  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

oil change info 5.0 in pics

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I have a 2015 with 5.0. How many quarts of oil will it take for a oil change with new filter change as well?

No offense intended, but that type of info is readily and clearly available in your user's manual - you should have a hardcopy, you can easily get the e-copy and it's available in the AV system of the car itself! So you can access it faster than asking here (and know, with confidence, that you have the correct info). Not saying folks can't ask questions here, but likely they could save themselve time by just reading/referencing the manual on the basic stuff.

Where is the oil filter located on the 2015 5.0 engine? (and this is not in the owner's manual).

I bought one of those online pdf shop manuals for $17 just for this sort of thing but it is next to useless.

thanks

First post of this thread has a picture of it. The housing is black plastic with a large hex "nut" on the end of it. It is off the bottom front of the engine block. You need to remove the front underbody panel to reveal it.

Too bad - likes like a hassle and a messy one at that.

The service mgr. at the dealer where I bought the car assured me it was on top the engine like my Sonata, and even easier to access.

Gee - would a dealer lie to you?

p.s. - would you know what size wrench the filter housing takes? My 1500 page pdf manual calls it a "drain bolt" - but no size given.

The 2009-2011 Genesis V6 had the oil filter on top, but switched to bottom in 2012. The Genesis V8 has always been on the bottom.

I believe it is 27mm. You can buy a 27mm socket at most auto part stores, or there are some filter wrenches that designed to fit the filter housing that the Genesis uses (housing is made by Mahle and used by several different auto manufacturers).

Thanks much to everybody.

Autozone is my source for oddball sockets.

I bought 21 mm deep sockets there for a humongous breaker bar that I keep in the trunk (lug nuts)

For do it yourselfers:

The V8 oil filter removal requires a 6 mm hex wrench to remove the little drain bolt at the end of the filter cap and the filter cap itself takes a 24 mm. socket.

The filter cap is fluted for a cup wrench - but it's a rather specialized item and not available yet, to my knowledge.
