  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Noise on acceleration between 110 Kmph to 120 kmph - Hyundai Genesis 2015

Husam, my service manager drove two new 3.8's with RWD and duplicated the whine. He then demonstrated it to a Hyundai engineer and was told that it is intrinsic gear noise in the transmission. I guess we are stuck with it.

Not really.. my service manager and the service engineer test-drove my car and were able to identify the noise.
They've just replaced the tensioner but I didn't receive the car yet. I'll get it tomorrow and I will test it. Let's hope it gets fixed.

I'll keep you posted.

Thank you,

I've noticed a noise when I dip into the throttle in my V8 and it gets exponentially louder as I pass 80 - 90 - 100 - 110 MPH. It comes from the passenger seat and sounds like a woman screaming. :D

That's exactly the same whining sound/noise I am hearing when I dip into the throttle in my V6 between 110 and 120 KMPH. It seems to be heard only when you dip into the throttle. Have you figured it out yet? let me know.

The dealer workshop have replaced the engine belt tensioner and no luck! the same sound/noise is still noticed. I gave the car back to the workshop for further investigation.

Thanks,

Have you figured it out? some forums say it could be the fuel pump!

Thanks,

Apparently the dealer decided to replace the Transmission. I am expect to get the car back in a few days and I'll let you all know.

Thanks,

Finally the car is fixed. The whining noise/sound is gone.

The dealer has replaced the Transmission and the Differential.

A team of Korean engineers arrived to Dubai and worked on the car.

Thanks,

Glad to hear it's fixed!

Awesome news. Thank You for following up with us. Much appreciated.

I am impressed with Hyundai's responsiveness. As a new Genesis owner and a first-time Hyundai owner, this response really impressed me.

Congratulations on your repaired car. Thanks for sharing your story. Now drive it like you stole it!

I am having a similar problem with my build date 3/28/15 3.8. I sure hope it doesn't mean a transmission replacement!!!

tomrhyne, after hearing about Husam's replacement of transmission and differential, I wondered if you are still living with the whine? Has it gotten any louder? If it remains as minor as it is now and not going to cause further problems, I'm tempted to try and live with it.

After having replaced the transmission and the differential, the whine is reduced but not completely gone. However, it is reduced. The issue comes only with all Hyundai Genesis 2015 v6 models, not the v8. And its related to the differential mainly, where it is designed in such as way that (unintentionally) caused some whine (or resonance) to manifest at certain speed range, which is unavoidably present! I hope this helps.

Glad I have a V8 :D

Try reproducing this, but with the HEAT on blowing hard. Not the A/C or the air on cold, just with the AC off and the blower set to hot and at max setting. See if it still makes the noise.

I don't know where you are at, but this sounds to me like it's just really hot outside and the cooling fan is turning on normally. Turning on the heat will redirect coolant to the heater core (effectively an extra radiator inside the car)

Sorry no issues with my v6 AWD.... I couldn't be more happy with my Genny

I apologize for not responding to this earlier. The whine is still there but I consider it an acceptable annoyance and will live with it. It hasn't gotten any louder.

New member here, recently purchased a 2015 Hyundai Genesis RWD 3.8 Ultimate. Empire State Gray / Black. Love the car.

I am resurrecting this old thread because I'm hearing the same whine noise at light acceleration in the similar 50-70 mph range as this original poster.
Whine only occurs at speed and light acceleration and pitch changes with drive train revolutions, higher RPM higher pitch.
No whine without load, at lower speeds, or at hard acceleration.

Has there been any further diagnosis and root cause identified? If so what is the diagnosis? Differential? Tranny? Intake?
Any status of the repairs?

Thanks

I remember back in 1994 Ford used the same excuse on a whine in the Taurus SHO transmission that later resulted in 225,000 cars being recalled and having their transmissions replaced after 20,000 of them were Lemon Lawed across the US..

just sayin'
