  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I forgot how poorly my Genesis is in the Snow...

Given that you have a 2011 Genesis, it is not surprising that it is worse than average in snow, because the rear suspension is quite firm. My guess is that 2012+ is somewhat better. You could get probably get noticeable benefit by replacing your 2011 rear stabilizer bar with 2012+ version, which should only cost about $125 for the part (plus installation).

Nope

The first big snowfall yesterday and I ventured out of the house with my Genesis. I could not even make it up a snow covered hill. It was snowpacked. I tried 1st gear, ESC off,on etc. I just could not get going. The car was pretty much unmanageable with any slight curve going more than 20 mph.

I have lived in Minnesota all my life and only drove rear wheel drive cars until the Mid 80s.

I don't want snow tires as I'll be leaving for Florida soon. I have all season tires on now, so I am thinking some weight (sand Bags)in trunk might get me through. How much weight do you think would help?
No offense but if you have driven rear wheel cars all your life and with snow --- you know you need good snow tires . You know what , go to Florida earlier and you wont have the problem??

Big Blockhead, No offense, but I solved my problem with some weight in the trunk.

I'm also in Plymouth. I have only seen about 4 Genesis here in the last 4 years. What color is yours?

I have an 09, Titanium Grey 4.6, Re-badged, Maroon pin-stripe that I applied, dark saddle leather that is kind of rare, chrome wheels in the summer...whenever we get summer! I live near 101 & 55. Bought mine used with 22,000 at Morrie's where I work as a retired driver and now am close to 60,000 miles. Really like this car!

Having driven in winter snow for nearly 55 years, after reading all you guys' comments I am increasingly grateful that I don't have to do it any more. If the roads are bad I just stay home. Our roads are usually cleared within a day of a storm so it's no hardship. I sold my Blizzaks (on rims) two years ago - they only had about 500 miles on them and the buyer got a good deal.

I love my Genesis in the snow. We've had snow for about a month now, with a blizzard that came through monday and with my Blizzaks I had no problem going through about 5" or snow, although my lower air dam is packed with snow because of it.

I feel bad for all of you that are dealing with this latest winter ice and snow storm. This past week here in my town the highs have been in the 70's. Its 1:17 am and the current temp is 49F. You know there are some nice homes for sale here. :welcome:

I've never owned a rear wheel drive car that had any traction in snow. However, after being used to front wheel drive over the past couple decades, I hope we get no snow/ice here in S.C. I'd had to have to be stuck inside the house until the "big" melt comes...... lol

I can not believe how good my Genesis is in the snow with the Michelin X-Ice winter tires. Had a couple of inches of snow on Friday & when I left work I went into an empty (covered in snow) area of the parking lot and put my foot down firmly on the gas. Car moved straight forward at a reasonable rate with the ESC light flickering on & off. Tried with ESC off, foot not as far down & the rear starting to move around. No problem on hills so far.

I have the OEM 18" wheels and 235 tires, when I got the Michelins I got 17" alloys and 215 tires for more weight/area on the contact area.

I'm with you. I drove in the snow belt for about 20 years, and I don't miss it. OTOH, the rare times we get ice or snow here in Alabama, it's a disaster. There's very little equipment to deal with it, and drivers don't know how to handle it.

Had a daytime high of -25 on friday, windchill was something like -37. Frostbite in under 10 minutes on any exposed skin.. :(

I just took my Genesis with XIce tires in for some work and got a Genesis loaner with Michelin all-seasons on it. Yuck. Car is all over the place.

What kind of Michelins are they? Which dealership? I'm surprised that they gave you a Genesis without snow tires? What were they thinking?

I telecommute, so as long as I keep the pantry and fridge stocked I can be homebound for days. Winter driveability was not a consideration when I bought my car, and the few times I've had it out in icey conditions it seemed to do just fine. But most of the time my Gen stays tucked away in the heated garage. I love getting the car out a couple days after it snows when the roads are clear and everyone elses car looks salt covered and filthy... my car's still gleaming :)

I really don't mean to be rude, but you're joking, right? No dealership that I know of puts winter tires on every loaner car in a winter climate in the interest of safety of the loanee who is driving it. (They are Michelin Energy Saver A/S.)

What are they thinking? They want you to buy another car with a lot more options because it makes them money in the end if you decide to upgrade (loaner is a full-tilt 2013 3.8L). That's the way the system works. It just means that I drive a lot slower and more careful than I would in my own car.

No biggie, except for the dweeb behind me who can't figure out why I don't rocket off-the-line when the light turns green, like his/her Subaru ... :p

Yes, I was joking....referring to other comments on this thread, that you should never consider All season tires here in the winter.

Drove my R-Spec in the snow today. We got a light dusting. Noticed when I was going about 50 to 60 the backend was moving enough (slippage) to actuate the ESC.

Have the stock contis all season.

Did fill up the gas tank yesterday, so that additional weight did help the backend.
