Bear with me on this. My second car was an old Crown Victoria LTD that I bought when I was in college. It was my small town's retired police car and still had the screw holes for the shotgun rack and dome light for writing tickets. I loved the heft of that thing and thus began my love affair with big American sedans. That was followed by a Mercury Grand Marquis,
Lincoln Town Car, and
Cadillac DTS. I always bought them used and with somewhat high mileage because I felt like I was getting a lot of car for the money. I was in my 20s and 30s but in my 80s at heart. After a couple of SUVs that were nice, but uninspiring - the vanilla cone at Baskin Robbins -- I recently started looking for the largest sedan I could find. They don't make many. Crown Vic? Nope. Grand Marquis? Nada.
Buick Roadmaster? Natch. Avalon? That's plainly a mid-size. And a bench seat in the front? Fuh·ged·da·boud·it.
But after sitting in a 2014 Equus Ultimate with 88k miles, I discovered that all hope was not lost and my quest began. I just bought a 2016 Equus Signature with 20k miles in Casablanca white with ivory interior. I'm reborn!
My guess is that if you're one of the four people in America who still WANT to drive a sedan instead of an SUV that you would never take off-road save for the shortcut past the dumpsters behind Trader Joe's, you already go against the grain! You WANT to stand out from the crowd! You don't care that the drivers of those overpriced teutonic behemoths from Dingolfing (BMW) and Stuttgart (Mercedes) look down their noses at your, ahem, South Korean luxury car!! So if you already drive a car that no one recognizes and you want to do so with a chromed, molten Pegasus proudly jutting from the hood, then I say embrace it!! Be bold fellow Equustrians! The same day I bought my car I ordered the Pegasus! Say it with me -- you can never have too much chrome!!!!
