Looking for pictures of Genesis rear lip spoiler installed

OK, I now have the Lip Spoiler installed, however it was not quite as easy for me as it was for Scottdk. Here is the story.

I ordered from the same place as Scottdk, and the Lip Spoiler came, painted perfect. So far so good. The problem I had was in the installation.

First off, that tape they supply will hold just about anything. Best tape I've ever seen. After cleaning the trunk lid, and measuring, and placing masking tape where I wanted the spoiler to sit, I removed the red backing from the tape, and very lightly placed the spoiler on the trunk lid. Note I said VERY LIGHTLY. Well, it was not quite where I wanted it, so I tried to remove the spoiler to re-position. Could not remove. That tape is something. It was less than a quarter inch off on one side, plus I did not like the way the tips of the spoiler sat, as it looked like they sat a little high, and I was afraid that something would catch on the tips when the car was being washed. Could not budge the spoiler or tape. Well, I left it like that for a couple days, but I just did not like it, so I got a bottle of soap, and some fishing line, and worked the fishing line under the tape, and after much work, managed to get the spoiler off. So far, so good. Next, I had to get the stickum from the tape off the trunk. Took me a long time, but I got it all off. Next I had to get the tape and stickum off the inside of the spoiler. This is where I ran into trouble. That tape just would not come off. (have to be very carefull not to use solvents that removes the paint). After working on it for a few days (in my spare time), I managed to get it all off. This was a lot of work.

Next, I placed the lip spoiler on the trunk, and I could feel exactly where it should be. The tips would be just a tad high if the spoiler was not placed perfect. I decided I would tip the rear of the spoiler up slightly, in order for the tips to lay flush on the trunk. (I purchased some 3M double tape at my local Advance Auto). I proceded to cut a very small piece of tape and placed it on each tip always leaving red backing on. Then placed spoiler back on trunk for "a fitting". Then cut more tape and placed lightly on spoiler and more fittings. If I did not like the position, I would move the tape. On the forward portion of the spoiler, I did not place as much tape as I did on the rearward portion of the spoiler. After much trial and error, I was happy that it would fit perfect, once I took the red backing off the tape. (I had already cleaned the trunk lid with Rubbing Alcohol).
Now, knowing that my first try a few days before did not work because as soon as the tape touched the trunk, it stuck fast, I decided to install it a different way.

I removed the red backing, sprayed the tape with water, ran water on the trunk, and placed the lip spoiler on the trunk with everything wet. With it wet, I could move it to the exact position needed. Once in position, I pushed hard to make it stick as best as it could while wet. I then placed masking tape over the spoiler to keep it from falling off. (not really needed as it was sticking pritty good by now). I next wiped off all the water with a towel. Made sure that it was in the perfect location, and that the tips were not sticking up. Pressed down some more. Now I just let it sit in the garage until all the moisture on the tape evaporated. This is what I should have done in the first place.

If anyone buys this lip spoiler, first make sure the fit is perfect and if not, remove some of the tape, or perhaps add tape to the rearward portion to set the tips as low as you can. Then stick it to the trunk WHILE WET WITH WATER, otherwise if you don't get it perfect the first time, there will not be a second time.

BTW, the Lip Spoiler looks great.

I'm sorry to hear about the problems you had with the install, but I'm very happy that you were able to MAKE it right by problem solving and getting the results you desired.

Adding more detail to when I actually was about to peel off the red stuff covering the tape, I figured out that I was not going to be able to align the spoiler by measuring the trunk etc, etc. since the car was not designed completely by a man with a ruler thank God, (CTS is :)) So what I did was set the spoiler on the trunk (without removing the backing for the tape) as straight as my eyes could tell and as even on on side of the spoiler to the end of the trunk and same on the other side. Than I placed masking tape on trunk at the very end of the spoiler on each side of the spoiler. At least this allowed me to know where to place the spoiler after I peeled off the backing.

Basically, I had to rely on eyeballing it and the aid of the masking tape on the trunk to set the spoiler in between and somehow it came out perfect and I knew I wouldn't have a second chance if I messed up. It might be easier to actually apply the spoiler on the car with another person so than each person could be on the end of the spoiler, but I think that may also be difficult as you do not have the rear visual needed to place the spoiler center on the trunk.

Hope you posted some pics on your user CP, or send me some.:)

Nice work, nice work.

Looks great.:)

Thanks for the pics! Could someone w/ the lip spoiler please do me a favor and take a pic from the side from a bit further back. I'd like to see how it flows when viewed from the side. I would *REALLY* appreciate it. I'm having a hard time deciding if I like the lip spoiler or not based solely on the closeup shots I've seen.

Example of the type/angle of shot I'm asking for:

MADDMOE Nice ride
What did you use to cover the 'H' on the V8 18" wheels with the GENESIS badge?

Nice work Mark! It now looks proper.

IMO, this car doesn't look right without a spoiler, which is what motivated me to buy one.

Just right click on one of your pictures and click copy and than in the box that you typed in your post right click again and hit paste

I must have done something wrong in a past life. On 12 May I ordered a rear spoiler painted in AT - Pearl White, they followed up with a confirmation on 12th. On the 18th, I requested the status of my order since it requires 2-3 for painting. They replied the order has shipped and provided a UPS tracing #. Yesterday I checked the tracking info only to see no information on movement. I contacted CARiD shipping about the status of my order only to be told, it has not shipped since they are having trouble matching the paint. I asked why does it show shipped if it hasn't? He said they assign a tracking number, but that's all he can tell me. I asked to speak with a supervisor, he replied he is not available. I asked to speak with the manager...he promptly hung up on me.

Not sure if anyone has had these problems, but I only wanted them to honor what is listed on their website, and not give me stories.

Thanks for letting me vent

Bump.....

So what was the result?? Did you receive your spoiler and install it??

Received about 2 weeks after I posted. It is now installed and looking good...if I might say. Now awaiting the arrival of my new bundle of joy..Magnaflow exhaust!!!

Coming soon. I made it to lip up a little higher and wrap around the trunk a little lower.

WOW!!! Those lip spoilers look great!! Gonna get me one. For that price, the effect is well worth it.

So I was on eBay grabbing the 17" wing emblem wheel caps (4 for $27 shipped!: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HYUNDAI-GENESIS-ALUMINIUM-17-WHEEL-HUB-CAP-1PCS-/270634711945) and I noticed a CHEAP lip spolier for the Genesis. $48 painted & shipped straight from Korea.

Normally I'd be wary, but I'm on a run of getting quality stuff from Asia for crazy inexpensive. I recently bought a bunch of authentic NFL game jerseys for $20 each, reg price $289 each. So I'm thinking, it's only $50, lets roll the dice. If the quality is very low (reviews for the seller are great), then I'm only out $50. If it's passable, then I just saved $200. What do you guys think?

More pics of the rear wing. Not sure of the price, but fitment is great.
