  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I now own a 2015 Genesis!

If there are no holes that line up, obviously you will first have to grind off the posts with a Dremel tool.

To align the wings, get some blue painters tape and lay it across the upper edge of where you want the badge to be. Then measure the tape (and use a level) to make sure it straight across. Do the same on the other dimension sideways. When the tape is perfectly positioned, then butt the emblem up against the tape and press firmly for a few minutes, and then remove the blue painters tape that was applied to position the wings. This is how it was done on the front badge for 2009-2014 Genesis (there are no holes in the USA hoods).

A car is like a boat, a level does not work very well unless you know the ground you are on is in fact level and or the car. Measuring up and marking from a straight edge with tape will yield exact results. ;)

Good point. Although it might work if one could first put a level on the bottom lip of the trunk opening (near the bumper) and then compare that to the wings. But I agree that measuring should be done also.

You guys are right. That is first time I ever saw a Russian Hyundai website.

So I guess that only in Korea (aka KDM) is it sold as a Genesis brand (has no Hyundai badges on it). That is where the guys on ebay get the badges (they go to a Hyundai dealer in Korea and order the OEM rear badge and then import it to the US).

In Korea and Japan, luxury sedans by the domestic makes are basically their own sub-brands, hence, the Genesis and Equus each having their own special badging.

I don't know about Korea or the Middle East, but Russia definitely uses the Hyundai brand and flying H.

http://www.hyundai.ru/

The desire and urgency for many to remove the Hyundai branding from their cars is symbolic of the challenges the Genesis faces as it creeps into new territory where status is more prevalent. Clearly, brand prestige does play a role - in this case, as long as the value component holds, some will forgo driving a car because of status....just as long as the Hyundai logos go.

It wouldn't be so bad to have one H logo on the trunk if the H logo wasn't so derpy as it looks - truly one of the worst automotive logos ever (and some people think I'm on Hyundai's payroll).

Hyundai made a major misstep in not changing their logo in time for the 2G Genesis launch to something that looks more elegant/classy (i.e. - cleaner lines).

To me, the Kia badge looks better, even if that isn't befitting a luxury model (same goes for Ford's) - but the KDM K5/Optima badge would look perfectly fine on a luxury sedan.

Don't really like the shape of the winged Genesis logo either - a bit too ungainly, esp. for a winged badge that should look elegant/sleek.

And if Hyundai does end up launching a presumably Genesis branded sub-brand down the line, would that mean using the Genesis badging on everything, including the Equus, or does Hyundai come up w/ a separate logo for the sub-brand vs. the Genesis sedan (change the nameplate?).

I think they're past the point of no return on the "Genesis" sub-brand. You're right, Yeh, they are stuck now w/ Genesis and Equus being unique. They'd have to call it something else.

Things they need to fix re: badging and name recognition:

1. The flying H needs to take a flying leap. It really does derp down the premium brand image they're trying to build.

2. They'll get more real brand cache ́if they dump the (H) and let people actually do what they do. They ASK you what kind of car you drive and then say "WOW I never knew Hyundai made such beautiful cars!" Then when you tell them how great a deal you got for your 320/420+ HP ride, their eyes go wide. Then they price it on the internet, they get the full message. They test drive at the dealer and eventually show up here :D Or since the new '15 is now well past the price point of most family car buyers, they realize that they can get similar features-for-dollar value on Sonata/Azera/SantaFe and go that route.

2. Put one, just one small strip of chrome or that faux-brushed-nickel looking stuff on the tail of the car. Either at the very bottom or between the tail-lights. They went for the Audi look on the '15 and got Elantra instead. Of course when they were challenged on Think Tank re: the no-chrome tail the embarrassing silent confirmation said that once again someone very high up at Hyundai made the call, and once again F'd it up.

The guy who comes out with this add on accessory first is gonna make a killing on them.

The thing was, when Hyundai was readying the 1G Genesis for launch, they let the public vote on 2 diff. grill designs - one w/ the flying H and one w/o and overwhelmingly, the vote was for w/o that horrendous H.

That should have told Hyundai something even if they haven't yet realized (w/ their own eyes) that the Hyundai logo is just heinous.

How much are people out there paying to lease a 2015 Genesis? I'm interested in the RWD 3.8 liter version with the ultimate package (MSRP about $50,000). I'm willing to go 10% down on a 36 month lease with a 12,000 mile per year limit. What's a fair payment excluding taxes?

I just did mine tonight, and I used chalk line from the upper-outer corner of the inner half of the break light to the same spot on the other side. It worked great as a leveling line. Centering was easy enough to do by eyeballing the emblem from above and comparing the pointed tip on the top of the emblem to halfway between the holes you're covering up.

Hope that makes sense.

Until they are willing to negotiate prices some I'd personally wait, when leasing I always haggle the price of the car first then flip them into a lease deal based off those #'s.

Here is a good lease calculator, residual value of the car on a 3 year lease should be 48-51%... if kept in good condition @12k miles/yr.

People are willing to negotiate. I have no idea where you are, but I got a great deal at Classic Hyundai in Mentor Ohio. I drove about 80 miles after they made the best offer via email, but it was well worth it. Matt Miller was my salesperson if anyone is interested. It was a great low-key buying experience. The only "extra" even tossed at me was extended bumper-to-bumper by the finance guy and he gave it up as soon as he got a dead-pan "I'm familiar with the warranty terms, and I'm sure I'm not interested right now".

I definitely agree on haggling price and converting to lease. I would not mention leasing at all until that point.

Edit: Florida, I guess that's not so helpful...

Sounds like a great way of doing it. Will give it a whirl when I get my car.
