  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I now own a 2015 Genesis!

I don't know for sure, but the holes were the same on the 2009-2014 models. If for some reason they are not, you can just grind the posts off with a dremel tool. That is what people did on the hood, since the USA hood did not have holes in it and KDM hood badge had posts.
Just to clarify my what I said above, the posts on the 2009-2014 flying H were the same as the posts on the 2009-2014 rear KDM wings, so the posts matched up with holes in the trunk. But I believe that someone said the 2015 KDM wings have posts further apart than previous years, but the posts on the 2015 flying H may still be the same as the 2015 KDM wings. That would make sense so Hyundai doesn't have to drill two separate kinds of holes depending on market.

I have had my rear wings for a couple of weeks now and I will confirm fitment when I get my car. That being said, the dealers are offering the install so I would say it's 99.999% sure the KDM wings fit into the existing alignment holes.;)

Well, some dealers offered to put the wings on the front of a 2009-2014 Genesis (but usually for a charge), and this required them to cut off the posts, since the USA Genesis in those years had no holes in the hood. So many dealers know how to do it.

But it would seem unlikely that Hyundai would make two different trunks, one with holes for wings in KDM market and other with holes for the H in other markets.

The desire and urgency for many to remove the Hyundai branding from their cars is symbolic of the challenges the Genesis faces as it creeps into new territory where status is more prevalent. Clearly, brand prestige does play a role - in this case, as long as the value component holds, some will forgo driving a car because of status....just as long as the Hyundai logos go.

Does the wing you received look smaller than the wing on the front? looks that way in the picture. I like it.

I took a measurement of the wings on my hood today (pic attached which shows 8.75" from tip to tip. The wings I ordered today had a pic as well of them for the OEM trunk and appears slightly shorter just over 8" tip to tip (the link to that Ebay post for these wings provided earlier in this thread).

I had originally thought the wings (that at the time I thought were the same size as the hood for the trunk) would be too big. Now that I see that the wings are actually almost .75" shorter for the trunk, I went ahead and ordered them and the dealer has offered to do the installation at no charge.

I received the 2015 genesis trunk badge I ordered recently from eBay and the posts are about 4.8 inches apart. How wide is the flying H badge on the 2015 genesis? Hoping we won't need to saw off the posts.

I was interested in buying the badge on eBay too. The one that I saw said in the pictures that you needed to "remove" the posts. It did not say how. I wondered if they unscrew off, or if you have to saw them off and file them down to be flush. It seems like a pain if this is the official OEM badge for the 2015 Genesis. Let us know how you apply it, what steps you had to do (details please), and upload some photos. Thanks!

This is a picture on the rear of the factory OEM rear trunk Genesis badge. This is taken from the eBay link supplied earlier. Here it is again:

You need to scroll through the pictures to see this photo. Why do you need to remove the posts? If this is for the trunk, why don't the posts line up? How do you remove the posts? Do the posts unscrew off, do you need to saw them off and file them down, etc...?

There are thousands of posts on how to replace the badges on this forum, some with video's and pics. People have been doing it since late 2008. For 2015, you only have to replace the rear badge. If you do need to remove the posts, most people use a Dremel tool.

Get this tool:

Use safety glasses (trust me on this).

Use the stock cutoff wheel AT LOWEST SPEED SETTING to cut off the posts. If the plastic melts, you're going to fast or with too much pressure, so take it in small bites. If you jam the disc it will shatter and you'll be glad you wore safety glasses, sad if you didn't. If you still have problems with the stock cutting wheel then go buy these.

Once cut off, then use the drum sander tool to make it flush and clean.

This should put this question to bed. I took the measurement for the widest point on the H emblem where the current holes would have to be located and came up with 2.5" (Pic attached). So if you are saying the posts are 4.8" apart for the trunk emblem, the posts will need to be removed (unfortunately). I hope that doesn't impact the stability/ability to stay on the car once installed. I'm not exactly sure what the posts function is for if it has the sticky tape on the back.

Plenty of people put wings on their 2009-2014 Genesis hood without any posts, and no one has complained that it came off. Just make sure you don't wax that area of the paint before you put the wings on. There aren't any posts on the Genesis nameplate, etc and they stay on. All the emblems have the 3M tape that is an industry standard and pretty nifty, since it does a good job of holding, but can be removed without damage to the paint.

Not sure where you got the H in the pic you attached. Why can't the posts be on the edge of emblem?

Agreed however I recommend cleaning the area before application with rubbing alcohol.

I have both sets of wings handy and the measuremt C to C is 1 13/16" for the old style which worked on the flying H and must assume they did not change this design.

The new style pegs are 5 9/16" C to C

99.999999999% positive the new pegs will need to be ground down and fit just like we all needed to do for the previous gen hood wings.

I got the picture of the H from my car. They could put the pegs on the ring around the H but it's awful narrow. If they did, the measurement for the farthest point on the ring side to side is 4.75" which still if the case the posts were on the outer ring would not fit properly if the measurement posted for the posts is accurate at 4.8".

You are probably correct. But with 99.999999999% you are giving me 1,000,000,000 to 1 odds, so I will bet my one cent against your $10,000,000 that the posts on the wings fit in the existing holes.

Here's a pic from Cars.com of the trunk wing added to a 2015 5.0 at a dealership in Tempe. It's appears to be crooked, so maybe they removed pegs. It would be straight if the pegs were there... I would think. What do you guys think?

Based on the measurements and the pics I provided, I'm highly doubting the pegs will be in line with the holes in the trunk...I'll know soon after I get my wings.

I agree. If the badge was installed using the posts it would be straight. Any suggestions in how to align the badge to be straight without having the posts?

It might be a question of lighting. I am not sure it is all that crooked. Even on the first generation, there was a play in the holes that allowed it to be not perfect.

If there are no holes that line up, obviously you will first have to grind off the posts with a Dremel tool.

To align the wings, get some blue painters tape and lay it across the upper edge of where you want the badge to be. Then measure the tape (and use a level) to make sure it straight across. Do the same on the other dimension sideways. When the tape is perfectly positioned, then butt the emblem up against the tape and press firmly for a few minutes, and then remove the blue painters tape that was applied to position the wings. This is how it was done on the front badge for 2009-2014 Genesis (there are no holes in the USA hoods).
