  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Any one have any issues with 2009 genisis brakes lights not working?

Check the fuse(s). Don't know where it (they) are, but I'm sure that the location is posted somewhere in the owners manual.

If you are close to your dealer, take it there. Probably a warranty issue.

On many cars (don't know about our Genny's), the brake lights and dash lights are on the same line. In other words, when a fuse goes out that dumps your dash lights, the brake lights are also out, and vice versa. Still worth a check, and maybe by the dealer (i.e., warranty).

take it to the dealer. it prob. needs a new stop lamp switch.

Agreed,I read about Hyundai having issues with stop lamp switches for all their models, not just the Genesis.

I have a 2009 4.6 genesis and my brake lights don't work! I have 32,000 miles and someone rolled down their window and let me know today. I checked the stop lamp fuse, 10 Amps, but it was OK. I guess there might be a relay, but I just might take it in. Everything else seems to work.

There is a currently active discussion of this problem in the "Electrical" section of this forum.

The problem apparently does not involve a fuse or switch but a diode in the brake light wiring. My car's tail lights come on okay when I turn them on, but the brake lights are inoperative all the time.

Take your car into dealership for warranty work. Tell them to check out z01 diode. It probably shorted. Same happened to mine but they fixed it in 40 minutes

Ditto for me too! bad single diode - fixed in the truck area, under the carpet/mat.

Genesis is wonderful car but surprised that it does not have an indicator when there is a malfunctioning headlight or tail light. Would be a welcome addition to next model.

I also had a brake light problem - rear lights worked but brake lights didn't. I took it to the dealer on a Fri. afternoon. After about two hours of trying to figure out what was wrong, they were going to order a new computer and rent me a car for the weekend (they were out of loaners) when a tech discovered a TSB for a diode under the dash near the steering column. They ended up replacing it with a diode from a used '09 on the lot.

I just found out my brake lights don't work on my 10 Gen. I have had 2 steering wheel tilt switches, 1 battery and now a BIG safety issue with the brake lights and they gave you a used part. I am loosing faith in Hyundai. Seems like they have electrical issues.

Was there a warning light on dash concerning brake lights not working?

I have a 2009 Genesis and this happened 2 times in 2 months. Theres a brake diode that goes bad .Take it to the dealer and its a free fix.

This also happened to me last week... fortunately a Samaritan flagged me down on the interstate to let me know. I called Hyundai Roadside Assistance to have the vehicle towed to dealership the following morning.

Even after I informed him about the TSB for the diode, the service manager insisted it was probably just the brake light switch above the pedal and that they'd have me fixed inside of an hour. Three hours later and on the 2nd switch, they finally decided to give me a loaner and work on the diode instead.

It's fixed, but frankly, I wonder why these things seem to be more complicated than necessary. ::sigh::

A Good Samaritan followed me into a parking lot last night and told me my brake lights were not working. Since I normally drive my car alone, I have no idea how long I've been driving around without brake lights.

I suspect the diode problem described in this thread is my problem as well. It is Memorial Day weekend. Oh, great....

With all the bells and whistles built into modern cars, I would think that they would have a warning system informing you that brake lights and/or headlights have failed. This is a HUGE safety issue, not that brake lights alone will protect you. 30 months ago I was sitting behind a woman making a left turn on a long country road and a young man came straight down the road into me at 35mph, totally crushing the back of my car (rendering it a total loss) and banging me up pretty good. My brake lights were working at the time. But suppose they were not? The concerns are both safety and legal.

I'll let y'all know what happens.

No warning what-so-ever!

Unfortunately it's not the lights themselves that don't work, as the lower intensity lighting (when your headlights are on) is still functional. It's different than the old style light bulbs that could be detected when the circuit wasn't complete... these lights still work, but don't get bright at the depression of the brake pedal. Therefore, it's more difficult to diagnose or show an indicator on the dashboard.
