If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Oil level/pressure light going on and off

...I’m NOT saying you should do this, but it worked for me all those years ago.
Be aware that what worked years ago on loose tolerance engines may have disastrous results on newer engines with tighter tolerance and hydraulically controlled valve timing.

I just wanted to follow up with folks following the thread here on my experience.

I went ahead and ordered the part and had my local mechanic switch out the sensor. I cost be $1300 out the door with $400 or so on parts and $900 or so in labor. They replaced a bunch of gaskets as they went through as well.

The problem is completely gone now.

They did say that when they got to the oil pressure sensor, it was covered in oil. This sounds like the likely culprit.

My car ‘18 G80 is at 80K miles now - are there any hypotheses as to the underlying cause? As in, do we think this will happen every 80K miles due to oil accumulation?

Oil shouldn't "accumulate" there. There was oil on yours because it was failing and leaking. The new one won't have any oil on it unless or until it starts to fail too.

(The sensor didn't fail because it had oil on it. It had oil on it because it was failing.)

Thanks, that makes sense! Let's hope the new sensors they are selling have fixed the underlying fault.

2018 G80 Sport, December of '22 light comes on, took it to the dealer and they said it was a bad sensor and replaced it. ($1,600) Fast forward to April of '23, engine jumps time and lost compression, now the engine is toast at 72k miles and I'm looking at a $12k engine replacement. (2nd owner). How do I know if they misdiagnosed the bad sensor and it wasn't a pump?

Hard to tell without removing the sensor and attaching an external pressure gauge to ensure proper pressure. Both of the places I talked to said they'd do just that. Is it actually possible? Depends on where the sensor is located I guess.

In the same boat now... At first, checked oil and there was nothing on the dip stick! It also freaked my out that the end of the dip stick is orange/red. I thought there was something super wrong.. Changed oil filter and oil, it now reads about middle of Low and Full. Was fine for a day or two but popped back on today. Car is at 75K miles. 2018 G80 Sport.

I do have an third-party extended warranty of Carshield but last location I went too for ignition coil replacement, they wanted to add more hours to the job. More than what carshield was approving for so I had to pay more out of pocket...

I have a 2015 Genesis sedan with the 3.8l engine. I bought it new in March of 2015. My oil-pressure low light has been coming on since just beyond the bumper to bumper warranty. Engine operation and performance have been normal for approximately the last 30,000 miles (3.5 years) There was a time when the light did not come on for a few months during that period. I have reported that and the steering wheel locking up in both left and right turns to NHTSA.

Well, your factory bumper-to-bumper warranty is out on time, if not miles as well.
The 10 year powertrain warranty only applies if you purchased the car new or CPO.

I assume you are talking about an aftermarket warranty. It would be good if you would name it, so that others considering getting that warranty would know.

I purchased my Genesis new, and at 72,900 mls oil dipstick tip was broken, the dealer advised new one, and tip could be floating in oil pan, 72,950mls the oil light comes on at idle, had it checked by the dealer and they confirmed it was the sensor, oil pressure was okay no codes could be found when they scanned the computer, also it's not covered under the 100,000/10yr warranty. the only parts covered are internal engine parts, Valves, bearings, etc, and no part that is fitted to the engine. (Dealer advised)
The warranty is worthless,
The dealer quoted me $175 for the part and $600 for fitting, so I'm assuming a 3 or 4-hour job, which i will now undertake myself.
Only last week we were looking at replacing the 6-year-old g80 with a new one, the only reason we didn't bite the bullitt then was we were undecided between the G70 and GV70.
The Dealer is now offering a 200,000/20yr warranty but it's still worthless, you're on your own after the 5yr/60,000, that piece of mind you though you had goes out the window.
So the sales blah of 10yr/100,000mls is worthless.
Once I've fixed this sensor issue i will be going to talk with a different manufacturer..

It could be a lot better, but it is not worthless. There are people on here that saved several thousand on transmission replacement because they had the 10/100 factory warranty.

