  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Mirror tap for radar detector

Did you figure out which one to tap for power? Ordered my taps and planning on installing next week. All the different threads I read were saying 6 for ignition power and 8 for ground.

Those are the appropriate locations to tap. The detector does not turn off immediately after turning the vehicle off. It remains on for an unknown period of time. If I park the car at night and return to it in the morning, the detector is off and goes through its normal powerup cycle once I open the doors. So it was off for an unknown period of time. I'm good with that.

So I just tried to install and couldn’t get the taps in. I ordered the Invisicord with the micro taps but couldn’t get the power in. The ground seemed to go in ok. I gave up on it for today, I didn’t want to break the tap (started to bend). Any suggestions?

One of the taps, can't remember which one, didn't quite seem to seat properly. I basically held it in place while I put the connectors back together and everything has been fine since then. I do remember bending one of the taps as well.

I used pin 8 for the ground and pin 6 for the power. That way it will turn off when I turn the car off.

Do you have the schematic for the 2017 G80 3.8 mirror? I cant find that one and your g70 is what I am looking for.

Need some help with a 2020 3.3t sport g70. Harness is different than any pics or diagrams I've found. 8 pins and different colors than what I've seen on here.

I don’t know, since they must have changed up the wiring colors and placement. Maybe check with the service department and see if they can tell you. The diagram for the 2019 G70, I found it in the Kia Stinger Group. The service department should definitely know the set up.

I can confirm! Wish I saw this today before doing my install lol. Tap into pins 8 (ground) and 10 (live) using the schematic posted here for last year's model.

I did 8 and 6...I could not get into 10 with the taps I had, which is fine because I can simply unplug the little power cord if needed or I can use the power off button on my R3...and I think there is an auto power off on the unit anyways so I should be fine all around.

Does it still power on when you start the car? I was considering doing 6 and 8 as well but was afraid that I would have to manually turn the unit on everytime I start the car.

Excellent choice! Dont know how long you've had it but Uniden posts firmware updates regularly on their website and they're easy to update the detector

Well I am still experimenting. If it has auto power off on the RD then possibly, but it depends what triggers it to turn back ok. I only suggest it might have auto off because I left it plugged in after lunch and when I went to leave for the day it was turned off...but I dont remember turning it off. But to my knowledge if I leave it on it will stay on otherwise I either press the power off button or unplug it.

Long story short, as of now, you do have to turn it on or plug it in everytime. I dont mind it, my main goal was to clean up the mount and install

Two weeks. I havent played around with it too much but so far so good! I like how it looks too.

Yes. Here is the wiring diagram.
What kind of tap did you use? I’m trying to reuse the tap I had on a previous vehicle and the prongs (even the smallest set) will not slide in.

How do you mute when you tap the mirror for power? I couldn't live without my mute switch.

My radar has a mute button on the face of the unit, along with mute memory that is GPS based.
