  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just traded 2010 BMW 535i for Genesis S460

The 2011 535i is about the same price as the 2010. My 2010 priced out a little over $61,000 when I bought it, so you have to ask, is it worth $20,000 more than the S460?
No it's not. The Genesis is a great value. The BMW is expensive and not really worth the extra money unless you can get into it without stretching. I'm fortunate to be in that position. I have been waiting for this car since 2003. If I was your accountant I would say buy the Genesis.

I am a genny lover but i must agree that BMW came hard with this one. They are determined to not let some Kor-Hyn make them out of a fool. But my suggestion to them is...Try harder because Hyundai is coming for everything that you have BMW. Get ready!

BAN!! :p

I agree that it looks better, the question is, does it look $9k better?

I dont know man...I just built one at www.bmw.com. With just the sport package and leather...we are at $54K...so in reality we are looking at $14K for starters...who knows what other options he has.

Its another $5K for the navi, rear view camera, rear shade and ipod hookup.

Its another $3K for heated and "ventilated" seats.

Its another $2k for parking assistant, auto high beams, lane departure warning...

Smart keyless entry is another $1K

Active Cruise Control is another $2.4K

And another $2200 for a basic maint. program.

Sheese... I built one with everything and it came out to : $83,045.

Wow! Must be nice! ;)

Wow, congrats!
You said you're 'thinking about getting one', and 12 hours later, you post a picture of a brand new bimmer in your garage? :D
Nice car! LOVE the new 5.
I gotta say, the new 5er looks more stylish compared to the simple, plain Genny.
Is it a 6MT? It better be!
How do you like it? How does it drive?
Mind giving us a short review?

Thanks,

Dan
Not a manual. I live in LA, sorry. When I get my next car, which is going to be something stupid, like a Porsche or a Z4, it will be manual.
I've only had it for a day, but the biggest difference between the two is ride quality and suspension dynamics. BMW nailed this one. You can adjust the steering, ride and roll bars, manually, which is what most Genesis owners probably dream of. Also the shoes on the Bimmer are considerably more snazzy.

Correct, there is a big spread. Naked it's 50k, fully loaded it's 84k. Neither of those two car exist. It's somewhere in the middle. This one is closer to the latter.

You read my mind. If you try and wait for the perfect car, at the perfect time, with the best technologies and the best financing rates. This is what you will get.

Am I the only one not crazy about the schnoz on that new 5-series? It's a sharp-looking car otherwise, but in profile the front looks chopped-off (it's not so bad from other angles, though). I don't doubt that the driving dynamics are spectacular, though; I'd love to drive one.

Yeah it looks like a shark. All bimmers are starting to look that way. Has something to do with pedestrian crash safety. I agree it looks a little weird, but it's too late now! BMW is having their drive events starting tomorrow I believe. Call your dealer and see if they have space for you, you can test drive them. From the bimmer forums they try and get previous E60 owners and are booked, but it depends on where you live.

Nice car - be sure to chip it!

I was thinking about an M3 convertible in a month... we'll see how that works out, BMW is offering some really nice rates on it...

Does the new 5 series have better side impact ratings? The previous gen had only a marginal rating on side impacts

Yeah the financing on this car is great. I bought it and was able to spread the payments over 2 years at 0.9%, which made it easier to swallow, as opposed to plopping down a a lot of money upfront . The caveat is that your credit has to be perfect and you have to have the right debt to equity ratio or else they're not gonna extend you that type of financing.
I don't think I will be chipping this car. I'm pretty old fashioned and don't really mess with them other than tint. Yeah I know the E60 (previous gen) 5 series rated avg to poor on side impact test for some reasons. Euro NCAP has given the new 5 the highest ratings.

Great looking ride TJ! ....just another car to detail!!!! HA!

Picked up the car today. Wife loves it. The only negative I have is the steering can't hold a candle to the BMW. Very little feedback from the road. Other than that, very happy. I can't imagine what the Equus will be like.

I already have the wings on the rear.:)

Yeah just what I need. More work.

Haha TJ, soon after I mention that 5 series forum in the other thread you end up with the freakin' car in your garage. That's pretty funny, in a positive manner of course. That's a nice ride !

Couple of things:
Try to give a comparison of the BUILD, to whatever extent you can. (Solidity, stitching, seams or door welds) Thats the kind of stuff I look at. Sounds stupid to some, but that is the vehicle.

I would'nt compare the driving dynamics, because I'm not stupid. However, It's not like Hyundai screwed up and cannot create kikass dynamics. Go drive a coupe 3.8 and toss it around.

The front end, IMO, is absolutely ON PURPOSE to go against the grain of trendy "flush" front ends that are a dime-a-dozen, and quickly becoming generic.

Your "Shoes" on the Genesis can easily be swapped out with identical dimension wheels/tires, if you want.

Another thing to remember is this is Hyundai's absolute FIRST TRY, and what the Acura Legend should of been two decades ago. That's not bad.

The car has a much steeper learning curve. There is so much gadgetry on this car it's making me dizzy. For example: say you park your car outside in the sun and you know you have to go and leave at 1pm. You can set the computer to vent the hot air in the cabin @ 12:30 for up to 30mins, when you get in the car at 1. Should be less of a sauna. Necessary? No:confused:. Cool? Yes.:cool:I'll write a full detail after the honeymoon phase is over.

Good deal fperra! Now get the front and wheel caps and your ready to go!

I'm jealous, TJ. :D
Yeah, the latest iDrive is just unbelievable. Now that's the kind of system I wouldn't mind paying a couple of grand for.
I wish we had a system like that for the Genny.
Enjoy your beautiful new ride and let us know how better or worse they are compared to the Genesis.
Driving dynamics comparison not necessary though. I'm sure the 5er is superior in almost every way. :)

It's yet to be determined. I just put on some ceramic tint and a Venturesheild Clear Bra. The only thins so far, is that throttle response is so immediate, you really have to press the gas pedal lightly or else you start taking off. BMW tells you to keep the RPM under 4k for the first 1200 miles, so I'll let you know after that how it goes. I'm pretty stoked so far. Until the bill comes

Take pictures when you can! You're going to love the Genesis. It may not be as sporty as the BMW, but it's certainly more comfortable..
