If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. HELP: 2015 Genesis Ultimate or Equus Ultimate...need to decide today...

That one with 38 miles is amazing.. Staring price at $17k off list? Bet they will go better, or do a excellent trade.. Now I have buyers remorse on my 2015 Genny ultimate 5.0.. :)

Without much pushing, they were over 20K off...
BUT, all the feedback from this group pointed me to the Genny :-)

Anyway, as you mentioned in the thread earlier...once my new car euphoria evaporated, I was underwhelmed with the dealership experience. Perhaps, its an opportunity to look out for 2016 improvements....

Thanks to this community for their support and enthusiasm!

Great decision, they were obviously trying to pick your pockets.

This. Nothing like the dealer trying to raise the price at the last moment for you. Now of course there really are restrictions on rebates, but come on.... the guy bought the friggin car there!

Thanks all!

The sales guy indicated that this morning, he had personally gone and done a car exchange with another Hyundai dealer 30 miles away, to get me my preferred color comb0 .
So was it the 3.8 or the 5.0 Genny?

Yes, it was a new 3.8 RWD Ultimate; Black/Black.

Yes, I bought a new 2015 Sonata Hybrid Ltd from the same dealer with the same sales person 3 weeks ago. In that purchase, once we negotiated and agreed on the price (it was very competitive), I basically asked them to write down on a piece of paper the net out of the door cost for the car that i would need to pay if i was buying the car right there/then, without ANY considerations for leasing/financing, or add on's (like warranty extension, maintainance, etc). Then i wrote a check for that amount, less a $1000...even before they got me to the Finance guy to start the purchase paperwork; and I said to the sales guy and the Finance person that i do not need any finance/lease or other add-on's...just the car at the out of the door price they wrote on the piece of paper. It was a short conversation. They were puzzled by the less than $1000 that i wrote the check for; i was assuming that i may be able to negotiate them down a bit more...but i was not (cannot complain, the price was good enough). So, i offered my credit card for that $1000; and after some grumbling, they accepted it.
BTW, that car was a NEED...for my son's use.

In that Sonata purchase visit, i test drove a Genny Ultimate and fell in love with the driving experience; and that is what became a WANT...one that festered for 2 weeks and then i decided to lease one to scratch the itch. It can wait.....no issue...

3.8 RWD Ulit is a sweet ride, loved the steering feel on it, very light on its feet. Equus would be a totally dif driving experience.

Were the Equus and the Genny comparably priced? If so that was one hell of an ultimate Equus price...

No, they were not the exact same price. But within reasonable distance. The used 2015 Equus Ultimate would need to be purchased, they would not Lease it; and they were at about $48K. The new 2015 3.8 RWD Ultimate for purchase was $45308 (MSRP: $50135); but lease cash brought that down further by $1500 to $43808, that with MF 0.0006, got us to ~$500 a month.

Anyway....all that is theoretical now....and i have Zero walkaway remorse (thank god) :-)

Walkaway remorse is the opposite of buyers remorse.

The difference is that if you have walkaway remorse, you can always go back. These cars aren't going anywhere anytime soon. With buyer's remorse, you can't just take it back.

As i said, assume all things being equal...
One car is new; other is not.

Between the two cars...without price considerations...which one is better? I am told that Genesis is newer generation, while the Equus is not; even though they are both 2015s? I am not smart enough to know the intricacies of this...thus my request for guidance.

Thanks

I have not read through this entire thread, so you likely have already concluded your deal. But my opinion - go for the Equus Ultimate for sure. It is a very nice car. I have driven both, my business partner has the Equus. The Equus is the better car to me. The Genesis is very nice. Just not as nice as the Equus, which is a cut above.

Thanks.
The deal was on hold.
I have a new set of options that i need to decide on...and i hope that i can do that this weekend...

Option 1: 2014 "Used" Equus Classic $42K. It is a Hyunday corp fleet vehicle, with 200 miles on it. Outright purchase only.

Option 2: 2015 Genesis 5.0 RWD Base. $41K. It is a new vehicle, with 300 miles on it. Outright purchase only.

Questions...
- Which one make sense?
- Which one will have better value in say 3 yrs, for resale.

Unless you can't wait, I'd hold out for an Ultimate. The Heads-up Display is awesome. As mentioned before, I prefer the improved 2015 Genesis platform over the previous generation Equus platform.

The sales guy went thru the motions of escalations, and then came back suggesting that we raise the price basis by $1000 for now, and if my plates on the 3 week old car come early next week, then they can redo the paperwork to try to get me $1000 then. I went and talked to the manager, and he said that he cannot do anything.

1. raise the price basis by $1000 for now (for now - definite)
2. redo the paperwork to try to get me $1000 (try - maybe)

Right...

Believe me, none of those shitheads would have been available for you when you wanted to "redo the paperwork" to "try" and get that $1000 back...

Thanks.

What do you mean "Equus Classic"? If you mean Signature then I would go the way of the Genesis.

By the way - Go ask the Equus owners what they prefer.

Coming into the Genesis section and asking is obvious you will get more nods to the Genesis.

Most importantly. What do you prefer? They are very different cars in many respects.

Fair ask.

I did post the Q in the Equus forum as well; but the traffic there is very low and have not had any response yet.

What do i prefer...hmm. Ride quality, i felt the rides to be similar; 2015 Genesis was more interesting as it had some more advanced features (like active lane assist, etc).

One consideration is resale in 3 yrs...what will retain value better (assume both cost me the same, say $41K ) the 2014 Equus Signature (MSRP: $61K) as a 2nd owner of record, or the 2015 Genesis 5.0 base (MSRP: $52.7K) as a 1st owner of record? Frankly, I am not sure....thus the request for inputs...

Thanks

^ Going to the whole resale value in 3 yrs ? - you chose well in opting for the 5.0 Genesis over the Equus.

One of the biggest factors into residual value is ATP - or the amount of discount from MSRP as residual values are calculated from MSRP (so those getting a big discount from MSRP should really grumble about lower residual value as they are getting the savings up front).

That being said, the Genesis should hold its value better in 3 yrs as it would still be the current model (while in a yr or so, a new 3G Equus will hit the lots, driving the down the value of the 2G Equus) and the discounts on the Equus have been greater.

Due to Hyundai still being new at the luxury game and having to discount, the largest hit on resale value will be the 1st few yrs.

But as long as the Genesis and Equus continue to show better than avg. reliability (we'll see how that goes when the Genesis gets the FI 3.3L V6), the value should stabilize beyond the 1st few years and as it gets out of the original warranty period for 2nd owners (unlike for the Germans and maybe the domestics, where resale value declines sharply once the warranty coverage expires).

Btw, congrats on your 5.0!
