  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi y'all! Just bought a new 4.6 sedan for my wife's daily driver -- black/cashmere with the technology package. (I went from almost buying a 2008 S600 in the morning for me... to her deciding on buying a Genesis five hours later for herself. Talk about change of tide!)

I don't see a sticky post for performance upgrades and quick parts number cross-reference for any available products. These types of lists have always proven beneficial for the other cars I own when there's a need or desire to change intake/air filters, plugs, tires, oil filters, exhaust/mufflers, cats.

While there doesn't seem to be a ton of performance or aftermarket parts for the Tau or for the sedan platform, it would be nice to have a good list going as more come about, no?

As I research more and more, it seems like there's a lot of room to increase performance and roadability with little or no investment.

Cheers,
Sam

S600 for the wifey? Must be quite the wifey! :p

I'm throwing a Magnaflow setup on my V8 and i'll be happy.

No -- the S600 was going to be for me, and she'd get my four-year-old daily driver. But yes, she is a great wife.

There's really not much you CAN do to the car. Not only is there much of an aftermarket, but Hyundai made the vehicle very complex/complicated to work on.

I think we've finalized an exhaust system for the car. The next step for our R&D is the X Pipe. Secondary cats and tips are available, and I'm still pushing a company to create a tuner. An intake's on the list too. I'm very picky so it may take me some time for me to feel that we've got the right setup. This is my car too, so I don't want to just throw something on the car.

An engine is an engine...however emission laws are emission laws...so your mileage will vary, so to speak.

If allowed, a good racing engine builder could prep the short block and the heads to much tighter than production tolerances. The camshafts could be replaced. If the ECM supports modifications you could do more with the camshafts. You could also raise the compression ratio forcing premium fuel. It may be possible to replace the exhaust manifolds. They could also be coated to retain heat.

While we are on the subject of coatings...virtually EVERYTHING can be coated. Piston domes, combustion chambers, intake and exhaust ports are coated to minimize heat transfer. Internal surfaces can be smoothed (some blocks are CNC'd on all surfaces) and coated for oil return. Rotating surfaces are coated for reduced friction.

Custom pistons and rings can reduce tension.

Then this is a custom...so who cares about fuel economy. A stroker crank and pistons/rods can increase displacement.

If the ECM is changed so can be the injectors. For a significant increase they will have to be changed anyway. A custom intake manifold can be fabricated.

However, it would be cheaper to just buy one of the new supercharged direct injection Jaguar, BMW, or the large displacement Audi or MB sedans.
