  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm a little surprised we haven't seen a comparison test between the G70 and new 3 series

Looks like the G70 is AWD and the M340 RWD. As well, the G70 has all season tires and the M340 has PS4s. Would be a nice comparison of they were the same spec. The M340 would still take it but they would certainly be even closer.

I was surprised that the M340 didn't pull away harder on the straights but that seems to be inline with Car and Drivers 30-50 and 50-70 stats that show the two cars are closer that we would think.

You interpreted Korean pretty well, only thing that you missed was that the M340i had pirelli P zero summer tires. So at the end, they were debating whether the G70 could be neck and neck with better tires but in the end, they concluded that even with summer tires on the G70, the M340i will likely still win.

No one should expect the G70 to beat the G20 M340i honestly. It might be closer once the new 3.5T gets added to the G70.

It did look like the G70 out-braked the M340 though. BMW just does wonders with a lower displacement engine (and somehow gets better fuel economy to boot). The engineers behind the blue and white propeller deserve some respect. That being said; this is just round 1.

I didn't feel the BMW pulled away that fast. It's faster but not as much as I thought..

While I respect your opinion and am absolutely content if we disagree, let me at least explain why I said what I said. Take a look at the moment when the BMW overtakes the Genesis right around the 5:41 mark (https://youtu.be/EdTyC-ZdnvA?t=341.). Once the M340I has a clear shot, it passes with ease. This doesn't appear to be a "creep by, neck and neck" race. It appears to be a "I'm about to run away from you and put 2-3 car-lengths on you by the end of the straight" type of race. And it proceeds to do exactly that.

Now, even though my Genesis pride is hurt a little bit, I'm encouraged by the results. Again, this is just round 1, and I would bet that each of the German manufacturers bought G70s for competitive analysis for the next generation. And as you mention, this isn't the 3.5 engine. In the parlance of some of my Millennial co-workers, "!@*t just got real."

You may be right, however at 5:41 it looked to me that the G70 was out of grip on that corner and if he put more power down the car would have exited the track. The BMW could carry much more speed with the summer tire.

Could be. Let's hope the blue-propeller folks are resting on their laurels. Can you imagine company trash-talk if they talked trash?

"Good job BMW; don't get comfortable."

It's not a propeller, that's a common misconception.
