However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Oil Consumption in '12 R-Spec

Don't get me wrong. I wasn't trying to trash your opinion. I was honestly curious. I am always looking for better ways to maintain my vehicles and I wanted to make sure there wasn't some new big issue with Mobil 1.
As mentioned I had an issue with Royal Purple a few years ago. I was an avid RP customer. Then one day I did an oil change and my truck seemed, we'll just different. So I opened her up after about 15 mins of driving and all the oil had turned to a very very thin foam. Looked almost like suds from dish soap. So I started doing some reading and found that most people had started to experience the same issue around the same time. And all noticed performance issues. We all figured they changed their formula. And many of us changed oils just to be safe. That is when I decided Mobil 1 would be the one I'd use.

Mobile 1 is piss water. It has no zddp or any real anti-wear additives that it used to have. Mobile 1 used to be pretty good back pre-2000's. Reputable engine builders won't touch the stuff along with Royal Purple.

Ok. So what is your preference. And what do these "reputable engine builders" recommend?

Here is another more recent oil review recommending Mobil 1.

The short version of the review is use whatever mainstream brand you want. They are all so close it's not really going to matter. The only time you will ever truly notice a difference in oils is if you compare non-synthetic to synthetic.
Bottom line. Use synthetic. Whichever namebrand you find cheapest.

Nonsense. They have as much ZDDP as other oils with the same API classifications.

If you want more ZDDP than what the newer API classifications allow, use the Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel 5w-40 oil with 1100 or 1200 ZDDP. It is also classified for spark engine SM, SL, and SJ.

Oh Noooooo! not again "what engine oil is better"!

:D

LOL. For that one word crap it brought back the "pointless" which oil is better debate.

It is subjective. Use what works.
Also you are right though, the companies do also change formula.
So it all depends on when you are using that particular oil.
The same brand grade line of oil might not be the same formula the company also made years back.

But if u have oil consumption issues. Try different brand.

In Gennys oil consumption issue. I highly doubt it will make much difference.

I didn't mean to derail the topic. I'll finish my thought by saying my favorites are Brad Penn, Joe Gibbs, Redline, Rotell T6. The TAU is a high performance engine like a GM LS motor and should be treated as such.

Redline is a good oil.I was just hoping you weren't going to say assail. It's next to impossible to get around here. And the one time I did find some it was 20$ a litre.

You'll never avoid better oil conversations when the topic is about oil and oil consumption.

OK,
So this is what I got.

They tape up your dipstick, filter, and oil cap, so that they will know nobody messed w/ it.

I'll post after 1000miles and trip to the dealership.

If I get a new engine, the service advisor told me it takes 2-3 days to swap the engine, after receiving it.

The swaps they performed are on the 2012 Equus. Not the other years.
And added out of their line up Equus and Genesis has the least problems,
since he is the service manager he sees every problem that comes in for service, he never seen this until lately,
and told me they didn't need to do it on 2013 or 2014 yet.

Alrighty, now I hope it sucks up more oil then ever before. LOL.

To add. I don't like Mobil 1 either.

Question. They only added 6 quarts above at your oil change. Why not 7? Now you start a quart low?

Looks like no synthetic. And 5-20 for the change. If you are burning oil from those defective German rings used in the Tau, that caused problems also in other brands of cars in 2012, running base oil may help your cause.

i drove mine hard off the line to "help" it burn more for the test, i was leaving smoke screens lol

That works. No abuse, just using it as it is designed. Hope it works for you.

I noticed that too. I just have to do what they tell me for now. It's their test.

I do my own oil changes regularly. So if someone else has done oil change at the dealerships, can they share their slip? Putting all this info here, so other's can also get their gennys fixed.

Maybe they did fill it 7.19 and just priced it as 6 qt. All I know is I can't touch even the dipstick until I bring it in.

How did you know it was German rings? I would have guessed Japanese supplier.
I am just wondering where you saw the information. I couldn't figure out who was suppying their piston rings. No information on it.

Get that. If it is one low already, and it drops two before you get it back, they will have a full oil change in file. May show 3 quarts down in the report. Good case for you.
