  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

New GV70 - Possible Issue - A/C not cold on driver side vents

I was just told a small rock came through the grill of my 24 GV70 and put a gash in my condenser unit leading to no pressure and therefore no AC. Anyone else? I’m thinking there is a major design flaw here. What would prevent this from happening over and over with highway driving?
It's pretty rare, but it does happen. It seems that it happens more to some cars than others. I recall a particular BMW model a couple of years back that was having this problem a lot.

F150 has the same issues. Toyota tacomas have the same issue. A.C. Condensers need cool air, the aluminum lines are susceptible to punctures. You hit the lottery.

My 2022 GV70 2.5T Select PKG has developed the same A/C problem as of two days ago…

There are four dash vents… the two driver side dash vents have started blowing luke warm air…

The two passenger side dash vents are still blowing very cold air…

I normally set the A/C to 65° in the summer… and both the passenger and driver side are synced together…

All the A/C control panel settings are correct… I spent 20 minutes changing/adjusting every possible setting… with no positive results…still luke warm air from the two driver vents… and cold air from the two passenger vents…

Normally the A/C provides very frigid air to the passenger cabin when it’s working properly… this is possibly one of the best A/C systems I’ve ever had in a vehicle… and I’ve owned dozens of vehicles…

Probably time for a visit to my Genesis dealership here in Houston… hopefully Brian with Genesis of Southwest Houston can diagnose and repair the climate control system in my GV70…

I had similar issues with my 2021 G80. Last summer the AC was completely out and they had to replace the compressor. Then days after the driver side was not cooling as well. I took it back and they said the "schrader valve" was causing a small leak. They replaced it and recharged the coolant. It was good for the rest of last summer but earlier this summer the driver side was not as cool again but only slightly. Took it back, again, and said they couldn't find any leaks and the coolant was a little low so they refilled it. I documented all that on emails with them and told them if it happens next summer they would have to find the root cause. I have a CPO with extended warranty so it will still be covered.

I love the car but I'm very disappointed with the quality issues. JD Power just released their 2024 3-year reliability survey, which looks at 2021 models. Genesis moved from at or near the top brand the last couple of years to below average (presumably with the major redesign in 2021).

I assume that you really mean the refrigerant. Coolant is what is in the radiator for the engine. Refrigerant is what is in the AC system.

I hear more folks saying cars they bought that were built during the height of the pandemic are having all kinds of issues.

If I was in market for a used car, I'd avoid any cars built on or around that era like, pardon the pun, the plague.

I have the same exact vehicle with the same exact problem so if you get it solve feel free to share and I will do the same.. Great Vehicle overall though!!
My vehicle just started this and I haven’t had 1023 GV70 a year yet. This is making me second guess this vehicle off in advance.

Yes, I meant the refrigerant. Thanks for the correction.

Makes perfect sense why anything made during the height of the pandemic is failing more than pre-pandemic and stuff made several years after.

My friends '21 Pallisade has several gremlins that the dealer can't figure out.

Never thought about that but certainly would have an effect when you lose some well trained and skilled workers. Or the usual spare tire guy is now installing the head unit.

Yep. Add to that the supply chain was a mess so who knows what (if any) shortcuts were made just to get the car off the line and in car lots.

Interesting. Mine is blowing cold air in all area's. I shut down the rear vents completely. Tons of col air even on fan setting # 2. Here in Phoenix if I had an A/C issue I'd know about it quickly :) .
Agree. I have a GV60P but I am amazed at how quickly the AC can cool down the car. I came to a GV60P after driving BMW sedans which, being sedans, have a smaller cabin to cool. Even if I have been playing golf, and the car has therefore been sitting in a parking lot for five plus hours in 110 temperatures here in Scottsdale, it still cools down the car in a couple of minutes and I find myself turning down the AC fan speed at that point in time.

So if yours doesn't correct quickly, you definitely have a service issue.

True, they can easily test the temp. coming out of the vents for you. 100 degrees in Georgia...cools pretty quick.

If you have an instant meat thermometer you can set it on the vent and get a good temp reading.

My A/C problem was resolved this week…

A new evaporator assembly was installed by Genesis of Southwest Houston… the original evaporator was leaking…

I highly recommend Genesis of Southwest Houston… my A/C problem was resolved very quickly…and they provided a loaner car… definitely a 5-star service experience!!

I have the exact same problem on my 2023 that started today after 21k miles. I usually go to Genesis of Southwest Houston for service. Did you have to wait for the part to be ordered and how long did they have your car for?

I'm not sure if this applies but I noticed something the other day. I always disable the auto start/stop feature. The other day I forgot to do it. I noticed that the A/C got warmer when stopped and the engine shut down. Then got colder when I started moving again when the engine started back up. I've never noticed this with the auto start/stop feature disabled.

The AC compressor is driven by the engine. There's no way that it can cool when the engine is not running.

Thanks, that's understandable. I'm just wondering if this is some people's "issue". If so, it's not really an issue.
