  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just traded 2010 BMW 535i for Genesis S460

It's yet to be determined. I just put on some ceramic tint and a Venturesheild Clear Bra. The only thins so far, is that throttle response is so immediate, you really have to press the gas pedal lightly or else you start taking off. BMW tells you to keep the RPM under 4k for the first 1200 miles, so I'll let you know after that how it goes. I'm pretty stoked so far. Until the bill comes

Yeah, once you start to get used to the lazy throttle response on the Genesis(although not as lazy as the Tahoe I'm driving as of now), other sportier cars will feel like it's too sensitive.
I miss the immediate throttle response from some of my older cars.

Looking forward to your review once you start to open her up!

It may not be as sporty as the BMW, but it's certainly more comfortable..

I think it depends on what aspects you consider comfortable.
The Genny is definitely bigger and spacious. In that respect, it's way more comfortable.

But I find the sport package seats of the BMW to be extremely comfortable. It's VERY adjustable, making it almost impossible to NOT feel comfortable.
Hugs me very well, and I love the seat bottom extension that supports your thighs.
Also, the Bimmer suspension is way more confidence inspiring, IMO.

In these two respects, I'd say the Bimmer is more comfortable.

Oh of course, the price tag on the BMW is not as comfy as the Genny. :D

Just my $0.02

You mean does it look 30k better. The question is no. You cant always rationalize a car purchase. If that was the case we'd all be driving 4 cyl Accords and Prius.

A blurb from today's edition of my local paper:

"BMW sells out revamped 5-series in all markets, forcing customers to wait three or four months for deliveries"

Most people on the BMW forums think it's BS marketing ploy to spur sales. What I keep telling people is that no they're not ALL SOLD OUT...

If you start shopping for a 535i you will quickly discover what I did. That the car you want isn't in stock. The car has been ordered by dealers in 1 of 3 ways. In terms of content, low, medium and high. The low is about 55-59. The med 60-64k. high, 67-71k. Most people shoot for the med. It presents the best amount of content and value. The low is missing some key features, sport package and the seats & Dynamic Handling. The high has too much content and is expensive. The med (goldilocks model) all sold. So you are basically left with the base model, which most people aren't gonna wanna settle for. Or the high model which is starting to bump into 7 series territory prices. This then forces people to either wait, or order a car. It's kinda like going to a sale a Marshalls, a bunch of Smalls and XXL. All the Med & Large are gone. 550i's are a different story. For obvious reasons, they're a little easier to find.

I know exactly where you're coming from! I was leaning toward the more luxurious comforts as opposed to the sporty comforts.. Big, wide, soft, open-air living room couch luxury, if you will. :)

Part of BMW's new business model is pushing people to special order cars vs buying them off the lot. This means two big things - buyers get the exact car they want, and BMW maximizes profits for itself and dealers. The other side of the coin is, you won't find a decent car on the lots easily, but that was always the case imo.

I find that when car models come with a large number of individually selectable options it makes for a very frustrating shopping experience, because the chances of finding the configuration you want quickly head towards zero as the number of available options goes up.

I much prefer when there are a few option packages. You may end up with some options you don't really care about, but at least it's easier to get the ones you want. (And some of the ones you thought you didn't care about can sometimes be pleasant surprises). And usually the bundled option packages represent a better value than having to select a bunch of individual options (especially if the latter means ordering from the factory).

I liked the fact that the Genesis 4.6 only has one option package.

Let's see the supply numbers, and customer order's for this year compared to 06' 07' 08'.

Normally I would agree with you, except for one thing: Sunroofs. Damn things cut down on head room that I need.

I don't need the height, but I resent having to pay for them. They obviously add significantly to the cost of the car, but I wouldn't give a nickle for one. Many of the cars I have owned over the past 20 or so years have come with sunroofs, and I never opened one of them. Solid roofs have superior strength and rigidity, and I prefer the total shade provided by a solid roof. I had serious and expensive leak problems with two of them to boot.

I wouldn't buy a car without a sunroof.

I don't think you can even find a car without a sunroof, at least not a car you'd want to drive for more than 5 minutes ;)

One of the reasons I passed on the 535/550 was because the 2011 hadn't been crash tested yet, and the crash test results for the 2010 model were underwhelming to me (both NHTSA & IIHS).

Hope the 2011 does better when it's tested.

Already been tested in Europe. Their standards are much more detailed. I would look at EuroNcap before the united states standards.

The base model Genesis does not have a sunroof. But I had to give up a lot of features I would have gladly paid for to get it.

I wonder if you could actually find a base model Genesis. I bet they are as rare as hens' teeth

Ol' TJ Park himself indulging himself. Nice TJ ! At least you put it in perspective for some of the complete idiots, although a few of them get it.

C&D Audi 1st, Infiniti 2nd, Bmw 3rd. This somewhat suprised me (I knew the new M was better than people realized), but the 535 just needed the better handling pkg obviously. Still, it shows you how darn good the others are. Also, this goes against C&D religion, so that is also saying something.

Bimmer owners don't really take Hyundai seriously. The stereotype is that they think, Mercedes owners like to drive expensive appliances. Audi owners, drive thinly veiled VW's. The only other acceptable brands are....Porsche or Ferrari.

Gotta represent! :eek::cool::grouphug:

There is an interesting items in the August Car and Driver. It compares the Audi A6 3.0T to a 2011 BMW 535i and a 2011 Infinity M37. They seem to prefer the Audi. In the same issue they also do a 40,000 mile review of their 2009 Genesis 4.6, it interesting comparing the performance numbers of the Genesis to the above three much more expensive automobiles.

I've always liked the BMW, except for the previous model but I have never understood the red instrument lighting. The philosophy confuses me and I think it should have been dropped years ago.
