  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hyundai no longer making 2015 Genesis Rear Wing Badge?

I was just pointing out that even dealers are getting badges off eBay.
I mentioned that dealers get the wings off eBay (or from the importer website--some sell both places) before you did in two different posts in this thread alone (and also about 15 other threads). I am not flaming you, but I am dismayed that you seem to be claiming that you are the first one to mention it.

After replacing mine with an OEM part off eBay, I took the car in for service. The dealer told me that all the emblems they replace are ones they purchase off eBay, because they cannot order them from Hyundai. Sounds like the USA market is locked down, driving all the business to the KDM market. Or the dealer has no clue. I know they knew less about replacing the H with the wings than I did. And all I knew came from YouTube videos

Mark_888, can you help me pinpoint what's wrong with the message I quoted? I'm trying to figure out where the "problem" is. This thread now needs a cleanup.

Please feel free to delete all my posts on this thread. Mark made some very correct, but global statements.

All I was trying to add is that I had a face-to-face with my dealer that confirmed that they personally bought off eBay, not a second-source supplier, etc. I was trying to re-affirm what Mark and I both agree on, which is that the dealers have no more of a clue than we do - and that this was not speculation or supposition - this was confirmed by a dealer, my dealer, who was surprised that I had figured it out and done it myself (OK, my wife did it; it is her car).

Why did I think it was important? Because I have seen two posts that I remember where a newbie owners (I am a newbie as of March) had actually coughed up hundreds of dollars to have a dealer do what can be done for $12 - $15 - just because they were afraid they were not getting a real OEM part off eBay.

Just trying to help.

Having said that, all the threads on this subject are getting long-winded, and it might warrant a sticky that shows the steps, etc.

Thanks, whatever you choose to do. I'm good.

Sorry for any confusion; I thought my posts were pretty clear.

Your posts are very clear and thank you for posting them. Don't worry about Mark_888. He is just upset that he doesn't have a 2015 Genesis (yet!) :D

I am not upset that I don't have a 2015.

I spend a lot of time trying to help people understand this. I was one of the first to replace wings on my Genesis over 6 years ago, and have read most new posts by others since then, so I know something about it.

Why people would listen to a car salesman, or a newbie, instead of members who know about these subjects, is beyond me.

Personally, I would not worry about a cleanup. People should read all the posts and then they would understand what the truth is. I explained multiple times why the wings are not available from HMA (they are not OEM parts on US Genesis), but are only available from KDM dealer parts departments (because they are OEM on KDM Genesis).

I'm not sure if I should wade into this water or not. But one thing you will see often on eBay is sellers listing for lots of 10 or 20 or more wings. Clearly these sellers are not hoping to sell to an owner of a single Genesis. So they are targeting dealers. I, like many others, purchased my wings for the trunk, the wheels, etc off of eBay. But sellers on there are selling large lots of wings. Those are going to dealers because the dealers cannot get them in the USA parts system.

Hyundai thinking is that they can build the brand and not have to open separate stores for the luxury line. I don't think it's going to work well. The buyer of an Accent is general different than the buyer of an Equus. This is why Toyota has Lexus, Nissan has Infinity, Honda has Acura, GM (Chevrolet) spent so much trying to save Cadillac, Ford is trying to save Lincoln, etc.

You just don't see luxury brands mixed with lower level cars in a successful model. Hyundai doesn't want to build a new network and brand due to cost. But I'm of the belief that in the end, they will go there out of necessity to expand the line. Mercedes and BMW only do luxury. Even BMW went to Mini to build a lower brand. It's just how it works. Hyundai isn't going to be clever enough to change consumer behavior on a large scale. This is why they have to discount the Genesis and Equus so deeply to move them. We are all getting a great buy right now. And they will have to continue to discount them as long as they run a singular brand. It's just how the consumer works.

ICanHasGenesis is just helping out by telling us his experience with his dealer. That is great information for those who might be leery of buying a wing from eBay. I know your not upset. Hence the :D. I have learned a lot from this site and from you.

When we test drove a Genesis back in 2012 after seeing the Superbowl commercial with the RSPEC I knew I wanted one. When I heard a new generation Genesis was coming out, I joined this forum. I learned all things Genesis on this site and am grateful to everyone's posts whether they apply to the things that I need or not.

The more posts a forum has, the more knowledge that is passed around to help others. Forums are for posting your opinions, ideas, questions etc... and we have a great number of members on this forum which makes it a great learning experience for those who are new to all things Genesis.

Thank You Mark_888, ICanHasGenesis and everyone else on here for your posts. Keep them coming.

No need to delete any posts.

However, I don't understand what you mean by "dealers have no more of a clue than we do."
  1. What do you mean by "we" Kimosabe?
  2. I have a clue and understand it completely, and have understood it for 6.5 years ever since I first changed my H to wings (and also hub caps).
  3. A lot of other members understand it also since the H has been switched to wings on well over 100,000 Genesis sedans, mostly because of information shared on this forum.
  4. There are multiple versions of the wings depending on model year, and whether it is for the front or rear (sometimes the sheet metal is flat and sometimes it is curved). So when buying on eBay, one does have to make sure they get the right one.
  5. For God's sake, please stop telling us what a car salesman says or claims. Half the time it is not true. And so what if they don't know about the wings?

Hyundai is back on the "build the brand" mission. Their latest commercial (seen here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Le31141uvPw and discussed elsewhere on this forum) says:

"What's it like to drive a Hyundai? ... You have no idea"
What this means is that HMA research still shows that a lot of Camry and Accord buyers don't even test drive a Sonata (or other Hyundai in same class they are shopping for). That is one reason they are marketing the Genesis as a Hyundai in the US, in order to improve the Hyundai brand reputation. What the future holds for a separate Genesis brand in the US, I don't really know.

Mark_666, I was just trying to be civil. My bad. The fact remains that more than a few people spent good money with stealerships on what they could have done themselves. That was the whole, entire point of my post. Aren't we trying to help each other here in these forums?

That's because they, like you, don't read the other posts on this forum on this subject, not even the other posts in the same thread that you post in.

The idea that after thousands of other posts, and hundreds of threads on this subject over the last 6.5 years, that somehow you are the one saving the day, is ridiculous.

Ok. I'm definitely NOT taking sides in this debate.... But that sh*t is funny right there! Lmao.
Just proves my point. Not only does he not read any previous posts in the same thread, he doesn't read the forum rules about not making personal attacks on other people.

FOLLOW UP: Dealer replaced my rear wing badge with a new one they purchased off eBay. This one is much better and seems to fit tight on both sides. Overall, dealer took care of issue with no problem. Looks good now!
