Oil level/pressure light going on and off

Just hitting 80k and my oil light lit during a road trip from Vegas, just had an oil change done before the trip as well. Oil is at full and the light goes away when I start driving/ not in park. Will be taking it to the dealership to see what they say, I'm outside of warranty / 2nd owner.

i have a 2015 Genesis the oil light comes on when the car is cold.
This is not covered under warranty so it cost me $1,100 because it was leaking they also had to replace part of the wire harness.

This should be covered

Well, your factory bumper-to-bumper warranty is out on time, if not miles as well.
The 10 year powertrain warranty only applies if you purchased the car new or CPO.

I assume you are talking about an aftermarket warranty. It would be good if you would name it, so that others considering getting that warranty would know.

Same here 2015 mine is in the shop now getting the oil pressure sensor replaced. Eventually the light stopped coming on but started when the weather got colder
May I ask how much was the damage? I'm in Chicagoland and one dealer gave me a rough estimate cost of $1,400...

My code reader is giving me p0116 when the oil light is on. I am having the same issue. When im at a light, oil light comes on but as soon as I drive, light is gone

I have a 2015 Hyundai Genesis, last year was a rough winter but no problems. This year our first day hitting 21 degrees and my oil pressure light came on. Seems to turn off when I accelerate. I am the 2nd owner and it now has 128889 miles on it. Will this light go off when it warms up or will it just stay on indefinitely? How worried should I be?

I have a 2016 genesis and it’s doing the same. Also have a tire sensor (passenger back) that shows low, even after rotating and airing it up.

Ugh, my 2015 3.8 is doing exactly this now too. Just passed 120k. Only comes on at low idle speeds, about 500RPM, and then immediately clicks off when accelerating. Anybody have an idea on the cost for the pressure sensor replacement since it doesn't look super easy?

Does the dip stick show a full oil mark with engine off?

Don88 my oil is full. Checked it several times this week and got an oil change 4 weeks ago.

So I've noticed a pattern. I don't believe the oil sensor is bad. I live in the NE where it's been very cold overnights, but warms up relatively during the day. This past week was the first time I really noticed the oil light coming on and it's been 0°F to <20°F in the mornings. The oil light would only come on when in drive, fully warmed up, and idle (ie: at a stop light). My car typically idles in drive at 500-550 RPM, I noticed it would dip momentarily below 500 and the light would come on. In which case the oil pressure was likely momentarily low, and as soon I accelerated the light would go away. Today, the low temp was only 25 this morning and idle never dipped below 500 and thus no lights today. And I never got the light on my drives home from work since it was also warmer in the evening.

I've also been using the remote start this week since it's cold. Never get the light since the engine is running 750+ RPM while warming up, and when in park my car idles at 550-600 RPM when fully warmed up.

TLDR - when it's below 20°F, my car usually idles in drive at 500-550 RPM, but will sometimes momentarily dip and recover under 500 causing the oil light to come on. As soon as RPM passes 550-600 the light goes away.

So I guess the next question is why is the engine dipping below 500 RPM, but only when very cold?

Hey...See my post above. I'm experiencing the same thing and I'm not convinced it's an oil thing, but maybe a low idle speed that only seems to happen when less than 20°F out? I've never noticed the issue previously, but it goes away as soon as I accelerate too, so you'd have to be looking at the dash to notice it.

I have 2017 Genesis G80 with 80k miles and my oil light started coming on as well at lower RPMs. Took it the the Genesis dealer and they said it needs a new oil pump. $2600 due to the 12 hours of labor…..From reading previous posts, this seems to be a common issue that they should do a recall and pay for this obvious failure.

I don't get why this isn't covered by warranty?

How common is it? You'd need a lot of fails per thousand units and compared to other engines to get some action.

Before spending $2600 I'd put in a real pressure gauge to see what is actually going on. If a tad low at idle but good at higher RPM I'd do nothing. Get the specifications and go from there. I'd hate to spend a bunch of money on a pump to find out the $100 sensor was bad or out of spec.

I had a Ford V8 like that and drove it for four years and about 45,000 miles after it started.

I have a 2015 with 125,000 miles that just started doing g the same thing 2 weeks ago. Mechanic wants to change the sensor ($1350. Said because ofnits placement the labor needed is really high. Not happy.

So, my 2015 Genesis was having the same issue and it was getting worse. Warning light shown at only after 5 min. of driving and light didn't go off even at higher rpm than before. I'm the original owner with under 73k mileage (love the car). Dealer verbally told me that oil pressure sensor is not under powertrain warranty (he said this is an electrical component). I didn't want to spend $1,400 at the dealer. I ended up going to the local shop. I mentioned all this labor they have to go thru. They think that they can still do it in approx 4 hours. Here's the fun begins. They realized that they ordered the wrong part by mistake after taking out all necessary parts. Then, they shaved/weld their tool so they can get the sensor out. (I warned them too) They ordered the right part for $245 (oem). While they're waiting on the part, I've talked to him about the tune-up (replace spark plugs). I believe that is due around 95k miles but since they've already stripped my engine, he would only charge me for the parts ($120). When they finally removed an old sensor, he showed me that some oil got inside the sensor and may have caused an issue. With the snow storm passed thru MW this week, I dropped off my car on Monday and picked up on Thursday. He told me honestly that it took them longer than they have expected but admitted partially on his fault ordering wrong part delaying it further. So he didn't charge me for the all hours they spent. I paid under $900 for the oil pressure sensor and spark plugs + labor. And 1 year warranty for parts and labor. Now that he knows about this, he will probably charge more labor hours for sure. I drove for some time today and no more warning light and seems more stable after the tune-up. I wish this issue becomes a recall later. Seems like many people having the same problem around same mileages/weather condition.

Definitely could be weather/cold related. I live in Phoenix and it was colder in the mornings during the Winter months. Now that its starting to warm up outside I'm seeing less of this problem. Currently at the dealer waiting for a quote. They say that it is pressure sensor and that its been happening on these vehicles. I'd love to see this as a recall, especially after seeing everyone with this model year - 2015 DH - having the SAME PROBLEM.

Dealership came in @ 1700. Knocked 2 hours off of labor + other amounts (no specifics, the service advisor just wanted to help) and it ended at a steady ~$1400.00. I asked him if my car would blow up if I kept driving it like this ( I drive a mix of hard + casual ) and he said no , "not unless you want it to" . I declined and said thanks I'll take my chances and wait for a recall (and if I feel like getting around to it or have to, do it myself since I've already done half the work doing the spark plugs swap). 90 bucks for diagnosis. I love this car and I'll instead drive it into the ground before I spend that amount of money on this.

So I had my car in at my local garage (whom I trust) for some other regular maintenance this week and asked for a quote for a replacement of the oil pressure sensor and spark plugs since they gotta go deep in and they're due for replacement too. All in they quoted me $937 including getting the sensor and new intake manifold gaskets direct from Hyundai. My budget is tight this month since I just pre-paid for some vacation stuff, but I'm planning to get it done next month. They also said the sensor is on backorder and will probably take a week or 2 to get.
