  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Loose Leather on Driver Seat

Ok... One more roll call...

The 2012 V6 base drivers seat squeaked. Now my new 5.0 with 2.7k miles has been squeaking for about 1k miles. Same sound comes from springs when moving down the road and/or moving in the seat slightly.

Anyone else have the same thin happen?

No squeaky for me.

And I have a roll call question. To find out more data.

Roll call... Those with seat problems, do you have cooled seat? Does this make a difference in the reports here?

Any poor leather performance on passenger and rear seats?

Mine has cooled seats. Which means they have to have a special way to get the air flowing from the bottom? Jamming padding in at a dealer would mess that up?

Heated and cooled drivers, heated passenger. Don't even get me started on why there was never a cooled option for the passenger.

Rear seat is fine with two grown boys tagging along for dinner once in a while.

Keep the roll call going... Thanks for the feedback so far.

I have a 2009 without cooled seats (and without premium leather that comes with Tech Package on 2009 V8's), and same stretched leather situation as everyone else is reporting.

I have read in some older posts that people have mostly fixed the problem by making the seat damp and then heating the seat with a hair dryer to shrink it. I haven't bothered to try it, since mine is not as bad as some and it doesn't really bother me.

Thanks for the report.

My seat's quite wrinkled, too, but I figure it's just trying to tell me what I'm going to look like soon.

I have a bit on my Equus-first dealer said that it was not a workmanship issue and they wouldn't repair it, but second agreed with me, will monitor the stretching, and told me the 2013 Equus has different leather.

I went to autotrader.com and ebay and started looking at pictures. Every one had what I consider to be excessive stretching.

When comparing against other makes (Lexus, BMW, Mercedes) I didn't see anywhere near this level of wear.

My buddy owns a 2012 Cadillac ATS and I showed him my seat today an he was appalled by what he saw.

Here is his seat at 3500 miles.

Is the root cause of the stretching seats the foam underneath the leather not being dense enough, the leather too soft, or a combination of both?

It would be good to get an upholstery shop's professional opinion.

Even my GM cars didn't stretch this much.

Has anyone been able to verify that the 2013s are any different, as the dealer told me for the 2013 Equus?

Any idea on who Hyundai's vendor is on these seats?

I was looking to buy the wife a Genesis R-Spec, but will hold off until I see this issue remedied in upcoming models.

I have a new 2013 Genesis 3.8 with Premium and Tech package and have the same problem with the drivers seat. Only 400 miles on the car. Actually when I picked up the car (which my dealer sourced from another dealer) with only 133 miles on it you could see the loose leather on the drivers seat. So I would say the problem is not resolved.

I was at the Infinity dealer last night browsing the lot and I saw no indication of seat deformation on ANY of the pre-owned G37's and M56's.

I looked specifically for the highest mileage car and it was a G37 with leather at 25,000 on the clock and no signs of wear at all on the seat.

I was going to take pictures but there really was no need to was there?

Also paid a visit to Mercedes Benz, Porsche, BMW, and Audi right afterwards all in the same local area and found the same results. No leather/foam sag.

And just for FUN, I went to Chevrolet and Ford!:D

Ditto......

Mine is the exact same. Hyundai has me scheduled for a local upholstery shop next week.

This is total chaos. The dealer I went to service writer insists "I never heard of such a thing". He went out and looked at the car, and set a appointment for two weeks out (my timing). I asked if they would be replacing the whole seat with a new revised one.. He kinda smiled and said we will see when the car comes in. I said you already saw it, get a new seat. I do not want to wait while people fool around. Get it done before I get there. I hope to hear an answer next week.

I do not like the idea of going to a local shop to stuff some padding in and mess up the cooled seat.

And BTW, bought oil filters at the dealer. And guess what? The parts guy went and got my serial number first. Them sold me the wrong ones. Which of course I did not know until the filter was out. Will post pictures and update on the oil filter thread.

Dfleener... When was your car produced? Mine is a early 2012. Made in OCT 2011.

Thanks guys for all the competitive seats. Good in case someone decides to become a liar about this being "normal".

Anyone else with a squeaking seat? Mine is getting worse by the day. Now louder than the V6 I had from Hertz for a long time before buying mine.
