  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

1. Driver's seat track defective. Every time you'd step on the gas or on the brake it would move slightly (rocking motion) and make a "click" noise. Dealer replace seat bottom with track (said track did not come separately. Delayed because first part had a bad seam in the leather. Kudos to the dealer for not just putting it in and waiting for me to complain!! Parkway - Valencia, CA)
2. Gas door release intermittent. Defective push button replaced.

I have two problems:-

(1) Trunk speaker liner incomplete, paid dealer for parts and dealer installed for free. Hyundai reimburse as good will

(2) DIS control know stop working - can go only enter, page up and down.

Couple isolated incidents, not sure whether it will turn into real problems later

(3) DIS system reset by itself while driving, it happened only once

(4) Parking sensor stop working, after washing the bumper start working again. (its not really dirty by any measure)

I wouldn't call #1 a problem per se.

Twice now, when I have shut down the car in the garage, I have had the seat move backwards and the seat back fold all the way forwards, pinning me uncomfortably against the steering wheel. I have read somewhere, perhaps on this forum, that others have had a similar happening. It happened just a few minutes ago.

Today, I think that I may have figured out how it happens. In both cases, I had my hands full and I was elbowing the door open while stabbing at the start button with my right hand to shut down the engine. I believe that the door switch may have opened, closed, and opened again. As a computer hardware designer and programmer of almost 50 years, I believe that there is a bug in the code that shows up only in a very narrow timing condition. I don't know whether the code is interrupt-driven or is a sampling sequence, but the coincidence is too strong to ignore.

thats WILD!! i smell a class action lawsuit coming.... that is unsafe, and an elderly person could break their ribs with that. maybe even death if they are overweight. (get squished like a bug between your fingers)

"FAT LADY DIES IN HYUNDAI GENESIS... More at 10pm."(i can hear the news cast as we speak) HAHA!

Does anyone feel that the suspension is adiquate for the vehicle?

I drive a mercury marauder now, and the lower control arm is MASSIVE and i have hit many curbs, with no need to realign.

Now, i heard a guy said he "hit a curb good" and now the alignment is bad.

i saw a picture of the suspension... and it looks like it should be on a golfcart.... whats anyones feel on this?

No brake lights just recently. Checked fuses all ok. Took to dealer and had to leave the car overnight. Dealer performed tsb 09-br-012 to replace bad diode in wiring harness.

Well, it looks like my problem with the easy access feature was user error. Apparently it's not a good idea to keep your keys in your pocket. Now that I'm taking them out and putting them in the ash tray or in the key slot above the ash tray, I haven't once had a problem with the the easy access.

The AFLS light flashing issue apparently did not set a code in the computer, and hasn't occurred in a while, so another non-issue.

I always carry my fob in my right front pocket hanging on a stainless hook that keeps it at the top of the pocket rather than down among the change. In that position, it is really not very far from the socket at the front of the console.

I have put it in the socket a time or two, but I haven't noticed any difference in operation from in my pocket.

I've read about several different audio/map system failures, flaky voice command mode, etc. on this forum... today my 4.6/Tech invented a new failure:
Drove around a bit, listening to college football games on XM... parked for a few minutes at a tool store... came back out and resumed the football game. When the game finished, I tried to tune to a different XM channel... the LCD display responded normally but the actual audio never changed! The XM receiver was stuck on one frequency. AM and FM tuned normally; USB played normally as well. Going back to XM though I was stuck at the same station even though I could use the DIS knob to select other stations, use the steering wheel memory up/down buttons, etc. and see the new channels... but it never actually changed the audio - that remained stuck on one channel.

Sometimes trying some of the other menu commands (XM categories, Settings, etc) I'd see the "LOADING" banner (the one you see when inserting a CD/DVD) across the regular XM display. ?!?! Then after about 5 to 10 seconds the LOADING banner went away and the XM display returned. Still could "see" channel changes, but audio remained on the same channel. Powering the unit off for a minute (while driving so rest of car was on) didn't make a difference. Parked at my favorite Thai restaurant; after a long lunch the XM system was perfectly normal again. The system needed a "hard boot" reset.

That's the second funkiness from the Lexicon so far. Back in July the system randomly switched display modes (i.e. the display went from AM tuner mode to the NAV mode) and one time it un-tuned the AM station completely. (post 35 in this thread)

I knew the fancy electronics were going to be trouble spots...

Do not have a Genesis yet, but maybe would like to buy one soon so this is good info to know.

On 10/8 I will have had my Genesis for a year.

In that time I have had a few problems, but interestingly some of them are the same problems I had on my XG350.

1. Alignment/Tire issues (3 alignments, just replaced tires due to severe cupping at 18k miles)
Alignment is off on the front all the time. I have taken it to the dealer
and to independent shops and the independents say the passenger front is
out by 1.3 degrees but they need to install a camber kit to fix it, the
dealer says it is perfectly aligned (yet it still pulls).

