability issues with their high end electronics.

I wish I knew about the electronics being an issue definitively. I understand the more sophisticated the cars options, the higher possibilty of problems. Everything has electronics, including the drivetrain.

My *guess* is the electronics problems relate more to the gizmos in the tech package than those operating the engine and drive train....at least from what I read on this forum.

Something that has always struck me as counter-intuitive is how cars have become so much more complex and at the same time so much more reliable. While improvements have been made over the years in the design and materials for all the components, I think the major reason is electronic controls/devices are more reliable than mechanical ones.

Back in the 50's I worked in my Dad's garage and learned how stuff works. I still maintain and repair my 1965 Jaguar. It is the essence of mechanical simplicity compared to modern day cars...yet can't compare to them for reliability. If you remember "points", mechanical fuel pumps, etc, you know what I mean.

2010 V8 with tech package.

The parking assist sensors stopped working; took it into the dealer this week, and they couldn't make heads or tails of it after 2 days, including working with tech support. They ended up taking out the central parking assist control in order to get the part number to order a new one--Hyundai couldn't figure out the part number without doing this!

The charger (stinkarette lighter) also failed on me, the mechanic found a short and fixed it. This will help when I need to charge my cell phone on long trips.

Otherwise the car is great. I wish the CD player could read the info off the CD, and what happened to the touch screen NAV that was supposed to be in the 2010s? Mine is not a touch screen system!

After reading True Deltas feedback on the Genesis, there seems to be quite a bit of issues all related to electrics. The problem is it is not in one area, but covers a sh..load of systems. This is somewhat discouraging.

It's based on the whole car, not just the engine. Looking at the ratings, it's the electronics/tech.

Here are the Consumer Report ratings for the Genesis and a few of it's competitors.

My concern is will Hyundai be able to resolve the power equipment/audio issues in a timely manner for the newer cars? I also always wonder when faulty parts are replaced... are these parts updated with an improved version of the same part? I hate when a failed part is replaced with the identical part again. I understand that brand new models do have glitches that take some time to iron out. There have been exceptions such as the introduction of the 1990 Lexus LS400 and 2006 Infiniti M35 which both were pretty much bullet proof form their inception.

Had the same break issue-my break lights and rear window break light completely stop functioning at the same time. After 6 hrs at the autoshop, they found the Diode located in the break lamp sensor had failed. Since it has been replaced (two mths ago) no further problems.

I find myself in a scary situation - I just bought a sliver 2010 4.6 v8 about 10 days ago. I've driven it about 200 miles and over the last 170 I noticed a pretty severe vibration when driving about 35 -45 mph. So I checked this awesome site for information and learned about road force balancing and the sorry state of our OEM tires. The dealer where I found the color/combination with costco price is not convenient (and I had an open saturday morning) so I went to a tire place that did the RFB. Charge for this would have been $100. I thought of it the same as when I had my plasma professionally calibrated. So the tire dude takes the car and comes back 25 minutes later and states - these tires are perfect. I can't even take your money since I didn't do anything other than take them off, roll them over and put them on the machine.

okay - next step back to dealer. So today I take it to the dealer and now they tell me that it's staying there until next thursday at the earliest - a factory technician is flying in to take a look at the car.

All this is fine if they fix the thing but I do worry this will be one of those ongoing annoying issues that I've seen others face. Argh!!

Signed,
Genesis-less in washington

PS - they really don't quite get the 'you just bought a $40k car and it's back in the shop after 200 miles thing'. I'd say I'm being treated baseline 'ok' but they don't have the DNA to understand how much BS this really is.

Sorry to hear about that George. Hope they get it fixed for you. Out of curiosity, which dealer did you buy from on the Costco program?
