If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My seat does not always go back to the programed setting.

I get a similar issue, but with the steering wheel in my case.

I have the "Easy Access" features turned on for both the steering and the seat. I drive with the seat all the way back (6'5" tall), so "Easy Access" will not move the seat, but I have the steering wheel out about 1.5" of horizontal travel and about halfway between full up and down on the vertical.

When I shut off the engine the steering wheel goes all the way up and in as advertised. When I start the engine the steerign wheel seems to always come down to the desired vertical position, but about 5-10% of the time it will not come out, or it will only comes out part way. I have to push the memory button on the door to get the steering wheel to come all the way out to the programmed position.

I know there's an issue that if you shift out of park the steering wheel and seat will stop moving and I avoid shifting until the steering wheel stops moving.

Yes,
First day. Drove the car to work, go to start to return home, ECS light illuminated and the car would not come out of Park. Turn the car off, waited 2 minutes, restarted problem went away. Got to the dealer, shut the car off, problem occurred a second time for the service tech. Car is in the shop as I type, awaiting troubleshooting.

Update,
Got the car back the next day, dealer checked for code errors and software issues, claimed the battery had to be jumped which reset the system.
Next day, same problem, call dealer, awaiting fix.

My back ground;
Air Force aircraft master technician for 20 years. Troubleshooting is an art and requires patience's and persistence. The last thing I expect is a top of the head answer to a complicated issue. If you don't know, say you don't know. The car will not go back to the dealership until the manufacturer has isolated the problem, come up with a fix and repair the car. As owners, this site is powerful and informative; we have to address issues on one accord. Keep up the updates.
More to come...........

I got mine in February (V8) and it is great. Only issue, minor, is the TMPS light comes on by itself on the dash. The dealer says Hyundai is aware of the problem but can not determine how to fix it. All the tires are ok, it just comes on and off by itself.

Check the sunscreen if you have that option on your car. It has been reported on this forum that the sunscreen rattles quite a bit. You can probably do a forum search on sunscreen for more info. Hope that helps.

It is the sunscreen, when it's up the rattle stopped. When it's down the rattle is quite ghetto. Thanks for the help.

Had my first issue (8300 miles) with the audio system upon start up. No sound on XM/USB/FM/AMor NAV. Shut off car for 10 min- reset- and all was well.

Wasn't gonna be happy if it needed an amp replacement.

Other than the seat/ steering wheel not going all the way to the preset position all the time (I think I put it into drive before it finishes) all is great!

bcahn - Thanks for the update. I can't believe (well, yes, I guess I can) such a lame response from the dealer. Battery had to be jumped...reset the system...yea...right!

The pending U0101 code I get every time in this situation is for "TCM (traction control module) lost communication", which makes sense when it comes to setting an "ECS" light. Since the code only "pops" once, it doesn't set a hard code. And since it doesn't re-occur frequenty enough, I think the pending code eventually self-clears, so you won't even see the pending code scan after a couple of start/stop cycles (if I understand OBDII correctly). The only way I caught this was because I carry a code reader in the car all the time (a habit from my old car that kept popping CELs and throwing all kinds of codes). Now, any time my car "mis-behaves" I scan for possible codes.

Since this situation only happens at start-up and it clears with a re-start, I'm betting that there is an issue with the boot-up routines for all the various computer systems in the car. There is probably somthing in one system as it boots-up that is looking for a message from the TCM which, for some reason or another happens to boot up slower in certain situations and thus is not sending the proper message at the proper time. In response, the first system sets an "ECS" light because it thinks there's a problems with the TCM. The ESC light then locks up the transmission since there is a perceived problem.

I've tried cyclingn the ESC off and on when I get the light, but that doesn't clear the problem, which leads me to believe it is strictly an initial boot-up based issue. I just can't figure out what the variables are so that I can controll them and isolate which one is the likely culprit. It would be really nice to be able to see the code and know what is being asked for when by each system.

Did the dealer fix your ESC issue?

Nope. I'm never able to duplicate it for the dealer. I'd been hoping you had better luck, but they gave you the "battery had to be jumped" non-answer.

bcahn,
I have the same problem. Please post what the dealer determined the cause to be.

Mine does the same thing. The tires are fine, and the light goes off next time I get in the car, but the thing comes on maybe once a month, and often when I use the cruise control. Let me know if you find a solution to this as it's a little annoying on an otherwise flawless car.

Right rear wheel bearing failed on mine. My trusted local mechanic found it when changing out the sad stock tires for some good ones. The tire change was a great improvement on noise - even though it was quiet...now it is spooky quiet - very impressive. Also big improvement on the performance in the wet, and even helped a little with the "nervous" ride we all talk about. Right off the show room floor the dealer had to change out the control head for all our tech package goodies - a simple R&R and we were on the road. Have an off again on again issue with the electronic control on the steering column adjustment - turn the car off and back on, and it reboots OK. When I took it into the dealer for the wheel bearing change, they found the brake pads on the wheel were damaged...maybe from the bearing problem. So a few problems.

what tires did you swap out to? Please be specific, brand, size, diameter, speed rating.

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus - Tirerack.com lets you look at the ratings in several performance areas to compare for what is important to your needs. I stayed with the same size as stock. The Michelin improves the speed to Y (not that we can use that much), the treat wear rating went up from stock 380 to 500 and the traction rating went from A to AA (better all around grip - I need improved wet performance). You can see in the detailed ratings the noise was supposed to improve and that was the first thing I noticed. After a bit of "testing" at a local track, I can attest to the improved grip...now we'll see about the longer tread life.

The TPMS light on the dash comes on by it self. Dealer has tried to fix it but can not. No pattern to it so it's hard to isolate.

Fwiw, does the spare have a tpms module as well? Have you made sure the spare is properly inflated? I know this has been an issue on tpms cars in the past.

Fyi, thread ratings are meaningless across tire brands - makers rate them according to their own standards, so a 380 Dunlop isn't necessarily going to wear faster than a 500 Michelin. In general, more grip = less life.

My car does the same thing. The TPMS light comes on intermitently, with no rhyme or reason. Yes my spare is inflate the max level. I am pretty sure, there is no TPMS sensor on the spare.

I've had my Genesis 2.0T for about 4 months now, a couple of weeks ago, a rattle started in the passenger door lower speaker and another has now started in the drivers door upper speaker. :(

We picked up our new 2009 3.8 Genesis on Oct. 2. As I was setting the position of the seats, mirrors and steering wheel for the first time, I discovered that the steering wheel could be adjusted in and out but could not be lowered. Grit, this sounds a bit like your problem. Obviously, I would not drive the car home until it was fixed. They went to work immediately and had it fixed after about 45 minutes.

Two days later I noticed that the daytime running lights were not working. These are mandatory here in Ontario so the car was actually illegal. I took it in to the dealer who fixed it easily.

I have no complaints about the suspension.

Also, the car also does not coast very well, it has a bit of a drag that slow the car down, is this normal?

I have already commented on this here:

http://www.genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showpost.php?p=33269&postcount=21

Here is what I said:

"Well, we have the V6 and this is the first time in almost 50 years of driving that I have encountered the peculiarities of the Aisen transmission. What I have found slightly annoying is that when I take my foot off the gas because we are going down a hill or a slight grade, the car actually starts to slow down. I am learning not to take my foot off the gas on slight down grades now but before I learned that I noticed that not only was my car slowing down a bit but the car behind me which presumably did not have this kind of transmission had gone from following at a respectable distance to tailgating."
