MUST SEE VIDEO! Equus test drive review & Hyundai Korea wants seperate luxury brand!

VIDEO: The auto industry show AUTOLINE DETROIT just released their test drive review of the Korean market Equus. Also includes a quick interview with Dan Badore of Hyundai USA.

Key details in interview

- Hyundai Korea wants separate luxury brand.

- Only V8 Equus coming to the US.

This is probably the only video test drive of the Equus on the web. Definitely worth watching.

Great video. Thank you! So no V6 for America - that's fine. This car is too big for a V6. It just IS. And Korea wants a luxury brand in America.. Since Hyundai USA doesn't want it - I bet they're really considering a sub branded Equus without "Hyundai" badges on it...

Nice video. Thanks for sharing. I saw one at Pugi in Illinois when I was shopping for my Genesis. I almost broke the bank buying the Genesis and I will NOT rob a bank to acquire an Equus (but I sure would like one).

Ok...the more I see this car, the more me thinks I will be upgrading. Sure can't wait to test drive one.

Nice review, thanks for posting :)

I agree that the Equus is too big/heavy for the current V6. However, if they offered an upgraded version of the 3.8l Lambda V6 mated to their 8-speed automatic w/ GDI (direct injection) and approx. 330-340hp I would get it. I know that makes me a bit of an oddball, but I've never been the type of guy that has to have a V8. It would still theoretically be faster than the A8. ;)

On a side note, I was shocked to read that MB is building a 4-cylinder S-Class. I know they've offered V6 models overseas for years, but a 4-cylinder just seems out of sync w/ the car (e.g. unrefined).

I hear ya. That would be cool with me.. As for Mercedes, they won't sell a 4 cylinder S-Class in America for a long time... Just my guess...

I went to Rick Case in Davie, FL yesterday to take a look at the Equus. All I can say is, "It is one beeeeautiful car." The salesman that I spoke to said that whatever the list price is, they would be charging more than list price. You can be sure that if I ever get one it won't be at Rick Case.

It's amazing to me that dealers don't realize that tacking on a "market adjustment" above MSRP does them more harm then good.

Booooo! :(

I've buy a Lexus LS460L AND a Mercedes S550 on principle alone...

Anyway......

i do agree with the guy that Lexus has to watch out. of course, that's only if the Equus can substantially undercut the LS460 in price and features.

it sure must suck to be Lexus these days. after doing the right things for 20 years and being the best selling luxury brand for most of the last decade, they're finally seen as first tier and start raising their prices. then the economy goes into the toilet, and they're starting to be outdone by a non-luxury brand in Hyundai. now they have to go back to being value luxury again, which will probably have an effect on BMW and Mercedes-Benz as well. i'm loving it.

isn't the next generation LS going to come out for 2011 as well? it's going to be 5 years for the current generation. whether they're ready or not, i think the Equus will force Lexus' hand, and the new LS will probably be cheaper (but better with more features) than the current one. Toyota will probably also release their new Camry (again cheaper) earlier just like they did the current one.

The Lexus LS isn't up for a redesign for at least another 3 years. 2010 sees a re-fresh that looks pretty nice. It actually brings the car back down to a more "bland" look - which happens to be what most people buying a Lexus LS want.

I like what Hyundai is doing here and I hope this new "luxury" thing works out for them. It'll bring the competition's prices down to more realistic levels for awhile - but once Hyundai raises the prices to where they're likely headed, the Genesis will be a $60k vehicle (fully loaded) and the Equus will be an $85k vehicle fully loaded. Then all the prices will go up again across the board.

I agree and would walk before paying it. That's my emotional rather than a logical reaction. If you think about it, it's really unfair to the dealers. We love it when supply and demand makes them offer deep discounts but can't deal with it when it works the other way. The "market adjusted prices" are ususally based on scarcity.... some buyers consider "exclusivity" an important feature and are willing to pay for it.

Equus is better than that.
I think the Equus looks better than ALL of 'em - and that's not "fanboy" speak.

Re: MUST SEE VIDEO! Equus test drive review & Hyundai Korea wants seperate luxury bra

Honestly, which looks best out of all these?

Re: MUST SEE VIDEO! Equus test drive review & Hyundai Korea wants seperate luxury bra

I agree... Just look at the lines & curves over the rear end of the car... Its really got a cab rearward design.. and very fluid lines. Its simple, and doesn't look plain at the same time.

I used to be a lexus guy, and I loved my 2001 IS300. I hated the directon they took with the new IS going with blander look. It does seem that Lexus is going in that direction, and I agree that the new LS looks like a Ford Fusion.....

I REALLY think Equus is MUCH better looking than Lexus LS460.
