  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

How to get to the wiring harness for rear view mirror on 2015 Genesis 3.8 AWD?

MisterTmac, I just want to thank you very much for your helpful illustrated post. I have hard wired my radar detector several times to the mirror in various vehicles, but the 2015 Genesis is the first one that effectively hid the wiring harness. I searched the internet high and low, and finally found your post. It was the only source that showed a) where the wiring harness was, and b) how to get to it by simply popping off the little plastic cover behind the mirror, and c) which slots to use for the wire connections. With that information it was relatively straightforward to install my Passport 9500ix in my new Genesis 3.8 RWD (which I am loving). THANKS AGAIN!!

Cover to remove.. [etc]

Eggcellent. Thank you for this. Now I know how I am going to wire in my DVR cam. W00t

I did tie in to the speaker leads to add a larger sub to the trunk.

Care to share some details on this? I need just a tad more bottom end than the free-air sub in the deck can do. Where did you tap in at & for what speaker?

Thanks!

Should be! Just make sure the voltage is correct for the camera. A lot of the dash-cams run on 5V-USB, so you need a small transformer that turns 12V to 5V.

Transformers can step down alternating current, not direct current.

Worked like a champ.

Thanks for the inside tip.

my Escort Solo is up and running.

I was able to expose the wiring harness you showed but how do you disengage the harness to hang loose and insert the taps?

You definitely need a detector in this car. If not, recommend the cruise control. Sometimes, on a very quiet empty road, I look at the speedometer and I am in the triple digits. ::eek:

Yes. Away from the windshield. There is a black plastic base that looks like it stays stuck to the windshield but the cover pops away from that base.

I know this is an ancient thread, but I was wondering: Is the process the same for the 2018 Genesis G80 as this 2015 vehicle? Curious since after getting my dashcam wiring updated, I noticed the mirror was very loose and was considering repairing it myself (it's easy) instead of taking it all the way back into the shop.

I just installed a blendmount and did a mirror tap for power on the Uniden R3 that I purchased last week. No problems on the install and accessed the power via the small plastic cover (thanks for the pics).

However, the main/larger plastic shroud is now loose where it wasn't before and somehow got knocked off after going to the car wash today, I guess they bumped it when cleaning the windshield and dash. Any idea on how to reattach it? I tried but it doesn't seem to want to clip back on.

Can't let this go uncommented, even after 4 yrs

Cover to remove.. small rectangular piece, simply angle mirror down and "pop' it out.

I used the Grey (+) for switched power with cars accessory, and the black (-) for ground. I used the Blendmount mirror tap (Nano size)

I stuck the wiretap leads into the grey (+) and black (-) wires.
I also used the supplied zip tie to secure the wire about 1/4" up from the connection. Also used needle nose pliers to get the wire taps in a bit more..

This walk-through was extremely helpful. I installed my mirror tap in less than 5 minutes with ease. Hardest part surprisingly was securing the tiny zip ties around the wires.

I will post pictures of the RD install after work.

I am trying to tap into 12V power through rear view mirror's wire harness in my new 2015 Genesis 3.8 AWD.

The harness is concealed and I assume that it can be accessed by removing the large black plastic cover mounted on the windshield.
I just wanted to confirm how to remove the cover. I don't want to break anything and I am hoping that someone here has done it and knows how to properly take the cover off.
it comes off very easy just press untoward the glass and slide down.
