Oil level/pressure light going on and off

I have a 2018 g80 sport and my oil light came on last November. My oil level was fine. Oil light went off when I hit the accelerator or was parked. I dropped it off at my local genesis dealer in December and they determined it to be the oil pressure sensor. My 3rd party extended warranty approved the repair but yesterday the dealer let me know that two injectors were seized so they have to break them out to remove them. It will take another 10 days for the new injectors to arrive.. I asked them to replace the plus while they are in there and they discovered rodent damage on some engine wires which they will be repairing as well. Thankfully they gave me a loaner today since the car has been there for a month and it’s not looking like the car will be ready in the next few weeks.. they initially said I don’t qualify for a loaner since I’m out of manufacturer warranty period but now they want to make sure some transportation since it’s taking so long… this has been quite annoying but their service advisor has been trying to make it as painless as possible.
Did they say the injector damage was related at all to the oil pressure sensor?

They didn’t say but I’ll inquire. They said two injectors were seized and would need to broken out. I’ll report back

You have to remove the injectors to get to the oil pressure sensor. They are saying that two of them are stuck and will be damaged when removed, and so must be replaced.

I had my oil changed at the dealership, just to make sure that the OEM Oil Filter might be the resolution. I mentioned it to the service writer and he said "Yes we have tried that before but it doesn't resolve the issue." He was correct. Two miles down the road the light came back on. He quoted me 4.5-5 hour labor and $450 in parts. I am looking at $1,200 - $1,300.00 to fix the issue. It's a known problem!

Take this with a grain of salt but I have a 2019 3.3 sport with 68500 miles. Bought 5months ago with 59000. At about 63000, the oil light came on at stop lights but would go off with a little higher rpm’s. On a whim and not knowing the maintenance from previous owner, about 300 miles to next oil change , I put 2/3 can of Seafoam in the crankcase and put the 300 miles on it. Changed the oil with good synthetic and put the rest of the Seafoam in the crankcase. “Knock on wood”, I have not had the light come on since. I r,ember reading somewhere that these engines will “gunk up” with extended oil change intervals. easy and cheap to at least try.

I have a 2016 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 sedan. This issue started for me on and off this past Monday right at 60,500miles. Making an appointment with the dealership is a pain since they don't get to look at it after weeks of it sitting at their parking lot here where I live. My oil level is good and the oil light so far intermittently comes on when I am at the light just at 500rpm. When I accelerate to say 530 it'll go away.

have this problem come up now, colder temps...all after having a front parking sensor needing to be replaced 3 months ago for $800, then a thermostat for $1000, now this! its like every few months things are failing for a thousand dollars...ridiculous.

Just had mine fixed. Extended warranty covered it minus deductible. Had plugs changed while they had it apart.
According to advisor, wire plug on sender starts to leak oil in and dead shorts so the light comes on. Why it isn’t always on then is my question. But hey it’s fixed now.

2019 Genesis G80 Sport - 80000K - same here light came on right after my last oil change, thought I had a leak, which the shop did find leak at the oil filter housing, had it replaced for 700.00, but that didn't take care of the light, it comes on and flashes depending if I'm stopped or moving. going to have a pressure test done and check oil pump, after reading that the oil pressure sensor failure is common either way this is an expensive repair. has anyone driven with this light flashing as long as the oil pressure & oil level is good? If I keep this car I need to get a warranty any suggestions on which warranty companies that are good

thanks

I've got a 2019 Genesis G70 3.3 Turbo with 64,500 and the light started going on and off this morning. Of course it was also 11 degrees F, so I wasn't sure what the issue is. I checked the oil level and added a quart since it's been over 4,000 since the last oil change and it was hovering close to the low end of the dipstick. I'm planning on taking it in for a recall repair, but wanted to see what y'all thought about the light.

Same here 2015 mine is in the shop now getting the oil pressure sensor replaced. Eventually the light stopped coming on but started when the weather got colder
How much was it to replace?

Hi,

I'm new here as I just recently purchased a 2018 Genesis G80 Sport in March this year. It's been a fantastic car, however just the past couple of weeks as it started getting a bit colder I noticed the oil pressure/level light start turning on and off throughout my drive. It seems like it mostly goes away when it it's warm out, it'll only come on every now and then when I'm at a stop. On colder days it seems to be on most of the time except when I'm accelerating. The car seems to run fine, but could be masked by all of the sound dampening. Is this possible it's just a sensor or have others seen this indicate something much worse? I'm a 2nd owner right under 65,000 miles, so the powertrain warranty that would've carried over just expired. I'm nervous that I could be seeing a big bill if it isn't just a sensor. Anyone else have an experience like this?

I did check the oil when I first saw the light and it was between the F and L marks, which usually indicate it should be fine, but I went ahead and topped it off with about half a quart of oil (last oil change was about 3,000 miles ago). This made the light go away mostly on warmer (70 degrees +) days, but today (around 45-50) it was on most of my drive except when I was actively accelerating.
I had the same problem and ignored it for about 3 years without any issues, as I did not want to pay the ridiculous cost to replace the sensor. I recently upgraded to '22 Acura TLX. Assuming you have a bad sensor like I did, and your oil pump holds up, it will not cause any further damage. Black electrical tape works great for warning lights!

you sold it with the light on?

Had it intermittently on and off starting after an oil change I did before the recent cold front. But now that its warming up it stopped coming on!

I ended up hitting a deer with it, which busted the front grill and headlight assembly. It already had about 150,000 miles on it so the insurance company totaled it out. I'm sure it got sent to the crusher as it wasn't worth fixing. It had a bad solenoid in the transmission which caused a rough shift.

I stuck a deep black felt sticker (small square) in front of the light and now doesnt bug me at all. Passenger cna see it from the side but as the driver no more irritation.

Did any of you change your oil and filter before you had this issue? Aftermarket oil filters are made to fit a number of different vehicles, Hyundai makes their own filters, so they designed the filter to fit the car, compare the 2 and you will see a big difference. The Hyundai filter fits really, really tight so there is no oil blow by, which will lower the oil pressure. For sure there are oil pressure sensor issues, but before you spend hundreds in replacing the sensor, replace the filter with a Hyundai filter and make sure to use the right weight oil. This worked for me I learned this from a Hyundai mechanic at a Hyundai dealer, I have a 2015 3.8 sedan with 147,000 miles on it.

Hyundai does not manufacture oil filters. They buy them from one of the major oil filter manufacturers, and get them to put the Hyundai name on the box. Some aftermarket filters are better than the Hyundai branded ones, and some may be worse. Personally, the Wix ones that I use appear to be better quality.
