  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm at a loss...

The table may be a real thing, just a term used for the device. A few years ago, and maybe still, Cadillac had a device that was fastened to the front sub-frame of the car. Then the body was raised up off the sub-frame. This sub-frame had the engine, trans, front frame, suspension, etc and could then be rolled where it could be disassembled to get the engine out to be worked on. The car had to stay on the lift that was used to raise it up off the sub-frame.
I have no idea if this is used on the G70, but it may/

At the dealership.now, and it really looks doable to get the turbo out. Infact, it looks like the manifold bolts are easier to get to than the downpipe studs were! It's got a fair bit of stuff in the way (ie intake piping, cold charge piping, oil and coolant lines), but once those are out I should be able to get the turbo out.

I'm gonna do this myself. Calling the tow company right now.
Good Luck Man! You can do this! When I read this this morning I got sick to my stomach, I feel for you. Started my spring install and had a few OMG moments. Well good luck again, and did you get the AEM intake installed?

Missed this post!!! That’s awesome man...great to hear.

Deep breaths...plan it out...take pictures...and be gentle. When you’re done with that...good luck on the car!!!

;)

Good to hear that things are looking up for you Toddasauras. Do you think you may still end up installing the downpipes once you get the turbo stud issue squared away? In a way at least then the whole ordeal leaves you with a nice upgrade instead of just nightmares about how badly things went for awhile. Totally understandable if you just sell them though given all the headaches up to this point.

Have not installed the intake. Lal aftermarket plans are on hold for the time being until I can get this squared away! Have you gotten your AEM intake yet?

I decided I'm just going to sell the downpipes. The passenger's side turbo downpipe was hard enough to get to, I don't even want to think about messing with the driver's side turbo/dp. It's not worth the risk for me.

Not to be a downer.

My suggestion is to get it all stock. It’s a fantastic car...enjoy it.

Enjoy the JB4.

Let your brain rest from this trauma...and reassess if you wanna do all this stuff in a couple of months.

I also wanted to do crazy stuff...but the piggyback is nuts enough.

If you feel it’s your hobby...Sudoku is a fantastic alternative (every morning baby).

After all that's happened, I have this picture in my head of you looking at the downpipes and saying, "fu*k this".

Got a garage now. Pulled the car in, rolled it up onto the ramps, got my tools, ready to get started - that is, after I put my daughter to bed. Hah.

Speaking of my daughter, she's only 3. Both my wife and I work full time. We have no family in this state, so we each do our own job taking care of her while the other is at work (night shift RN's, I work in the ER). Hopefully this better illustrates the stress and complexity of me working on my car.

Will be doing small bits, probably about and hour or two at a time. I'm hoping to chip away at it every day, and I'll post updates along the way.

Thank you for the well wishes, everyone.

But it's not a real thing.

But it's not a real thing.
Hyundai Dealer Solutions does have a variety of lifts and supports. They do have a 2500 power train lift for $4300. A powered one is $5400. Of course, a well equipped dealer would have that stuff and not charge it to the customer.

Okay, first night of working went very smoothly. Here is what I got done...

Removed lower engine splash guard...
IMG_20190904_190524.jpg

Removed engine bay radiator/bumper upper cover....
IMG_20190904_190855.jpg

Pulled radiator cap temporarily to drain the coolant...

IMG_20190904_191159.jpg

Airbox and strut brace removed...
IMG_20190904_191659.jpg

Intake elbow removed....
IMG_20190904_191910.jpg

Many already know this, but for those that don't know, most of the hose clamps have these special covers on the hex head. They just pop right off with a flathead screwdriver....

Turbo hot side charge piping elbow removed...

[Continued]

To remove the cold side charge pipe, you gotta first unbolt the pipe stay. There is also a small nipple with a vacuum tube that goes to a T that needs to be pulled, then you can undo the coupling from the throttle body, and then undo the elbow at the cold side of the intercooler...

Next, I started on removing the throttle body. By this time all the coolant had drained, so I tightened the drain screw and attached the radiator fill plug so not dust or debris gets in there. Now that the coolant system is (mostly) empty, I can undo the throttle body coolant lines...
IMG_20190904_194704.webp

I had the rags just in case, but no coolant spilled out.

After this, the throttle body is easy to remove, just 4 10mm bolts and it's out, easy peezy...

IMG_20190904_194945.webp

This is how it stands right now - much more room to see the turbo....
IMG_20190904_195107.webp

Next up are the turbo coolant lines. It needs a large hex key to undo the bolts, but there is very little room to do so. The top coolant bolt will be easy to remove, but the lower one needs some special attention. I am planning on cutting down my hex wrench to make it into a custom low-profile wrench, then I'll be able to undo the bolts. Here is my hex driver next to it to illustrate....

That's where I finished for tonight. I got a lot of the big stuff out of the way, the next things will start to become more tricky. I worry that the wiring harness will be in the way when removing the turbo's, but the other guy from the Stinger forum doesn't seem to have removed his harness at all, plus it seems very VERY difficult to move in that area of the engine bay. We will see.

More to come, hopefully either tomorrow or the day after.