I think that you have to take the intake off to get to the oil pressure sensor. I would replace the related gaskets rather than reusing them. You are close enough to being due to replace the spark plugs that I would do that too, since you will have done all the work to get to them anyway.

this light has just came on as well on my g80 2018 only at idle then goes off then on it stoped tho when it was warmer I’m in California not as cold and my mom works for Hyundai and seeing that everyone here that’s it’s not under warranty sucks plus appointments are far out smh

This has been happening to me too! I think I made another post about it a while ago. For some time in the warmer season it was OFF. Now it’s back ON, only when I’m in idle or at low RPM. This is crazy. I took it to a mechanic and he said that the engine looks to be in good shape. It was around a year ago and they said the same thing, changed the oil for regular service, and no issues.

My 2019 3.3 sport has done this a few times. Just getting to stoplight on exit ramp happened twice. Again as I park about to shut it off. Not every time but I always check oil level soon after to be sure
Dumb place to put it too. I miss my old v8 Chevy where it’s just on the back of the block.

I have a 2016 Genesis and had the oil lite popping up. I had just replaced the oil and was worried that it was something big.
I have 129,000 on my car I got it used and it has been great. I have read most people had a problem with oil pressure switch under the intake. i was looking at changing my timing chains anyway so I was going to be taking of the intake anyway so I could expose my oil pressure sensor. I had also read that people had problems with the oil screen down at the pump getting gummed up. I just did an oil change on my car about 100 miles ago so I decided to just pull the two under skirts off and drain a quart out of it and run some high millage sea Foam Through it. One Mechanic I talked to said the 3.8 has small oil ports anyway and they sometimes gummed up. I put a can of see foam in will change it again in 400 miles and run another can through the engine. I could already see a difference in the light not coming on after the first 100 miles.
From what I read you have to pull the motor to change the oil pump and that was what i was looking at doing.
but you do not have to pull the engine to change the timing chains and oil sensor. I will just change the water pump and suppertime belt while I’m in there.

Here's another one to add. 2017 G70 - 3.8 V6, same issue popped up at 106K miles. Of course I am out of the warranty. I am taking it in for another recall and will ask about it then. It's much too difficult to even get an appointment these days.

Just hit me yesterday at 83k miles.
We had subzero Temps and I made the bright decision to park in the driveway instead of the garage.
Don't know if that hurt, but it didn't help.
Light goes off when RPMs are above 1k. But on when below or in park.

Joining the club. Been doing it for a few days now after the texas cold snap. 2016 with 77k miles. Had an oil change about a week ago. Light comes on once the car is warmed up and in park or stopped. Goes away when driving. Super annoying.

I'm in Texas also. Mine started acting up about 2-3 weeks after an oil change.

Came across a video on YouTube that describes the issues you're having with the Oil Pressure Sensor light: coming on/off intermittently depending on outside temperature. Seems like a lot of DH/G80 owners in Korea have had the OPS replaced right around the 100K km / 62K miles mark, according to some of the comments posted on this video.

The video is in Korean but take a look.

Have you changed the oil recently, if so did you use an aftermarket oil filter? If yes then I suggest before you spend a lot of money replace the aftermarket filter with and OEM filter. I did this recently and my light went off and has not come on since. OEM filter cost $14. Maybe my light will come on again but I am pretty convinced that I do not have low oil pressure but maybe a sensor issue, but if you were to compare the OEM filter to the aftermarket filter you would swear the OEM filter would never work they look so different, but it does.

I have a 2018 g80 sport and my oil light came on last November. My oil level was fine. Oil light went off when I hit the accelerator or was parked. I dropped it off at my local genesis dealer in December and they determined it to be the oil pressure sensor. My 3rd party extended warranty approved the repair but yesterday the dealer let me know that two injectors were seized so they have to break them out to remove them. It will take another 10 days for the new injectors to arrive.. I asked them to replace the plus while they are in there and they discovered rodent damage on some engine wires which they will be repairing as well. Thankfully they gave me a loaner today since the car has been there for a month and it’s not looking like the car will be ready in the next few weeks.. they initially said I don’t qualify for a loaner since I’m out of manufacturer warranty period but now they want to make sure some transportation since it’s taking so long… this has been quite annoying but their service advisor has been trying to make it as painless as possible.
