If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Here is a video of my MagnaFlow mufflers and exhaust tips after install

I'm just curious if these magnaflow mufflers on the 4.6 are legal...as far as noise goes. The reason is that my last ticket, believe it or not, was in 1957 for a noisy muffler and the cop on a three wheeled harley had a motorcycle that was louder then my car but that was OK because "IT WAS MADE THAT WAY" (I never understood that reasoning).

Yes, all of MagnaFlow, Borla, and Flowmaster exhaust parts, mufflers etc. are 50 state legal.

Nice video, Scott! Great sound. Though I was half expecting a priceless YouTube video on the launch toward the end. The blog headlines would be: Genesis tuner crashes into church pastor's car.

This did make me laugh BTW, as I've seen many of the same video's on youtube I'm sure:D I'm not reckless like the fool's both of us have seen. But I bet that's what "they" were thinking:p

Hey, wheines, 1957. So what are we talking here? '57 Chevy, glass packs, ? :D Come on....give us the skinny! :D

Bet the cop wasn't reving his engine, like someone else, maybe?

1954 Ford Crestliner convertible. I was just cruising and not accelerating. They has a task force out and I just happened to be the next guy to be pulled over. They were really mellow and only 'popped' if you did rev her up. A truck went by much louder then either of our vehicles and I shouted "Go get HIM". The cop then checked the entire interior of the car (clean). When ready to leave, I asked if he wasn't going to check the trunk. The look he gave me told me I had better keep quiet. But he did put out his hand for my keys and checked out the trunk ...clean also. That ticket cost a whopping six bucks but it hurts to this day.

Yea, I've changed exhausts on many cars and sometimes you hear the exhaust in the cabin endlessly at certain speeds. It can become quite annoying. I suspect in your case the center muffler is playing an important part in eliminating drone. Thanks for your response and information. Based on your results, I'm considering changing the rear mufflers only, leaving the stock tips in place on my 4.6.

Going back to what you said above. I think if this car did not have TRUE DUEL exhaust....there would be less sound than what my setup currently has. I think it might be too quiet with the "Y" split exhaust. Glad Hyundai went all the way with real duel. I'm glad I went with this setup because it's a pretty happy medium. It's kinda loud when I want it to be and it's quite when I want stealth mode and has a great rumble. Somewhat similar to the 4.6 Mustang, but with DOHC baby!!!

Cat-back systems available for V6 or V8 Genesis offered by MagnaFlow:

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/02catback.asp

I've sent in for a request for a price from performancepeddler.com to see what they sell it for (V8). I'm not interested on buying a kit, just curious on what they go for.

The price for the V8 catback is $532.68 with free shipping. and the price for the V6 is $733.18
It appears the V6 kit is more money then the V8.

Note: I have a few friends who used to be wrenches (mechanics) and they say the ESU must be updated or retuned/dyno tuned in order to get any HP benefits from a catback kit.

They also have mentioned that exhaust systems on cars now days are specifically tuned for optimal performance, and I'd be wasting my money on a cat-back kit for the high price most company's want. This is exactly what my custom exhaust shop told me when I had my mufflers put on my car. They said not to bother with a catback kit because it's not worth the price.

the first picture appears to be for the coupe 3.8 and the second picture is for the 4.6

I don't know why it took me so long to read this thread, but your exhaust sounds great scott! Forgive me if I missed it earlier in the thread, but did you have to cut your bumper to accommodate the quad exhaust tips?

Your car looks great too....nice tint/nice lip spoiler. :)

Thanks Waters:grouphug:

No modification was made to the bumper in order for the tips to fit. I consider the tips temp until I can find a set of quad tips that fit better, preferably with an offset to fit better.

Motorsportsauthority has a set of quad tips with an offset, but I measured underneath the car and they would be a very small improvement over what I have now size-wise. I'm still contemplating buying them though.

Exhaust sounds great.
Is there much of a difference in sound inside vs the stock system. Also did you notice any performance gains,as if the the sounds wasnt sweet enough.

Thanks:) It is noticable inside the car now, but not annoying. I doubt there were any performance gains, maybe a couple of HP.

I think the links you originally posted for your muffler and tips have changed (one goes to a skylark cat back system). Would you mind posting the part numbers, so I can reproduce the order?

Thanks -
cris

Magnaflow needs to hurry up and launch the exhaust! It's got the pricing set, but no units are available for the last 3 months

Damn.. I need better speakers.
Listening to it on my laptop doesn't do it justice, I'm sure.
So basically, it's just the muffler(end section) and the tips that were replaced? Not to whole catback?
If so, I think it's a smart way to give it a little more rumble without going too obnoxious or expensive.

Yeah, it's just the mufflers and tips replaced. That's it.

Yup, you're right, and I laughed out loud! Seems MagnaFlow has changed part numbers for a lot of their products. The new link for the mufflers on page 3 now goes to a diesel muffler.

The following link should be the exact product I ordered. I went out into the garage and measured. They shop did cut some of the inlet and outlet pipe off to shorten the length of each muffler.

Try this...

Magnaflow makes a real nice exhaust that I think we'll end up using on our exhaust systems. I'll try to post pics, but the inlet and outlet are on the same side.

You got a nice ride (mine is the same color) and it sound straight sweeeet!! Where did you get the rear wing? It really makes the Genny sweeter.

Thanks Snake:grouphug:

I bought the rear wing from woodview.com It was the least expensive I could find and the quality of the paint job the company did turned out great.

Here is my thread regarding the spoiler purchase and install. Enjoy!

I finally got my new tips put on that I puchased from Motorsportsauthority, and I think they are a HUGE inprovement over the MagnaFlow tips I had put on a year ago.

They fit the exhaust tip cut-out much better and do not stick out too far as the MagnaFlow tips did.

The installer just cut off part of each tip (part the gets welded to the outlet on the muffler) about a half in or a little more, for a better fit. He says that the tips should stick out a little to enable the exhaust to come "out and up" avoiding any fumes entering the vehicle.

The tech also mentioned that he really want to take off the factory resenator which he thinks if removed would give the car an even better tone compared to my setup, but I know removing that would also make the exhaust louder.

Anyone want to buy my MagnaFlow set, possibly for another car you have:)?
