Audi is a serious player. It used to be perceived as a second tier European brand. Selling AWD as the panacea. Kinda like Volvo selling crash worthiness as the sole reason to buy a car. I really like Audi interiors, and I think they have some amazing designs (S5). At the end of the day, I can't get on board with Audi products. If I'm gonna spend that much dough, I'm more partial to buying a Benz or a Bimmer, but that's just my personal opinion.
I did not want to get involved in the BMW-Audi fight, but rather, wanted to emphasize the comparison with the 40,000 mile Genesis. This is what I wanted to send Car and Driver, only I have not been able to do it.
"On comparing the stats from this comparison to the long term test of the Genesis 4.6 in the same issue, it seems too bad you did not include a used 40,000 mile Genesis in this showdown. From 0 to 60, it was only .1 second slower that the fastest BMW (the new Genesis was faster than any), and dusted off the competition to 100 mph, being almost a second faster than the competition. And, while tying the 1/4 mile time with the fastest two cars, it was still at a higher speed (again, the new Genesis had the fastest time). Braking it would have come in third, but hey, it has 40,000 miles under its belt. Skid pad, well, it was equal to the BMW and only .02 gs below the winning Audi.
Drive train warranty would probably be better on the 40,000 mile Genesis.
And the kicker. Being a 40,000 mile Genesis, it would probably be $30-40,000 cheaper than the competition. Even the new Genesis would be significantly cheaper than the BMW-Audi.
Of course, stats aren't everything and doesn't include the subjective, but it is still interesting, and impressive."