This is similar to the problem I had with the XG. I went through two sets
of tires in the four years I had the car and only put 75k miles on it. I was
on my third set when I traded it for the Genesis

2. Rattle in the center console when you rest your arm on it (I have not asked this to be resolved yet)
What is funny is that this just started out of the blue. It was fine one day
and rattled the next (and no, it is nothing inside the console).

3. Rattle with read window shade
There is a rattle in the rear window shade when it is down.

I rarely drive with the shade down so I don't consider this a problem for
me, but it is still an issue I thought I would mention.

4. Oddities with the Audio/DIS
Occasionally the audio system will become unresponsive, I adjust the
volume and it doesn't change for a few seconds then it changes all at
once.

Occasionally the DIS will have a long delay after speaking a command.
For example, when I say "Call Ginger", it will pause for 10-15 seconds
and then respond. Sometimes when I say the same thing it responds
immediately. I don't know if it is due to voice recognition issues or
the computer being busy, but it is annoying more than it is a problem.

Twice, the audio system has become "buzzy". What I mean by that is
the sound coming out of the speakers changes from normal to quiet with
an air of what it sounds like to overdrive an old-school transistor radio.
The fix is to turn-off the car for a few minutes (sometimes you have to
do this twice). It never occurs when I am close to the dealer so I have
not been able to get them to look at this one.

5. Wipers
The wiper blades for the Genesis have a terrible life (in my opinion). As
I mentioned my car is now a year old and I am ready for my third set of
wiper blades. The first set were replaced under warranty but the
replacements have only lasted three months. If I were buying $10 blades
this would be fine but since the replacements will cost more than $60
from the dealer (and to my knowledge they are not yet available
elsewhere) I think this is a bit questionable.

Now, don't get me wrong. I expect every car to have some issues so I am not saying I am unhappy with the car.

I STILL LOVE THE CAR!

What I don't like is the dealer. The service representative at my local dealer is very nice, but they don't do due diligence in solving and issue, in my opinion. The seem to do the very least that can be done to "get by" and then give the car back. I am not a former luxury car owner (unless you consider the XG a luxury car) but I got much better service from Ford when I took my F150 in for the occasional issue.

I will say one thing. I had few initial problems with the F150 but we will see how this car compares in about 3 more years because after four years I had a bunch of stuff starting to go wrong with the F150.

At 800 miles had the thermostat housing replaced, small coolant leak.
My seat does not always go back to the programed setting. Leather on drivers seat cushion seems loose, stretched? (I am 197 pounds).

Can we change our votes? Of course when this poll first was introduced, I had no issues. Since then the car has been serviced to replace a faulty canister close valve (discovered by an activated check engine light). I also had my center arm rest replaced because it rocked slightly when I rested my arm on it. It was missing one of the two black rubber pieces under the lid which kept it balanced. That of course was very minor and I would have lived with it. But they offered to fix it under warranty and I graciously accepted.

Yes,
First day. Drove the car to work, go to start to return home, ECS light illuminated and the car would not come out of Park. Turn the car off, waited 2 minutes, restarted problem went away. Got to the dealer, shut the car off, problem occurred a second time for the service tech. Car is in the shop as I type, awaiting troubleshooting.

Not one problem in the 10 months that I've owned the car. But on the day I was to take delivery, a Saturday, I noticed that the height adjustment for the rear portion of the driver's seat did not work. Four people stood around for 15 minutes, including the owner and service manager, trying to figure out if a $35k car should have a seat with a height adjustment even though there was a similar car (premium plus vs premium) on the lot with a working seat. They told me to wait until Monday when they could talk to a service rep. When I got home there was a message saying they fixed the loose connection under the drivers seat and I could come back and pick up the car.

Great car - dealer not so much.

Yes, bluetooth ends phone conversations after 2 1/2 minutes. Keeps
the cellphone costs down.
We love it

Anyone have problems with rattles, the sub in my back deck sounds like shit it rattles so much. It's not the speaker itself, it's something else.

I also have a rattle in the passenger door (non sounds system related).

I can't find the source and I don't want to take it to Hyundai because I don't trust their low-tier technicians. Example: last week my oil change took 2 hours because the lube guy had never changed the oil in a Genesis.

My friends give me a hard time about spending so much on a Hyundai, this just fuels their fire.

Any suggestions?

Check the sunscreen if you have that option on your car. It has been reported on this forum that the sunscreen rattles quite a bit. You can probably do a forum search on sunscreen for more info. Hope that helps.

Let me know what they say at the shop. I get the ECS light/locked transmission at completely random intervals (its happened 6 times since I bought my Genny on Memorial Day). Sometimes it will be on the first start of the day, sometimes the third, fourth or fifth. It always pops a pending U0101 code on the OBDII (but never goes to a full code to set the CEL). I can never dupe it for the dealer.
